Is it really bad luck??

hyefatherhyefather Member Posts: 1,286 Arc User
I've always bought lockboxes and opened duty officer packs. Im just one of thos ppl. Here latley it seems like the odds have increased. It may just be me but I don't win like I normally do. Admittedly its not often but from time to time, I will luck up. Anyone else got the feeling that something is a little off. You know if cryptic had a bad quarter they could increase the odds to try and get ppl to buy more. I'd like to here from the hardcore player and not the cryptic forum police that have like 4000 and up posts. Witch I'm sure they will be eager to tell me i'm just haveing bad luck and nothings changed. But I feel that the hardcore sto player that invests in the game may have a diffrent opinion. Let me know please.?

P.S. Even my Powered alien artifacts are turning up with greens and I have 5 borg officers with all 4 traits need for a very rare item. (resolve, stubburn, efficent and cunning).

It's true that they could alter the drop rates and it would be difficult for us to tell since they're not published. But really they probably didn't change a thing. The odds per roll are static.

being that there arent a billion topics on the subject, im guessing the RNG has just been really ****ty for you.

and for those who dont know, RNG Is short for "Random Number Generator" or Generation.

Computers however, dont have true random number generation, they can, and sometimes do, get stuck giving the same number over and over, especially if done in quick succession, so waiting a while between box/pack openings will help make it more random.

As for DOFF success/crit success rates, it falls the same way, though there will never be a 100% no failure for them, it';ll be a small fraction of a percent, but it will still be there.

The odds have been discussed in dozens of threads since lockboxes began 2 years ago. It's 1/2 of 1%. Those are your odds of getting the special ship. It doesn't matter if you got 2 ships in a row or never got 1 in 1000 boxes. The odds are still 1/2 of 1%. You don't need to be a forum power poster to understand basic math. It's all luck.

Yes, or any number in between for that matter. The actual number is irrelevant, the point is you are looking for that one special roll of the lockbox.

The only person who actually wins is cryptic. Don't forget that
Should I start posting again after all this time?

    Vegas baby!

The House always wins. Which is daft given his total dependence on a life support machine and a lucky b'd who got shot in the head.

I never said anything about winning a ship. Or the odds of winning a ship. I was talking about everything other than a ship.

    ....

And this is a common misconception. Random number generation must allow the generation of one or more repeats of a selected number. It it didn't, then that means the Random Number Generation isn't very random... This is actually a very complex subject, and would make a good thesis paper topic for a Graduate Degree in Mathematics...

Basic Probability is another concept that many people have problems understanding. To roll a 1 on a single Dice has a probability of 1 out 6. Does this mean that rolling a Dice 6 times, you're always guaranteed to roll a 1 ???

You'll always have the lobis. They say those are the crystallized tears of STO's lockbox gamblers.

No, it just means that you have a good chance of seeing at least one 1 out of six rolls.

The lobi consolation prize is only there to skirt a loophole in gambling laws.

Buy keys, sell on the exchange for EC, use the EC to buy the ship you want from the Exchange and let the other guy attend Gamblers Anonymous meetings. Just make sure you have a high enough EC cap first.
