A normie goes "Oh, what's this?"
An otaku goes "UwU, what's this?"
A furry goes "OwO, what's this?"
A werewolf goes "Awoo, what's this?"
"It's nothing personal, I just don't feel like I've gotten to know a person until I've sniffed their crotch." "We said 'no' to Mr. Curiosity. We're not home. Curiosity is not welcome, it is not to be invited in. Curiosity...is bad. It gets you in trouble, it gets you killed, and more importantly...it makes you poor!"
Passion and Serenity are one.
I gain power by understanding both.
In the chaos of their battle, I bring order.
I am a shadow, darkness born from light.
The Force is united within me.

kind of hard for me to trust the motives of any trade channel that mute/kicks me merely for giving things away for free.
I never trust transactions that occurs outside of in-game Auction Houses in general. This is doubly true when there are literally no costs to use it.
You know how you get the best price when buying something? By checking the prices of the item from every supplier in the game - like in the official Auction House.
If someone is trying to sell something directly to me, they're probably scamming me and I could get a better price from another supplier. Otherwise, why would they avoid the official AH?

95% of the things ppl are wanting to sell in a trade channel is pretty suss. if youre 40m ec item is such a great deal, why hawk it in a trade channel rather than insta-selling it on the exchange?
the other 5%... ok maybe things that you cant list on the exchange, like consigned boffs and... well maybe there is something else?
oh i remember what that something else is, its off-game rl$ transfers via paypal. dont believe me? ask me for the evidence. tell me that isnt a scam waiting to happen!
heres an example of the types of things ppl do on the exchange:
so this guy checks his doff roster looking for a doff that isnt listed on the exchange. he finds such doff; a worthless green ferengie called Hi'kd.
he lists this doff on the exchange for 80m ec.
he then goes to the trade channel and starts 'looking for' this doff. 'wtb a green ferengie Hi'kd for 120m! plz msg me'
the scam: he hopes somebody will see that doff on the exchange and buy it for 80m in the hopes of turning a profit.
those are the kinds of things that happen on those trading channels.
they arent places to score a deal, they are places to get scammed. they are places that mute/kick people for upsetting the scam by giving things away that the channel owners would rather charge for.
I've used TTC almost every day across four alts. I've never once been scammed, scammed someone, or seen someone scam someone else. I use it because I get better deals there. 90% of the stuff on the exchange is simply overpriced, and isn't selling at whatever price its listed at. In TTC, there are established, respected traders who offer fair (read under exchange price) on items.
Besides that, there are plenty of things that can't be sold on the exchange. First and foremost are high end items-anything priced higher than 500m, like the JHAS, can't be sold on the exchange. In that case, the ONLY place to get it is TTC, or other trading channels.
Things that can't be sold on the Exchange (due to the price ceiling) being taken off Exchange makes sense.
Things being cheaper off the Exchange make absolutely zero sense. I'd call the suppliers stupid, but irrational is probably more accurate. If something is listed on the Exchange and doesn't sell at 3 mil, but sells off the Exchange for 1 mil, they are likely to get 2 mil if they listed it on the Exchange since there are more buyers there.
Further, simply because an item is under the Exchange price does not mean it is at a "fair" price by any means. If the suppliers are withholding supply, you're paying an inflated price due to artificial scarcity.
