I knew branflakes used to play sto but, how many other employees at cryptic play sto. I mean for fun. Not part of your job. At home or work. Doesn't matter. Also did you play before you got a job at cryptic.
The answer to this simple question actually answer one that is a whole lot more complicated. ty for your time.
Obviously, the devs have their own private accounts and are in fleets with regular STO members that have no idea that they are playing with a dev. The question is do devs use those private accounts to post on the forums?

If they say 3 times KDF will never get anymore content its definately a dev on their private account. Also if their location says unknown and they appear in a towel after swimming in their vault full of shiney coins.
Yes they do get on private accounts and its a great way to insult yourself without having to do it in front of a mirror. Reason I know this is because when I am doing it and someone agrees with me its a dev on their private account. So be careful if you say KDF will never get any content or agreeing on anything with me because then you will get hounded for zen, lockbox keys, and inside info.
In all honesty you really don't need to know because this falls under the tree in the forest clause. If there is no one in the forest does the tree make a sound when it falls? So if they aren't going to tell who they are on private accounts you'll never know the difference between if they actually play or if they are just blowing smoke up your nacelles
I know Borticus plays. He was in a reddit CCE with me yesterday. Sadly, he didn't spawn a Jove ship and annihilate everything...
I am NikkoJT, Foundry author and terrible player. Follow me!
There used to be a picture here, but they changed signatures and I can't be bothered to replace it.
So that's why they kept it basically the best Sci ship ever.
Now who flies Scimitars and the Tempest?
TOIVA, Toi Vaxx, Toia Vix, Toveg, T'vritha, To Vrax: Bring in the Allegiance class. Toi'Va, Ti'vath, Toivia, Ty'Vris, Tia Vex, Toi'Virth: Add Tier 6 KDF Carrier and Raider. Tae'Va, T'Vaya, To'Var, Tevra, T'Vira, To'Vrak: Give us Asylums for Romulans.
...talking to players is like being a mall Santa. Everyone immediately wants to tell you all of the things they want, and you are absolutely powerless to deliver 99% of them.
Was just curious really, I find the idea of devs incognito in everyday player fleets to be pretty cool seeing some of the dramas that no-doubt occur here and there and how different fleets operate I imagine would be really interesting from a dev point of view.
"If this will be our end, then I will have them make SUCH an end as to be worthy of rememberance! Out of torpedos you say?! Find me the ferengi!".
The developers do not play Star Trek Online recreationally, that much is glaringly obvious. The few who you actually see moving around like Borticus were players before joining Cryptic or PWE.
The primary distinction here is "plays the game" versus "has some characters". Having a few characters/alts and logging in a few times a year doesn't mean you play the game.
Not trying to be nasty, but logical... given how players view the game and how hugely different that is from how the developers view the game (and us) as evidenced by many forum posts here in the Dev Tracker and the lack of fixes to crazy longstanding bugs and various Quality of Life issues.
I have specifically avoided employment in the games industry but several of my past colleagues worked with EA and several others. Add that to how the devs talk when they do log in to chat with their dev accounts, they're pretty slammed and work all the time, even on stuff they don't (but really really should) get our input on. If you worked at KFC for 8+ hours a day, 5+ days a week, the last thing you'd want to eat at meal time would be chicken.
Delta Rising is the best expansion ever and the players love it! No, seriously! ...Why are you laughing so hard?

Also single...apparently
My PvE/PvP hybrid skill tree
Used to play? He still does play STO. :P
And once in a blue moon I'll run into Gozer and Captain Logan playing on their private accounts as well.

No.
Sorta.
Yes.
Yes.
We do play STO. My main is a tactical shooty mc'shooty Fed. Then again I have quite a bit of alts as well.
I'm quite curious

Don't make ARC mandatory! Keep it optional only!
As far as I know, they are free to join fleets on their personal accounts (no dev perks, and likely no one would even know they were a dev).
