Since the build help thread seems to be pretty dead I decided to post here.
I recently got the FPE-R and have found it to be a very good upgrade over the Mobius my main was flying. However, I am not too sure which way to go with the build. Perhaps the ship's flexibility is giving me too many choices.
I find that most of my kills come from sensor scan and running down opponents. And subnuc is a huge crutch for me. With most targets I have no problem keeping my DHCs on target but those bugs and hunters still get the best of me.
In the past week I ran several builds:
First was an A2B/A2D hybrid - This build performed well enough, however it left something to be desired. I used to run double A2D on my Mobius and this ship feels more sluggish overall, which I'm not happy about.. Pros: Tanky, Cons: Less than full uptime, would like a second SRO
Second was a double A2B - Again this build was fine, but I found myself without aux power at inconvenient times. A2B and DHCs, meh. Pros: Full cd reduction on most abilities, Cons: Aux power often low when needed and terribly sluggish without A2D
I'm currently running a more standard build. This build has performed as good or better than the A2B/A2D with more damage from the second SRO tac. Pros: More damage, better crits, proper uptime, Cons: Fragile
So should I just break down and get Marion and do a full A2B beamscort? Because that's what I think I the devs want me to do. I want to stay with phasers and I already have most rep gear. I could always just run a FBP build in an escort... just a thought.
While I do occasionally queue up in the solo/duo queue, I spend most of my PvP time in Ker'rat. I really enjoy dogfighting, but of course the FPE-R can't compete with the turn rate of other ships. Any suggestions are welcome, cost isn't an issue (though I refuse to get the JHAS).

Keep the cannons, and use one a2bat and 1 a2demp.
3 a2bat doffs one a2demp and one for shorter TT.

its a heavy escort, not a quick fencing escort. can only have max 3 turn consoles, and a bottom of escort 16 turn, so you got to rely a bit more on its shear tankyness then on target uptime. im just not much of a fan of AtB/AtD builds unless im vapeing mostly, the downtime on tac skills is just a killer. its beter on ships like the mogai of risan, were you have a LT tac tooso you can have 2 CRF and TT, 1 AtB is enough to keep APO happy. lately, ive been running
TT1, CSV1, TS3, APO3
EPtE1, AtB1, EPtS3
ET1, AtB1, RSP2
HE1, ST2
get the bio torp up front, grav, proton weapon, and new heavy turret aft, and shoot things to death, and watch the bio torp give you mind blowing hits. CSV seems to do a beter job at keeping shields down with how it applies damage, then the long delay between DHC CRF cycles. shields can close up between CRF cycles easy. the DPS difference between CRF1 and CSV1 is negligible, and unless you would have breached shields and dealt hull damage each CRF cycle, the DPS score is all that's important, not the spike potential of CRF. when was the last time an all DHC build blew down your faceings to deal hull damage? probably wasn't lately, unless it was a scimitar.
you could also try 3 DBB with FAW2 up front, im finding the way may be the best at leaveing a shield faceing down and vulnerable the longest for torp impacts, as long as you get them to do enough damage to drop them in the first place. with 5 tac consoles, it should be up for the task. you wont find your self at a turn rate disadvantage with all 90 degree weapons up front ether
you can use this biotorp revolving build on just about everything though, not just patrol. dont forget to slot knetic sheering and the unidine universal console too, skip that pos tac console though imo.
With tetryon gliders I am able to strip a facing pretty easily with my DHCs. Since I have some of the gear already, I may try 3 DHC with the grav torp and a TS3, just for a "proof of concept" run.
A more maneuverable ship can just turn and bring a full facing up though. This is why I think the powers that be just want me to A2B FAW spam and hope for a kill... [sigh]
hope for a kill or :

DHC +biotorpedo front/grav torp aft Scimitar(and arkif)

I use both HY3 and spread3 on fresh-made "suicide" ar'kif triple tac build(Tac cmdr, ltc, lt, sci lt, eng ensign )
BTW funny how many ppl are starting using torpedos only now. I grant that it is much easier now, but way too many ppl were relying on double tap on BO and a2b DEM single array FAW.

Wow.
I'm not looking to team, I just want to Kirk. I accept that I'll die, not a problem. The main issue I have is keeping DHCs on target. I thank DDIS for the interesting DBB and Torp idea.
I don't think I whined about anything, nor did I reject anyone's advice. And I know spike gets kills, thus why I already had BO3. I've only been playing for a couple years and dabbling in PvP for far less time, so I'm not trying to return to any golden age.
Not sure what I did to warrant your long, rage filled response...
