Love it in concept, but Bridge Officer limitations.
The most important component of all ship builds are the boff abilities they have. Because I have a limited number of Bridge Officers and have spent quite a bit of resources getting the ones with the space traits I want I have no desire to use other ones.
Because of that switching from one ship, say a cannon wielding escort to a beam equipped cruiser I would be forced to have an entire second set of bridge officers with the proper abilities trained. And I do not find that to be worth the effort.
Honestly the only thing I would use the loadout system for, say to swap out my science boff for another one with different abilities to fit the situation a bit better, can be just as easily done by simply switching out the boff.
I don't know the solution sadly. All I do know is the loadout system has amazing potential but no actual use to me because of the above limitation. Remove that and all my toons would have atleast one of each ship type ready to go for each situation. Maybe have the boff abilities trained to the loadout instead of to the boffs? I dunno.
I thought this was a parodic post about the loadout system. lol.
I thought i was going to read something like "i dont use loadout system cuz it is badly broken and blah blah blah.." lol.
If the loadout system someday is working as intended, without headaches, then it will be a really great feature, until then, we cant even speculate about it. Because honestly for the majority of people it only presented problems.
You could also use the loadout system to swap gear on the same ship to maximize combat against particular enemies - a Borg build, Undine build, etc.
You could also use it to switch between various ships of the same type, just for fun (switching from a cruiser to a different cruiser likely wouldn't require many different boff abilities).
Anyways, even if it's a feature we rarely/never use, I'm sure there are those who do.
...talking to players is like being a mall Santa. Everyone immediately wants to tell you all of the things they want, and you are absolutely powerless to deliver 99% of them.

Or would, if the kinks were worked out.
I once had a loadout pairing for my KDF Sci with only one difference between the two - used it to swap in/out a Borg Impulse engine...
Yeah, could have done it via inventory, however it's a little less cluttered doing it via loadout, and I wanted to play with it some...
Now that she has a Tuffli, she uses ship-swapping when she wants high-speed sector travel...
Detecting big-time "anti-old-school" bias here. NX? Lobi. TOS/TMP Connie? Super-promotion-box. (aka the two hardest ways to get ships) Excelsior & all 3 TNG "big hero" ships? C-Store. Please Equalize...

Yep, the only thing wrong with loadouts is them being barely-working TRIBBLE. Other than that "minor detail," they're fantastic.
Other than that?? you realize the loadout system is the number 1 cause of the most frustrating experiences in STO, right and more than 50% of the people dont use it? we dont have a loadout system, period. Not yet.
It would be great if we could save Skill Trees and Key-Binds per ship, other than the load-out system was working good more or less until Season 9 hit.

at least it tends to work for me more often than not(with the exception of my two rom-KDF characters with whom it never works, god knows why).
