Ironsides is the nickname of the Revolutionary War frigate U.S.S. Constitution, the namesake of the class of the original Enterprise, and you make the trait a ground one.

It's clear that one or more staffers working on STO are remarkably young and uninformed when it comes to choosing names for things.
Case in point: Aegis. Modern reference is a class of navy vessel with superior command and control capability aka AEGIS class; classical reference 'shield'. STO gives it to the name of a Dr. who designed a space set. *facepalm*
Case in point #2: Ironsides. Classical modern reference is a ship. STO makes it ground.

you dop realize the old "shield" meaning fits perfectly well with the aegis set right?
When it was first introduced, it was hands down the best shield in game.
With regard to Aegis, some of you seem to miss the reference to Greek/Roman Mythology. Aegis is the name of Athena and/or Zeus' shield. And there's an Aegis shield in game.
As for Ironsides.... Well, as someone who lives not to far from Ol' Ironsides (which is still a commissioned vessel in the US Navy), I kind of wish it were space.

I was talking about the doff who worked for Dr. Aegis. Who ironically made shields.
When I checked the DOFF yesterday, the text has changed. He was working for Project Aegis, not Professor Aegis. It may have been a brain TRIBBLE or a auto-correct issue.

Old Ironsides was also the nickname of Oliver Cromwell, one of the most famous men in British history, executor of kings and Lord Protector of the Commonwealth of England, Scotland and Ireland.

It's an American thing. You know. They don't that sort of thing in American schools.

Ah, our experiment at being a Republic. We managed 2 Lord Protectors before having to send off for a new King .
Norway and Yeager dammit... I still want my Typhoon and Jupiter though. JJ Trek The Kelvin Timeline is just Trek and it's fully canon... get over it. But I still prefer TAR.

So, no.
There was also a viking guy nicknamed ironside, so i think it works for both ships and people

The show is called Ironside.
There is Michael Ironside

Until I clicked on this thread.
I remember a guy complaining because he had a doff named "Gaylord", wich of course is a real life name

Since we're compiling a list...

I think you're mistaken. Dr. Who designed the Battlestar Galactica in Fringe.

Ships travel on the sea, which unless you're in Undine Space, is generally found planetside.
THIS is why I love your posts. Oddly enough as I typed it I though - someone is going to make a Dr. Who reference.

Oh yeah I forgot that American history is the only true history in the world
I think you're mistaken. Doctor Who is that one. Dr. Who is nobody.
