I finally fell victim to other players using this as a grief mechanism. I was just sitting outside DS9 and a team of players (all in the same fleet) were unleashing fighters/drone in large numbers then triggering TDG. It only crashed the gameclient, which went into an unresponsive state from which it never recovered, my PC itself chugged along fine. My suggestion would be to deactivate this device on social maps.
It's probably just me, but this doesn't seem to be affected by graphics culling. This always appears on my screen no matter how flooded the map is with weapons fire or particle effects. Fortunately it doesn't crash my rig but it does cause my game to substantially halt for several seconds.
I think that's what 'weirded' me out most by it. My rig (still responsive and able to switch/kill tasks, resource monitor ok) was fine but the gameclient died a very unceremonious death. There were at least 30 fighters/drones in the zone and when TDG activated I could see an attempt at the lines it makes being drawn then gameclient almost immediately flatlined.

erm... while tachyon grid does lag somewhat, its not bad enough to actually crash the client with measly 30 fighters, unless your PC is VERY old(mine is 4.5+ years old and can take it).

Well that's simply not true, others have reported this problem as revealed by a search. Plus, this group had 30 fighters (at least as I had said), plus their ships, plus all the other ships in the zone, plus their fighters/mines, the wormhole, etc, etc.
(My PC is an i7 w/24 GB RAM, GeForce GTX 650 w/1GB RAM, playing in DX11 FWIW)
Hmmm, I may have been caught and crashed by this. I was idling above DS9 a little before 7:30 pm PDT and notice a bunch of pets (lots of them), circling/parked around a ship, then flash of blue, massive lag and client crash followed by an hour long full dump error upload to Cryptic, during which my computer is virtually useless, as all upload bandwidth (what little there is) is consumed by the error reporting gizmo.

Ha, sounds like you were there. I posted here right after it happened and the timestamp on my original post matches up. I didn't crash luckily, STO just became unresponsive, my mouse worked and I could Alt+Tab. Had to manually close gameclient.exe. Thanks for posting your experience!

I came to the forums and made a post in one of the Season 9 graphic problems threads in the bug section a bit after it happened as I was having ships winking in and out and even the wormhole disappearing depending on where the camera was pointing.
I had no idea this was a thing that has been going on.
People sure are uh.... mmm.... "creative" aren't they?
I remain empathetic to the concerns of my community, but do me a favor and lay off the god damn name calling and petty remarks. It will get you nowhere.
I must admit, respect points to Trendy for laying down the law like that.
I've had a few people do this in the new space battlezone a few times. I was not amused.
Honestly... the Undine BZ is one of those places where it's actually USEFUL. Some of the Undine ships use a stealth ability. But I'm not sure if it's actually effective. I never actually use the one I have.
Yes, using this in an environment with many friendly ships such as CE or a public area tends to pretty much hang the entire game. It's not clear why: Drawing a few lines should not bring the entire game to a crawl. There's some kind of exponential explosion going on in the code.

I think you are mistaken. Undines don't cloak. They use jam sensor or whatever it is, that make them disappear for the target of this skill (and look like stealth), but they are still there for everyone else to see.
They also teleport, but AFAIK it's not stealth.

undine dont cloak, since htey jam sensors, something that cleanses said jam is the way to find them, not TDG.
no better than the idiots that troll with the discoball. i love how cryptic felt the bio dampener was a grief tool but the discoball isnt
The bio dampener was causing people with lower end rigs to have their clients either lock up or crash out completely when people used multiple grenades. As far as I know, the disco ball does no such thing.

Too Funny!
Give players a way to harass other players and they WILL use it to harass other players.
People do it for awhile, there are a few posts made, then it dies down again. It might be going on, but it ebbs and flows.
