Or it wouldn't actually dock inside the ship. Rather the mothership serves as a command ship, supply depot, and assists with repairs, like a mobile starbase as part of a squadron, with the small ships transiting under their own power alongside. BoPs and Fer'jai don't look like they'd actually fit inside their respective carriers, so why would a hypothetical Centaur have to worry about it?
Mirandas are cruisers, they are starships in their own right. They wouldn't dock anywhere and be "carried". Just like the BoPs who aren't carried either they would be called in by their command vessel like reginamala78 said. Everything else doesn't make sense.

... and you're worried how a Starfleet designed ship can be used by Starfleet?
Is Cryptic going to add a Miranda pet? Aquarius or Defiant would have made more sense.
The Aquarius is perfect for this issue, it's pretty small even compared to a Defiant.
Edit: The Aquarius is also one of the few Starfleet designs (and definitely the only Frigate/Escort design) that was actually designed to operate from a hangar- /docking bay.
To the Mirandas, why would you launch those from a hangar? They were already outdated before the Dominion war (in which they were only used as cannon fodder). And they are way too big. And you don't want to build a hangar for a ship that's underperforming for the current standards anyways.
Ditto on the Miranda et al being too big to be frigate pets. If the feds get a full fledged non-kitty carrier with frigates and has low-mid-high options I think it should be some combo of the Aquarius, Saber and/or Defiant -- though I don't think the Defiant should be a pet.

So don't carry the miranda. Have it show a warp in animation when deployed.
This. Actually, all carriers should work like this when not using shuttles. And shuttles shouldn't last ten seconds against a starship. So, the most sensible solution would be to change all carriers into command ships with an deploy-able escort of frigates/raiders and change al shuttles into gimmick abilities. It would make much more sense.

Miranda pets would fly next to you in formation and attract aggro, blowing up impressively next to you so you can look awesome. Didn't you see how this worked on the show?
The Saber is pretty tiny, almost Defiant sized. A fair bit smaller than the Miranda variants. But I say no to the idea of a Defiant pet because it was a hero ship and it doesn't feel fitting to have it popped out of a carrier to be eaten alive.

The USS Defiant was a hero ship and she got destroyed as well. The Defiant class was a concept for an "expendable" escort ship, similiar to a B'Rel BoP. Originally designed to fight Borg (the only reason for the pulse phasers ("cannons" in STO) was a fast rotating frequewncy to avoid adaptation) but mothballed and later reactivated to act as an interceptor/defensive platform for space stations the class is really not what a lot of fans make of her.
I think her unique purpose is indeed to be able to be docked at stations and serve as a mobile defense. As a starship, the Defiant as a frigate is outperformed by the Sabre or Norway classes, possibly even by the Miranda successor Steamrunner.
But I don't think the Defiant would make a good "hangar pet" ( ) - if any, Cryptic's Aquarius would be the best for the job. I would prefer to not see a full Starfleet carrier. Instead, the ship should feature one or two separatable Aquarius class pets.

Just make a model Miranda for ground combat. It can buzz around your head like a drone.
Why not? There's the bug pet.
The Miranda is about 200-250m in length, and the bug is smaller than a defiant (~150m), so i wouildn't compare a Miranda to a bug
I was replying to his comment about the defiant. That's what quote is for.

Problem is you quoted the Miranda part of the post as well...
Anyways, nvm then

Exactly. Pets don't have to be the same as player ship. To say Defiant is too strong to be a pet is like saying Bug ship has lower stats than Defiant.
