I hate the high level design of the entire crafting revamp, so I don't know how value added it would be to critique the nuts and bolts. And now there's grinding/gambling for DOFFs in addition to throwing away dilithium to get random vendor trash for possible low quality/poor mod equipment.
At least the official uniform updates are moving ahead.
When scanning the new anomalies, everything goes good until I get the pop up box that says take and cancel. I hit F, and it says inventory full (none of my inventory is full). But I use my mouse to hit the take button and it works fine. I tested both ground and space, multiple types of anomalies. Hit F, said inventory full, clicked take, worked fine. This was all of the mission Stranded in space on a transferred level 50 character. Let me know if you need more info.
Second, more of an art issue. Okay I can see the stuff in space being floating rocks or swirling things, but having floating rocks as the icon for an anomaly on a ground map is kinda pushing it, even for STO.
Third, it looks like once you start a project, when you look on the status screen, you can see the outcome. But you still have to wait for the timer to finish. Is this intended, because if it is, it seems a little well, insulting, to have to wait an hour or more knowing that you didn't get what you wanted, or that you did get what you wanted. DOFF missions don't currently tell us the results until its over, why is this different?
Fourth, would it be possible for you to speed up project timers and give us test boxes of crafting materials and special doffs, etc, so that we can properly test all of the stuff you have? Maybe during the last two weeks before release, so that we can look through and find any high level bugs in the later levels of crafting?
Whut? So the only way to get these special doffs, that are required to craft certain projects, is either to:
(a) spend Zen on C-Store packs and pray the RNG gives you the doff you need, or
(b) spend dilitium and pray the RNG gives you a crit and further pray that that crit provides you with the doff you need, or
(c) let someone else go through the above and purchase it off the exchange for what will likely end up being millions of EC?
Peachy. Just peachy.
Cryptic this right here is why a number of your player base is convinced that you don't want us to have nice things. /picardfacepalm
Basically!
I think maybe Cryptic is losing money because of not a lot of c-store ships and other purchases, other then lockboxes are being made. Since, Cryptic has not been making content from the over-powered ships that they are giving out freely people have little or no reason to spend a dime. Mind you I'm going have my third c-store ship without spending a dime possibly fourth. Since they are taking the Star Trek out of Star Trek Online, I don't feel any more inspired to help support or fund the backwards thinking.
I feel they will add more money making revamps in the future removing content for gated new monetization content.
Because if it's consumed, it's not a catalyst. You could call it accelerant or reagent or something, but the point of catalysts is that they affect a reaction without being consumed.
I know, Startrek Science is mostly science magic, but we can still try to be better than Brannon Braga* in our science, can't we?
I figure you don't want to turn catalysts into non-consumable things (though maybe that would be cool, too), so changing the name seems the better option.
*) he brought us the idea that accelerated evolution in a shuttle at transwarp would cause humans to turn into some kind of amphibious/reptilian creatures. As if individuals, instead of species, evolved, and being such a creature inside a shuttle had advantages... He's also responsible for that TNG episode where some prion stuff turns Worf in a kind of Targ and Geordi in a Spider...
Star Trek Online Advancement: You start with lowbie gear, you end with Lobi gear.
I still don’t like the way when someone asks for a weapon in fleet it can take over 100 attempts to craft 4 of those items even at level 20. It’s far too much like gambling and the time it takes is far too long.
Crafting should be part of a community. Most games have a guild with crafters who respond and build what is asked for. This system doesn’t work like that. A player asks for a weapon and gets randomness often junk.
For example like many players I already have a large selection of front MK XII weapons. When I go to a crafter asking for new weapons I don’t want him to build me a random MK XII weapon that will more often than not be any use to me due to randomness.
The randomness destroys part of the community and working together often found in crafting.
Meh, I just crashed for the fourth time...running the check on the even numbers. Anybody else getting a mix of hourglass or CTDs while in the DOFFing windows?
YES Doff UI 3 out of 4 attempts CTD. I d like to look at the system morebe will have to wait until this is fixed.
School Specialist Duty Officers are now available through various means in-game.
These officers are required in order to craft some of the highest-skill items in each R&D School.
These officers have been added to all C-Store Duty Officer Cadre Packs.
Also applies to existing ones already purchased.
They can also be obtained rarely as a reward for running the "Request R&D Assistance" Duty Officer Assignment, newly available at your Academy or Starbase Recruiter.
This assignment rewards Materials and Components in addition to a small chance at School Specialists and Catalysts.
So here we have a nice bottleneck. In order to make any end-game gear you need "Specialist" DOffs. OK. But... "various means of obtaining" right now seems to mean nothing but Lock-box-like mass-opening of C-Store-DOff-Packs (until you have the one of the school you need, just 1 out of 7) OR running who knows how many R&D assistance assignments until you get the specialist you require (could take months?), OR buyng it for astronomic amounts of ECs on the exchange. Good job Cryptic
Will there be any way of controlling WHICH specialist (which school) we might get from the assistance assignment??? What the CD on the assignment? What kinda drop chance for any given specialist are we talking about?
This sounds a lot like a (not really) hidden "Buy DOff packs!" order if you want to craft hi-end items within your life-time.
So none of the major issues players have with the system have been addressed yet. I do hopes some of them will be as this looks just like a list of bug fixes, which is good, but there are some major issues with the system yet.
Yes were fixes but I still getting full inventory when I got more open in than I have in long time. But Issuse is that they locking space in story after they get to r&d this also includes bring old samples and traces from holodeck. does need fixing soon although I good to clean out but getting to bones with som Items only used few weeks.
This is absolutely a pathetic search for a money stream, which is why they tied it to the Doffs random roll system instead of a crew skill progression. indeed recipes are not learned their consumed and lost again as if you never knew how to make it to begin with A true crafting system that would be now unlocked and able to be created with teh resources as many times as one would wish, but not in STO. Face it Cryptic really F'ed up as subscriptions are way down, and zen purchases became unnecessary very quickly by the needless useless and unpopular nerf to traits. They know it and refuse to address their error. The 4,4,4 philosophy has cost them virtually all their gains from the Romulan expansion, and their back down to just having free to play players as a majority. the very ones that were ******** about reputation grind to begin with. Well congratulations, you catered to the players that were hardly spending a dime to advance their characters instead of to those that had lifetime memberships or continued to subscribe through the years despite little reason to do so as to support a game we loved. Now whats the point really? We are as advanced as we are EVER going to be on our ships now and will never again see a significant advancement again unless you at the very least go back to the 8,8,4 philosophy AT THE VERY LEAST! So as those that EARNED their benefits may retain the rewards they deserve for the copious amounts of time and resources and ZEN spent on attaining them. But beyond that you also lost the DAILY incentives for all of us to play regularly, instead we have to wait MONTHS for 2 events to pop up to make it worth our time and effort to even be bothered to play at all. So there you have it in a nutshell they are DESPERATE to find some way to get the players that are left to spend large amounts of money when there is little point to doing so. I mean I cant find any motivation at all to even be bothered with the new stuff cause I cant use anything from it anyway. so whats the point? and without the daily events I personally have no reason to even log in to check a calendar to see when to play. I just wait a month or 3 for a Marks event or a Dil event and only play then. short of those zero incentive to play. ZERO!
Is it possible to start a project x-times in one go? E.g. you start a mission, but specify to run it x-times, so you dont have to start the same mission x-times over and over again?
They can also be obtained very very very rarely as a reward for running the "Request R&D Assistance" Duty Officer Assignment, newly available at your Academy or Starbase Recruiter.
This assignment rewards Materials and Components in addition to a very miniscule chance at School Specialists and Catalysts.
It recently occurred to me that Defera in the current crafting system is a nice break from regular crafting, yet is a reliable if (time-consuming*) method of leveling that crafting system. That made me curious for two reasons:
1) Defera Crafting grants progress in your General Research Skill; might it instead advance the new crafting system depending on what you make?
2) Defera Crafting progress is based on your General Research Skill; is it still going to advance that skill?
My results from testing on two separate characters is that:
1) Nope, it will not grant any progress in the new Crafting Schools.
2) Yes, it will grant progress in your General Research Skill (if it is not already at the current cap of 1650).
While it would be nice to use the old General Research Skill as a baseline for creating consumables and special items like the Horta, it is too bad that it cannot be used to progress the Engineering (by making the Ground Armor), Ground Weapons (by making the Ground Weapons), and Shields (by making the Ground Shields) Crafting Schools via Defera Crafting. Just a small tweak, but that would be a nice addition to feedback I have provided elsewhere. Plus, Defera Crafting still uses the Progress bar, which I vastly prefer over the timers... please don't "fix" that; it's so much nicer to just make my item, have it show up in my inventory a few seconds later, and go back to shooting things that beg to be shot at. I love Defera Crafting
*"time-consuming" refers to the process of gathering Bound materials, in comparison to buying materials and/or aggregating them from alts, in the current Holodeck crafting system; still, it's probably better than the new Tribble system as far as time thanks to the 5 sec Progress Bar vs X hrs Bribe/Timer.
With each passing day I wonder if I stepped into an alternate reality. The Cubs win the world series. Donald Trump is President. Britain leaves the EU. STO gets a dedicated PvP season. Engineers are "out of control" in STO.
So none of the major issues players have with the system have been addressed yet. I do hopes some of them will be as this looks just like a list of bug fixes, which is good, but there are some major issues with the system yet.
Of course not, because those Cryptic doesn't consider them issues, they are intended features.
Face it Cryptic really F'ed up as subscriptions are way down, and zen purchases became unnecessary very quickly by the needless useless and unpopular nerf to traits.
Er where are you getting these stats that say Cryptic Studios/Perfect World Entertainment are losing money hand over fist?
You are seemingly lacking any sort of proof to back that claim up, before making such a claim you should maybe provide evidence to back it up.
Actually, the TR-116 rifle you get from crafting is the TR-116B variant - the A-variant is only obtainable from a pre-order of a physical copy of the game.

Doff revamp #2 probably will come Season 10.5
There are plenty of players supporting this.

I'm sorry to people who I, in the past, insulted, annoyed, etc.
I don't care much on the stats as long a I'm pumping slugs into baddies
I haven't found any in any of the boxes I opened and I opened a few types (which ones escape me, though I think they might have been the mini-packs)
