Just reached Lev 50 and outfitting my shiny new Temporal Destroyer ship and looking for some good but budget items for it (or someone point me towards some easy missions that provide them for free) ;)

I'm looking for...

Shield
Warp Engine
Impulse
Deflector

All advice appreciated

Step Between the Stars for Shield, Impulse, and Deflector. Nice defensive general use set.

Warp Engine? A lot more limited. It depends on what you want to do, and you can probably just buy a Blue Mk XI off of the Exchange... unless you're going AP for your energy weapons... and then it's Sphere of Influence.

Thanks, i'll look into it ... (I am using cannons, if that makes any difference).

    The 'Breen' set looks interesting...

For my free set up I have liked using Breen set with Obelisk rift core and the omni beam. Gives the trans torpedo bonus for the cluster and I used cheaper voth ap weapons vs normal application weapons that the core and beam give a bonus to.

On a side note after I upgraded I put this gear on my shuttle and had a lot of fun with it. Walkers hate the cluster.

The Jem Hadar set's engines are useful, sadly the set itself is rather niche, but the engines have a very high turn rate bonus.

Yes, the Breen set is nice for Transphasic weapons, especially since there are good free Transphasic weapons in the Breen episodes. Plus, you get free Lobi crystals during the current Episode replay, which can be used to get more goodies.

There's no specific set that boosts Cannons. Some free sets do boost certain energy types, however.

The aforementioned Jem'hadar set also benefits from the Episode replay period (free Lobi crystals), and can boost Polaron cannons. I think you can also pick up Dominion Polaron Cannons, which is slightly better than a standard Polaron Cannon. Polaron Dual Heavies & Turrets are also not as prohibitively expensive as other sets, and you can get some through the Dyson Sphere reputation grind.

If you happen to use Antiproton weapons, then the Obelisk Warp Core & 360 Beam Array (from the "Sphere of Influence" episode) will help a lot. However, AP weapons and Tac consoles are expensive to buy... not recommended for new level 50 characters.

The Solanae pieces offer an unbeatable price to performance ratio. Although if you missed the Grindiversary, no core for you. Fill missing gap with the Obisek Core from the other mission, still available.

Just depends on what you mean by 'budget'.

The Aegis is a nice well rounded set. It's the beginner set for going into STFs, essentially. But there are plenty of free stuff from missions. If you have fleet credits and some Dil, fleet equipment has some nice stats; but can be a bit pricy. At least you don't have to grind a Rep for 2 months and then pay Dil and etc for some set.

For Warp Cores, check the exchange. Some pretty decent ones go fairly cheap there. Or have your doffs, do the mission to build one. With some decent luck they'll build you a very rare Mk XI for free. ;) If I didn't have fleet cores already, some of the ones my doffs built would have been put on my ships.

    My advice:

JemHadar set from the 2800 story arc (last 5 Cardassian missions), if you want to play offensive and with Polaron weaponry.

Breen set, nah. The Transphasic bonus is nice if you use transphasic torpedoes, but they generally do not perform the same as other torpedoes (quantum cough cough).

Solanae set from A Step Between Stars has decent items that will allow you to survive PvE. Experimented with them on a tanky ship, was not disappointed.

Warp core: get the one from Sphere of Influence. Good stats, nice shield healing bonus.

Pretty much as above ... Also if you haven't already I'd suggest looking at this thread (wish a Mod would 'sticky' it)

Which still does not show (f.e.) DOffs, devices or which set items belong to. But yes, another list to use.

The rep system consoles are all good in some way:
Borg one has extra critH, critD, +5 weapon power, couple of minor gains plus a handy weapon power gain when used with the kcb. This close to essential. Borg marks from stfs easy.

Zero point from the rom rep - +critH, extra power for all 4 system, and bit of power insulator. crit and power make this essential, plus it fits in the rom set for extra plasma damage. Rom marks from either chasing space bunnies or doing missions.

Nukara +5 shield power, +10% acc for beams and a couple of smallish benefits. Fits in the nukara set which is tetryon based so rarely used. This is very good for beam ships, the acc bonus can translate to extra critH and critD. Marginal for cannon or torp builds. Nukara marks can mean doing the crystalline elite repeatedly.

dyson + weapon and engine power - that welcome, proton weapon boost fine if you have proton weapons, extra eps is always good. Fairly meh until used with the set bonus from the gravimetric photon torp, then you get an additional 3% critH for your attacks and +23% photon weapon damage. Dyson marks are easy to collect from the battleground

Undine 2 consoles: rep hydrodynamics console + engine and aux power, flight turn and targeting.

Mission replay multi-energy relay a tac console with phaser, disruptor, photon and radiation. With up to 3 set bonus powers, good for phaser, disruptor and photon torp users. Undine marks are easy to collect in the ground mission.

Add in some normal tac consoles and armour and your console spots are soon filled with some helpful addons. people normally start with basic tac consoles, sci consoles boosting shields and armour, then drop some armour and shield consoles for more offensive ones.

I agree about the Jem Hadar set. Besides, it is a really good set with interesting features and the mkXII version (adquired by the lobi shop) is really great if you use a polaron build.

I disagree about the Breen set. Using it with a transphasic build is amazing. If you dont get enough performance is because you doing something wrong. Period. I have a breen chet transphasic buiild with the full set and i love it. Too bad we dont have mkXII versions. Really bad. And transphasics with the right boost and build are maybe the second or third best regular torpedo out there. The initial base damage is lower than other torps, but with the boost of the set plus consoles, it doesnt matter at all. And what the hell, its the only set to boos transphasic damage out there.

And yes the solanae set is the best "free" set you can get. But again, depends on what weapons you will use or your build. If you going for polaron, the jem hadar set i think is a must, so you will need to avoid the solanae, for example.

I have started running with the Solanae set myself. I like the survivability it offers, and is free with just a little time to do the mission repeatedly. The Jhem set is a good one, and does add a little weapon DPS increase for Polarons. However, if you would like to have a free set that will help you with survivability. The Solanae set is the best free one.

For a core, I suggest you look at one of the ones you can get free from a mission. I found that unless you get a fleet quality core, you will not find a big difference in the regular ones. If you pull up your missions that offer them, you can hover the mouse over the list of rewards before accepting the mission, and see the stats. All you need to do is look for something that will help you out.

Personally, I would recommend looking at what you already have before making I choice. If you are doing good damage already, but need survivability, then I suggest a space set that will help with survivability. If you are doing good with survivability, but would like to increase DPS, then you might consider one that increases the energy type of the weapons you use.

In the end, what works for one will not always work for the other. What matters most is what you need more help with, or what you would like more.

    Breen set / Solanae set
These two sets you have to really test and see what works for you to use depend on your ship features. Each set has some nice features to use. Undine and Voth weapons are ideal here too to add to these sets. The Breen shields makes your hull look like ancient but the perk to drain other ships resources to your ship resources is a perks.
