No offense to Bort meant, but I couldn't believe he voiced Kurland. The VO sounds like a woman trying to sound like a man to me. I turn off the audio if I run any of the missions with Kurland. I'd much prefer Cryptic stick with semi-pro/pro VO actors.
i dont see the issue, chris metzen did some music for sc2 as lead singer for level 80 band. who is to say that devs or some paper worker in the back office cant do some vo work, as long as they have the voice for it and a little practice first reading from the scripts.
T6 Miranda Hero Ship FTW. Been around since Dec 2010 on STO and bought LTS in Apr 2013 for STO.
AHH!!! Askray and the others are actually moderating! *runs out onto the promenade of DS9, naked and screaming*
Anywho, I think it's a good idea. Anyone who believed that this should've been a perfect system or anything though is being unrealistic, on either side of that. Whether you think it is good or bad for the forums, to expect 'perfection' is just silly, no matter what they would've done, there is nothing that would not have some kind of issue.
I'm not going to blindly believe this will change the forums overnight or anything to be a wonderful, magical place of lollipops and rainbows, but I also don't picture this place instantly becoming as if we were all under the eyes of the Obsidian Order or something.
I remain empathetic to the concerns of my community, but do me a favor and lay off the god damn name calling and petty remarks. It will get you nowhere.
I must admit, respect points to Trendy for laying down the law like that.

Newbie comes onto the forums makes a thread that's on the FCT
We expect this to happen. I actually expect old timers to make them as well (not ones that posted in this thread mind you..) and we are going to be understanding about it.
I was not really afraid that you would start swinging with the ban hammer. But I am now rather curious as to how you are planning to explain that their subject is not allowed to discuss any further?
And I've been thinking while working. With this FCT list possible for expansion (half-confirmed from what I've understood), how will you exactly decide what gets on the list? Will it be the mods discussing? Will there be a poll in an appropiate area to ask the forum community if they are okay with getting rid of a certain topic? Will we get a single official thread that will be strictly moderated? Something like how all Galaxy change threads were morphed into the single Beef thread?
(Note that I am not trying to tell you how to do your jobs as forum moderations, but merely trying to get insight in how the system will work to ease my feelings towards it. If this is interpreted as discussion of moderation in the breaking the rules kind of way, feel free to edit the post, but understand that this is not what I was intending to achieve.)

There are a few ways new topics will get added. One is by Dev request. One is by player request and the other is by mod/cm request. All gets discussed by the current mod team before its added. The single thread that happened with the galaxy was due to certain situations. That probably won't occur again but never say never. But ultimately nothing will just be added by one of us without a discussion first.
Hope that answers your question.

Dear Askray, de facto Supreme Overlord of all Forums.
THANK YOU.
Thank you SO MUCH for creating a list of dead horse threads. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU.
No more shall "Kill Tovan Khev" or "I want a t5 connie!" or "I HATE DISCO BALLS GRAWR!!!" threads curse these hallowed grounds! No more shall my blood pressure spike as I marvel at the idiocy of humanity (at least this little sliver of humanity). No more shall countless repetitive threads clog the forums in place of actually helpful stuff!
I salute you, Askray. Pop by the Hail Ba'al thread some time and I'll throw you a metric ton of ludicrous shinies in the joke.
Best wishes,
Your most sincere fan,
Worffan101
The last time I checked the forum rules, troll threads were a violation.
But since a forum moderator is participating, I don't expect anything to be done about it.

And you really don't see an issue with this?
I'm going to give you some free advice as someone who used to moderate a gaming forum far bigger than this many years ago. Don't use emotion when you moderate, that is not going to end well EVER.
And just being tired of a topic that does not violate any of the codified rules for the forums is the very definition of using emotion to moderate. yes, I'm well aware you just think I'm a malcontent and will actively ignore this advice.
If he's presented the same way Kurland was, I'd have no problem with him. Hell, he has a pretty good voice and personality IMO. He just got caught on my bad side for being a mandatory BOFF.
That, on every count. Not a very Romulan personality mind, but he does have one. I like Elisa and K'Gan. I like Tovan, despite his flaws.
The problem for me is, in STO, everything I care about enough to change is available for player choice to pick and choose, you have your ship, your character, your Boffs, your Doffs... Everything. No game matches STO in this. Not any I know.
And then, Tovan. And then just that one constraint, just one, and the whole house comes crashing down from soaring beyond the stars, to breaking and scattering like water upon rock, the rock of that one constraint. And for me, it ruins the Romulan faction that everyone has him.
Shoot them at the borg, might turn them into nothing but intergalactic garbage that will only bicker and be beauty queens. No more invasions!

Nope I don't see an issue with this. And I accept any free advice from anyone that's been doing moderation/administration almost as/as long as I have But people also need to be aware, this isn't my first run at being a moderator on an MMO/gaming forum. I've done it for years, including back when BBS' were big :P So I know emotion should not get in the way of moderating. We aren't putting threads on there that we are just "sick and tired" of dealing with. The moderator added ones are threads that 9 times outta 10 lead to dozens of warnings, bans, edited posts and ultimately locks. This isn't just us saying we don't want to hear the conversation about it anymore. It's more of we know where this will go, we're nipping it in the butt before it begins. It saves people from bans, warnings, etc. As for the dev responses honestly there just isn't much conversation left to be had. The dev's have said what they have said on the subject and that be all. No amount of conversation will change that opinion.
Like I said however, IF they do change then yes threads can be easily removed from the FCT.

First of all, you answered my previous question. Thanks for the information.
Now comes the next, that is about the above quote.
Lets take the disco argument as an example.
Right now that is the home of flaming, trolling, name calling and ultimately leads to a lot of moderation work. It was put in the FCT since, well, it never ended well.
To remove the disco ball argument from the FCT, we need to change the way that thread ends up. Say, we create a very reasonable discussion, in which everybody calmly states their arguments, debates, no rule breaking, nothing. That should get it removed from the FCT, right?
Now my question: how can we proove that a thread deserves to be removed from the FCT, if we cannot create/discuss said subject? Is this a paradox? Or does this almost immediately force us to have one single thread about the FCT subjects?
Ow, and one more completely off the topic of the rest of my questions.....
(Imagine the Kurkland here voice)
Kurkland? Who the Gre'thor is Kurkland? Are you by any chance mistyping the name of this good fellow?
(sorry for giving you such a hard time answering my questions, just really want to understand this system to the bottom)
The MMO debuts and a group of people with way to much time on their hands take possession of the game (in their minds)
They scream about every little thing they think is wrong with the game until the moderation staff begins to side with them due to sheer post count and begins to censor all opposing opinions, basically doing their work for them.
People who don't like the censorship leave.
Eventually the game ends up perfect for the remaining people and they bask in it's perfection for a short time until the servers go dark due to lack of interest by everyone else.
Then these people get together on some other forum to lament the puzzling death of the game and make plans to join the next MMO and make it perfect.

The life of a typical MMO goes as follows:
The MMO debuts and a group of people with way to much time on their hands take possession of the game (in their minds)
