Upgrading while preserving aesthetics

eighrichteeighrichte Member Posts: 338 Arc User
I'm new to STO, came with the Mac client release. Please forgive me if this has been covered; most of what I've found seems to relate to weapons that can only be bought in fleets.

I bought myself a Kumari for fun, and while I love it, it bothers me that I can't upgrade the phasers without spoiling the nice blue aesthetic of the default weapons. Are there Andorian variants of the standard higher-quality phasers? Or (doubtful) is there way, or any talk of a way, to apply cosmetic visual/sound effects to weapons?

When you buy the ship you unlock Blue Phasers for the Dil store, and the Fleet store.

Dil - oh, dilithium requisitions? And I assume the fleet store is only available to people in fleets?

    Thanks for the reply!

yes, however, the dil store ones are like mk XI, blues or purples, i cant rememeber, but either way, they are still pretty good.

the fleet ones are purple mk XII's. and yes, you need to be in a fleet, good news is though the fleet's starbase only needs to be high enough for advanced fleet weaponry.

And you don't necessarily have to be in the leet which's store you are using, just get an invite to one.
You need to have, however, the necessary fleet credits (which you get for donating to your fleet's projects) and your fleet needs to provide the gear provisions.

Amusingly the fleet ones are cheaper than the dil store ones, despite being better. 10k dil vs 19k. Just gotta find a fleet and some fleet credits, but worth it if you want your blue phasers.

The nice thing about the Fleet Phasers vs Andorian phasers is they are direct clones of each other, so now it comes down to "Do I want blue or reddish-orange?" I have a fleetmate who runs them simply because of the color.

    Thanks for all the replies!

I should probably join a fleet at some point. I keep getting random invites without so much as a "hello," and I don't know why someone would want to invite someone they know nothing about into their fleet.

But this gives me an excellent starting point. Thank you, all!

As you play the game, pay attention to peoples fleet names when you;re teamed with them.

Over time, you'll get a sense of who's active and whether or not they play the way you find fun.

Then you can ask them if they're recruiting.
