Can we just launch our shuttles?

kayajaykayajay Member Posts: 1,990 Arc User
I'm not talking about launching multiple pets like a carrier, but couldn't we launch just one shuttle, whichever we have and that would act like a Multi-Vector piece of an Acquarious?

It wouldn't have to have a special loudout, but would just be a fun thing to do :)

Some ships, like the Oddy you mentioned, or the D'Kyr already have this option. Having a combat-useful pet is something you pay for, though. It is special - which is why Carriers are special.
STO is about my Liberated Borg Federation Captain with his Breen 1st Officer, Jem'Hadar Tactical Officer, Liberated Borg Engineering Officer, Android Ops Officer, Photonic Science Officer, Gorn Science Officer, and Reman Medical Officer jumping into their Jem'Hadar Carrier and flying off to do missions for the new Romulan Empire. But for some players allowing a T5 Connie to be used breaks the canon in the game.

This isn't SFC I, II, or III so using shuttles you clearly have on board to augment yourself is not allowed. Also, given how stupid the combat pet AI still is you are really just throwing your crew to their death. It's kinder to just shoot them yourself.

It's odd to think of a fighting machine as a 'pet'.

    Pet is a gaming term.

Still, I think even in Star Trek very few would consider, say, a Type 8 shuttle to be a "fighting machine" when compared to whatever ship it came out of.

After a fashion the devs have said they want to do something like this. Specifically they've been talking about since around New Romulus about letting us bring in some of our currently not in service ships as a personal fleet.

Given where getting a level cap rise with the next expansion...

I always liked the thought of a multipurpose slot for all ships that could be used as a hangar bay but had a wide choice of optional uses.
But given the general hate towards carriers I'm probably the only one who likes that idea.

All ships except escorts/raiders/destroyers should have had a hanger and tractor beam IMHO
Should I start posting again after all this time?

All ships do have Tractor Beams - there are some missions where you have to Tractor someone. The difference is that not every Bridge Officer has the skill to use a Tractor effectively in combat - thus only the Skilled Boffs have access to combat Tractors.

OK, that was unexpected. I was waiting to see some new force field technology in play. :)

I would like to have shuttles with each ship that act as a Doff support pet. A limited number would either allow access to special Doff missions or, for long range shuttles, allow access to Doff missios in neighboring blocks. This would give the feel of having non-combat shuttles aboard all ships without actually having everyone spawn a herd of shuttles that have no combat value. Players could even buy upgraded shuttles that will reduce the time needed to complete missions or give a boost for success. The would be Doff versions of shuttles and runabouts.

I'm all for this, but how profitable can this be for Cryptic?

Also, do they have enough programmers to pull this off? Personally I'd love to be able to launch my shuttle and fight within it. Or having a fleet with me (the way we can call in the Pirates for help, minus the 10 year cool down).
One day Cryptic will be free from their Perfect World overlord. Until that day comes, they will continue to pamper the whales of this game, and ignore everyone that isn't a whale.

Norway and Yeager dammit... I still want my Typhoon and Jupiter though.
JJ Trek The Kelvin Timeline is just Trek and it's fully canon... get over it. But I still prefer TAR.

Man, after so much dangling the Iconian carrot and relating it with everything in STO, I think Pakleds are cooler then Iconians. :P

cryptic could just take the starfleet command game approach and give every ship a hangar and a tractor beam.

but for the sake of keeping a point to having carriers, let regular ships be able to launch only the basic shuttles(like the type 8 ones) and nothing more(in SF:command II you could generally only launch fighters/etc if you were flying a carrier, save few exceptions).
