The Borg have gotten their hands on a Normality Enforcer Device from some ancient race.
The device prevents STO space magic from working in the mission.
Science captains beware as you have to battle your way to the device by using actual ship weapons instead of aimable black holes and gravity wells that in a real environment would negate the need for warp drive.
Tractor beams operate realistically and will be torn from mounts if a smaller ship tries to pin a larger one or there is a significant difference in velocity.
Cloaking Devices don't work if the ships shields are down or if the ship is below 50% hull as these devices are depicted as fragile in the shows.
Disable the device or have to play the real way!
Note: realistic powers that buff your ship are uneffected by this device. Pretty much you can do what you want to your own ship. Holds and debuffs are broken in "Real Space."
So...your idea for new content is to tell scis to sod off?
No one will play this.
Well...possibly, if it were added simultaneously with a "counterpart" STF in which only Sci effects did any damage, and "normal" weapons were completely useless, so everyone could split off into little sub-communities where only their specialty is welcome, it could conceivably work.
Which doesn't make the idea any less terrible, just "a potentially working terrible idea."
Everywhere I look, people are screaming about how bad Cryptic is.
What's my position?
That people should know what they're screaming about!
(paraphrased from "The Newsroom)
There's already a general feeling that content is geared towards DPS maniacs and little else, and that science captains and ships are lacking in offensive capability, and you want to make that an undeniable reality?
This is a terrible, terrible idea.

There used to be a picture here, but they changed signatures and I can't be bothered to replace it.
Want to know what I want in a new PvE queue or STF? A necessity to have at least one sci vessel on your team or you would fail. And I say this with only my tac Reman having a sci ship (free dyson sci-destroyer). Up side: rewards a lot of marks and dilithium.
Support 90 degree arc limitation on BFaW! Save our ships from looking like flying disco balls of dumb!
Right, because this game isn't already about loading up A2B + FAW and DPSing everything to space dust in 2 minutes flat, lets just remove Sci Vessels completely.

What could we call it, "DPS or Die?"
Just...no.
No one will play this.

Already have 7 STFs. We've got enough Borg. I stopped reading. Don't want any more Borg content. I want new villains.
Infected, Cure, Khitomer. Hive. That's 4. 8 if you break it up into space/ground segments.
Honest curiosity, what are the 7 STFs by your count?
There is such a counterpart, it's called PvP.
Also, most of the rest of the game.
It's spaaaacceee maaaagiiiiiic.
