Risa - so I rented a flater, now what?

I've been reading the NPCs to find out info and the Event Coordinator says I can buy or rent a floater, fine, I did that, then he (or someone) will give me a choice of 3 courses, but he doesn't, the prompts remain the same.

Yet the mission timer is ticking - am I supposed to be looking on my map?

Missing something really obvious that I will be embarased by no doubt...used to it

Ah, for Flying High? Once you pick up the mission, you have to turn off your floater and then turn it on again to clear that message. It should then start the timer and give you the courses marked out on your map. You can also just turn off your floater before you pick up the mission and then just turn it on once you have it.

I also recommend doing the Hunt once and get 50 favors to buy a standard floater. The rental one will disappear on you after around 15 minutes. So if you're in the middle of a course and you hit that time limit...you're going down lol. The standard floaters (and above) are all permanent. They will never vanish on you.

Edit: Misread. Yeah you have to look at your map. They don't appear in front of you. They spawn all over the resort. You have to fly to them and complete them while the timer is running.

I agree use it on relic hunt. You can do it quick and they are marked on your map. Once done, head over a buy the standard. Then you can explore the entire island. Find "views" for accolades, Or use it on other events.

It became much clearer when I restarted the event and restarted a new floater. Before that, there were no map markings and no meaningful mission text - now I know what to do.

The only thing is the rental is speed+35 whereas the standard is only +30, but if the rental goes byebye in 15 I'll swing for the standard, got 50 from sand castles...

It was just some confusion about starting the mission in the right order.

    Thanks!

Oh yeah. Grab some Risian food for 5 marks and feed it to a tribble. The Risian Tribble you get from that gives you +jetpack speed and handling. That should make up for the speed on the standard floater.

Is this for real??, for god sake, what a cheap rental system.. :P, i thought the floater will vanish when you are on ground, or you complete the mission... i guess its another cheap method cryptic coudnt resist to implement lol.

Don't bother with anything more then the standard floater. You should have plenty of time to complete the courses without the speed and maneuverability boosts of the superior ones. It's not like the powerboard race where you kinda do need a better board in order to compete.

That being said, I've heard that the better floaters are helpful for the hunt if you have to run multiple characters through it, because they're fast enough to allow you to complete it multiple times.

Oh go on, it's why you can't die on Risa- for the amusement of surviving a max-altitude fall when your rented floater goes away. :D

yeah, my first ever rental cut out on me in the middle of a run.... i just used site-to-site transportation back to the boardwalk, picked up a new flaoter, and finished the course with 3 mins to spare.

and when i said first time, i skipped last years summer event.

    Actually...

In all (I think - I know for sure in CO and STO) Cryptic titles you can't die from fall damage IF you're at full health to begin with.

No matter the distance you fall, you'll always take your MaxHP-1 in damage. It's by design.

Still, a single completed Dance competition will earn you enough 'Favors' to buy the Basic Floater, so its not as if you're lacking no-cost alternatives...

For me the rental is good enough. Yes, it's 1,000 ECs every time you rent it but more most players who have leveled up a character to Captain (and equivalent) or higher that is basically loose change.

In the 14 time limit to search for those Risan idols around the island I can complete the mission event on two toons. Since a standard floater is slower than the rental I think using the standard floater would prevent me from completing the event on my 2nd toon since I am cutting it close to the time limit.

I believe when the event starts (at 22 minutes after each hour) the timer shows 15 minutes, however, the mission always ends when there is 1 minute left on the clock.

nah, while standard floater are slightly slower than rentals they have much better handling. Handling is very important when flying around trees. :P
