Outpost 2

Some more ideas for out post from my last post 3 months ago;

http://sto-forum.perfectworld.com/showthread.php?t=1057411&highlight=Outposts

Outpost plots can be found in deep space, as a DOff mission, and will cost X amount of EC and Dilithium to start. Each time you login, and just cruising around between missions, there will be a %10, %25, or more percent that your Outpost is under attack. Outposts should be less than Fleet Starbases, but more than Starships. It should be Tier based like Starbases, but able to equip weapons, shields, deflectors, and consoles like a Starship.
Things to include would be Starship Repair, taking your ship out of commission until the repairs are complete (1 hour/injury, up to 20 hours) costing ship repairs and dilithium, customizable interiors (adding rooms and corridors to the standard layout), costing Data samples and dilithium, and upgrading ONE ship to "outpost" ship (Tier3 or 4 refit), costing one ship (Tier 3, and lower), data samples, ship repairs, replicator items (shield generators, selfsealing stembolts, ect.), DOffs, and dilithium,to use with your newly promoted Captain BOff.
Rear Admirals, and higher, will be able to promote ONE BOff to Captain, and send them out on missions (that will be available with each Tier completed) in a rank appropriate ship.

A few Outpost ideas;

    I rather like the idea of this, but I would want some sort of visual to show off my accomplishments, maybe some of my ships flying around or something

    That would fall into the customizable interiors. You want to display your small crafts and shuttles, build a shuttle bay. You want to display your ships around the Outpost, build some dry docks. You want your ships flying around your Outpost, build a control tower (but there should be a limit on how many ships are in that parade, 5 maybe?).

    *Customizable interior would be a general term, seeing how dry docks are on the exterior.

    Concept is good, Could function much like other games have player housing perhaps, since our captains don't tend to need all that much by way of housing with the quarters being provided and all, this in my mind is a welcome alternative

    I'd use this functionality if it was introduced into the game

    And, like I said in my original thread, Outposts could be accessed by smart phone app to do DOff missions.

    Damn, I thought it was a topic about a reboot of the excellent Outpost 2 videogame. Or the STO ingame easter egg to this game.

    Anyway, I'm all for a player base/housing/colony we can customize the way we want, and make it our own. Especially if we can develop it toward something unique nobody else have, like EQ2 housing and stuff like that.
    However, having to wait an hour or more to repair my ship, no thanks. What would be the point ? It's just a fun killer.
    Also, having the outpost under attack and being "forced" to move in and help it, is a bad idea in a MMO. In a solo game, if you don't want to do that, you can just save, take a break, and come back later. In a MMO, you do it or fail. If you don't want to do it, you are pretty much forced to do it, or you loose something.
    I'd prefer some kind of mission with a 20h/24h CD. You can take it, and save your outpost from the bad guys that conveniently waited to show up until you click on the dedicated button. That way, if you are busy, afk, or simply not in the mood, you can always skip it. Otherwise, you can do it. It's up to you.

    The repair was brought up in another thread, by someone else, I just thought it could be something to roleplay. Maybe minutes instead of hours?
    The attacks on the Outpost would be like the Borg sector attacks, you can do them or not, just some more roleplay.
    I do like the defense mission though.

    I like the overall idea. Something like player housing you build up yourself without having to rely on a fleet and it would make snese lore-wise as well. Being commodores/generals I can imagine our character's being tasked with building an outpost and making on of our boffs be the supervisor.

    It can also be a dilithium sink I keep reading about in the forums.
    If it is done the way I am thinking (which doesn't mean it is right) after the Outpost is "completed" more interiors am still be added, in anyway.
    Interior missions would be in the "standard" layout, while space attacks would "damage" the added interior, and would need to rebuild.

    Sisco was incharge of a starbase during the dominion war, when they lost ds9, and sent Dax out on missions in the defiant. It does seem "canon" to me.

    But it just came to me, something like this is essential what most of the players *expected* to be our own ship interiors. But given the fact that Cryptic utterly and completely abandoned that branch of the game... what are the odds?

    I maybe wrong, but if I understand some of the technical posts, the ship interiors are already programed into the game, it would take a to change them for every ship in the galaxy. The Outpost interior would be a new program (?) added to the game, so it should be easier to implement.

    I am by far NOT a computer programer or engineer, so I am basicaly talking out my butt, but it makes sense to me. Maybe?
