Ironsides not a space trait? Wat?

baelogventurebaelogventure Member Posts: 1,002 Arc User
Seriously, it's not a space trait?

Are you daft?

Ironsides is the nickname of the Revolutionary War frigate U.S.S. Constitution, the namesake of the class of the original Enterprise, and you make the trait a ground one.

I am all the disappoint.

Ironsides was also a TV show about a detective in a wheelchair.

It's also the name of one english and one swedish king, as well as a unit of cavalry in the English Civil War.

    So, no.

There was also a viking guy nicknamed ironside, so i think it works for both ships and people

The U.S.S. Constitution was launched in 1797 she earned the nickname "Old Ironsides" during the War of 1812 when she fought the British frigate HMS Guerriere. - See more at: http://www.thefreedomtrail.org/freedom-trail/uss-constitution.shtml#sthash.LMJ5DOz0.dpuf

    The show is called Ironside.

well, it seem like "Ironsides" has been a nickname for people long before it was a nickname for ships so... being a ground trait seems fair enough

I thought I had seen a complaint about everything in the game already.

Until I clicked on this thread.

It's clear that one or more staffers working on STO are remarkably young and uninformed when it comes to choosing names for things.

Case in point: Aegis. Modern reference is a class of navy vessel with superior command and control capability aka AEGIS class; classical reference 'shield'. STO gives it to the name of a Dr. who designed a space set. *facepalm*

Case in point #2: Ironsides. Classical modern reference is a ship. STO makes it ground.

I think you're mistaken. Dr. Who designed the Battlestar Galactica in Fringe.

you dop realize the old "shield" meaning fits perfectly well with the aegis set right?

When it was first introduced, it was hands down the best shield in game.

Ships travel on the sea, which unless you're in Undine Space, is generally found planetside.

THIS is why I love your posts. Oddly enough as I typed it I though - someone is going to make a Dr. Who reference.

With regard to Aegis, some of you seem to miss the reference to Greek/Roman Mythology. Aegis is the name of Athena and/or Zeus' shield. And there's an Aegis shield in game.

As for Ironsides.... Well, as someone who lives not to far from Ol' Ironsides (which is still a commissioned vessel in the US Navy), I kind of wish it were space.

I'd have thought ironclad would've been a more apt term for a ship based space trait.

When I checked the DOFF yesterday, the text has changed. He was working for Project Aegis, not Professor Aegis. It may have been a brain TRIBBLE or a auto-correct issue. ;)
