Back from 2012

As the title implies, I just got back from 2012 and I have to say Im pissed.

WOW do the devs do a simply amazing job at making anything and everything impossibly difficult to figure out, without having the tutorial redone. Want to check if my ship is the level 10-19 one on an alt or see if I jumped into the new lvl 20 one? Spend 30 minutes looking for the klingon ship selector/sales people on the klingon first world before realizing its not even there, but you need to teleport to it.

How could I possibly have figured that out without vaguely remembering.

Oh this only begins my rage.

I have some nice gear, all XI or XII purple, on the default escort for a lvl 50. I spent a lot of time in the elite pve Qs and such gearing up with the best stuff at the time.

Through tac team, and defensive balance, and shield buffs and hull resists and everything you could possibly throw up, a single person can instagib me. Through all that, in 1 second, I can be destroyed from max HP and shields.

Theres literally nothing I can do.

This is enjoyable how? This is supposed to instill a feeling of fun competition? All it does is slap me in the face repeatedly every arena with the words PAY TO WIN PAY TO WIN

Yes I can grind it all out, buying 10 different lockbox ships for their unique weapons and consoles etc, ending up with some fleet ship and literally spending over a years worth of time playing 8h daily...

But who wants to? Really, who wants to use the garbage instagibbed ship I have.. I dont even like the escort, I want a science vessel, I grinded out 500 zen at like 300 dilithium each because I wanted a damn science vessel back then, I started a klingon and they dont have science vessels, I started another romulan thinking oh yay redo federation but not boring as a real federation.. and what do I get, FORCED INTO A ESCORT AGAIN RAAAAWWWWWRRRRRRR

Not cool, not cool at all. Back in 2012 people were complaining about the burst damage, about how things are getting too easy to blow up and theres no skill involved.. well this is 10x worse, I couldnt even post on the forums because it told me I had to wait a certain time after registering.. while on the same page showing my registration on the forums was 2013.

2013, I came to the forums after coming back to this game, feeling enraged about some other stuff... probably to do with how hard it was to figure everything out again like I said, and other annoyances.

TLDR burst is absolutely ridiculous and the game has gone full blown pay to win, after 2 days of playing again - do not want.

Im not putting in the effort to grind because its simply not enjoyable enough. If I could actually do more than 10% damage to someones shields and get gibbed through all buffs and defensive setup, I would play the pvp for 8 hours a day for the next half year... but not with this garbage instagibbed escort. Sorry.

I really want to play this game, I just dont want to spend 4 months being bent over in a totally useless ship (which has all purple Xi XII I might add) to get a mediocre ship/gear that only allows me to do average, regardless of the amount of skill I have.

Pass it on, Im doing you a favor. Some survivability and need for coordination to take down ships would increase the skill needed exponentially. Thats a good thing.

Um... who said anyone was being forced into an escort? My 2 Sci characters fly Vestas while my main, a Tac, is flying an Assault Cruiser Refit.

grabbed the escort in 2012 when I hit 50 because I hadnt used one while lvling. Stuck with it ever since, unable to get another science vessel if I wanted without grinding 1-50 again.

Which I almost did on klingon until I realized they dont have science vessels either (after some significant time lvling, before I quit last time)

You take PVE seriously in this? Its shooting fish in a barrel, its literally faceroll easy and the endgame was doable in greens back in 2012. PVP is the absolute only reason to even play this game, unless you like RP LOL

Now thats something to laugh derisively at.

Honestly, been here longer than you have and only played maximum 5 games of pvp, unless you count hunting in Ker'rat. Seriously, pvp has been so broken in this game for such a long time that it isn't worth playing. It never was. If you think that pvp is the only thing worth doing in this game, EVE online is that way.

I was grinding out the Vesta bundle before the first Crystaline Entity event hit. That was a significant boost to my Dilithium for the Exchange. So it is possible to get. Heck... most of my C-Store purchases have been via Dilithium Exchange. And then with this recent Mirror event, I managed to get enough to get the Mogh Battlecrusier for my KDF.

Any T5 ship can work if you are willing to invest into it. Just because Cryptic releases a shiny new Escort doesn't mean other ships are now obsolete. I myself have experience flying each ship type, and have tried to have at least one of each type of ship outfitted per character depending on how I want to play that particular day. They... just have a preferred ship type except for my Romulan who is kinda locked in a Warbird.

If you want a new ship, then by all means work towards it. Set a goal. That's what I do when I start grinding out Dilithium and don't want to get sidetracked by uniform purchases.

No but nice try. Complaining that PVP is IMBA is like complaining that the sky is blue.

p.s. you can get any sci ship (any ship at all for that matter) at any time, just drop some dilithium on it at the shipyard (or other currency at fleet or lobi or c-store) and you don't have to pay an actual cent for it. You're not "stuck" with your escort at all. Unless you mean you want a science captain in which case, yes you would need to roll a new character if your current one isn't.

Eve online is A not free to play B not this game C totally different in playstyle and D broken, very very broken and destroyed compared to its former glory.

This game has an awesome set of mechanics and combat style, the problem is its over too quickly.. as in.. 1 second.

I like this game a lot, Im trying to want to play it but theres just issues holding pvp back from being the amazing thing it could be. If you dont like pvp, youre the type of people we used to shoo away on world of ******** (LOL@CENSOR)and tell you to go to a PvE server if you didnt like it.

You say "some" dilithium like it doesnt take 4 months of grinding 8k a day.

If all I needed was 20k dilithium to buy the equal science vessel to my garbage escort I probably would have years ago.

Say I want to grind that dilithium in PVP, with dailies. Now you see my problem. I have to use the escort. A LOT and get instagibbed FOR MONTHS

Some things are worth the effort if you can't afford to buy it immediately. Just be glad the DL Exchange isn't in the 300+ range. If you're maxed out on Omega Rep, I'd suggest hitting that up and trading all the marks and Processors in for DL. 3 Processors = 1k DL and 50 marks = 500 DL. That can add up.

I came really close to just uninstalling(Ive never uninstalled it since I downloaded it) after the last pvp match where they started going after me just because I was a free kill (again, all purple XI-XII stuff - I shouldnt be a free kill through all my CDs and tac team etc). I made this thread because its pretty hard to want to play again after getting that feeling.

I made it so that devs might read it, I know, I shouldnt hold my breath.

I know that feeling. I've fallen victim to that so many times, I don't even BOTHER with PVP because unless you got all the best gear and generally specific builds, you're easy prey. My Assault Cruiser doesn't stand a chance against a drain build or a sneak, sneak, Alpha Strike Boom build. So I don't even bother going in. What keeps me coming back to STO though is not the gameplay, but the friends I made in the fleet I'm in. Things may get rough or tedious, but my fleetmates make it all the more fun because of the banter and stuff that goes on.

I guess its like that scene from Independence Day where the guy's dad talks about everyone loosing faith at some point.

Besides... PVP is so broken in favor of instakill builds it ain't even funny anyways. Only time it's even close to balanced is probably if its shuttle on shuttle.

I recall hearing a lot of "instagibbed" in Ker'rat earlier and someone carrying on just raging away in zone chat... must have been you.

You were fighting a guy in a JHAS with Elachi guns. Elachi weapons happen to bypass shields. That's pretty much where PvP has gone with Aux2Batt constantly keeping shields up. The guy you faced is pretty good and kept up with the times. You can't expect to win after two years, that's just silly.

You can get new ships rather cheaply these days. A mirror Nova is a solid science ship that can be earned in less than 5 minutes of play time. Contrary to popular belief, it's actually easier to get into PvP now than it ever has been. If you post your build I'd be happy to give you some pointers.

So yes, your stuff from two years ago is absolute vendor trash in terms of PvP. If you want to PvP, you'll either have to adapt or give up.

Until you can earn the DL for Zen or something, I'd suggest taking a look at the Mirror ships on the Exchange. Not quite as badass as a C-Store ship, but there is a good mix of Escorts, Cruisers, and Sci Ships to choose from, and Fed side they tend to be pretty cheep. KDF and Romulan Mirror ships tend to be a bit more expensive since they didn't have as many variants. Maybe try out the Mirror Science Vessel Retrofit or Mirror Heavy Cruiser Retrofit. I THINK the Mirror Heavy Cruiser might have a similar BOff setup to the old Support Cruiser Retrofit that was event exclusive.

Feel free to start listing. So far all I see is pve for 500-1k or PVE for marks that turn into 500-1k and itl take 30 minutes each pve group.

The hot spot right now is the voth ground battle zone.

For cheap ships, search the Reward Packs tab of the exchange for the word "mirror" sans the quotes. A wide assortment awaits your perusal.

Nitpicking is a time-honored tradition of science fiction. Asking your readers not to worry about the "little things" is like asking a dog not to sniff at people's crotches. If there's something that appears to violate natural laws, then you can expect someone's going to point it out. That's just the way things are.

    Bull.

    Explain.

So youre saying I can buy a lvl 50 ship on the exchange. If so this is news to me.

How cheap? I have 500 zen I grinded out at 300 dil each back in 2012.
