HI all. just wanting some feedback on what i have planned for my boffs now that I am approaching level 50 on my romulan:

Sci
Med Tricorder, Tac Harmonic, Vascular Regenerator, Nanite health monitor

Tac 1---Photon Grenade, Battle strategy, Plasma Grenade, Overwatch

Tac 2---Battle strategy, Suppressing fire, Plasma Grenade, Motion Accelerator

Eng
Mine barrier, turret fabrication, quantum mortar, support Drone.

I'd like to hear feedback if my abilities are off base.

Especially for a Rom with their strength bonuses, I'd turn one of your tac guys into a melee monster (especially since you're running two tacs). Melee weapon, sweeping strikes, lunge, overwatch, then turn him loose. Enemy AI just gets confused when you start to melee it.

Eng, I'd drop the mortar (most enemies move too quickly for the shots to hit) and upgrade your mines to 3 to really tear things up. Then toss on shield recharge or weapons malfunction in the free slot.

Sci, I tend towards getting the highest Med Tricorder available, then in that ens slot for the gravity hold (forget the name) to keep guys slow for opening grenades and suppressing-fire+AOE sprays.

It does depend somewhat as well, on what enemies you'll be fighting, you may need to set up several different "away teams" for different content ...

Engies, generally do well with Shield Recharge, Support Drone, and either Mines, Cannon type Turrets or Combat Supply.

It's also usually a good Idea to have at least one dedicated Healer/Medic, with all maxed Healing spells (as much as possible) and maybe one (what i call) 'Poisoner" Sci.

Tac's? Well as mentioned, a "Ninja" is sometimes a handy addition (I have one Reman BoFF, who I outfitted in the Hirogen Armor and a Bat'leth who is froicken deadly!)

That and "team" buffing abilities are also good on Tac's. grenades are a little like Mortar's .. .They can be good, but unfortunately, most enemies move out of there range, so it becomes a bit of a wasted power more often than not.

I haven't tried the melee tac Boff yet but it sounds interesting. I wonder if they can get assimilated by the borg since they get close?

I generally go with a dedicated sci, with nanite health, med tricorder 3 (capt trainable) vascular regen , then in the 1st slot tachyon harmonic, or hypo/dyv or elec grav. Sci gets the best equipment I can spare.

I don't usually take a tac on away missions, and if I have to, then it's that annoying chatterbox Toven. I use draw fire as one (or more) of his skills so he's killed right away and that saves damage on the worthwhile boffs. Probably not the best use of a tac but he annoys me. (I play KDF side exclusively).

I go with 3 engineers and they work well but DO NOT give them cover shield. They put it up at the wrong places at the wrong times and it can be annoying and even deadly. Turret 3 or support drone (turret seems better), mines ( 2 or 3) and weapons malfunction, or shield regen (best to mix them up and have both on your team). I avoid med and shield gens because they tend to reduce team movement since you are stuck within their AOE if they are to be useful.

Regarding mines, they are good against enemies that close, like borg, undine etc, or those that can be lured, but not so well against "stand-off" opponents like Feds or Tal shiar roms etc.

Engineers equipped for offense are real "force multipliers" and if you can equip one with an "expose fire" weapon and the rest with split-beam rifles, (I try to use a sniper rifle for the sci to try to keep him back from melee attacks), you have a real tough away team. You can have an ttack with 3 turrets, 3 mortars (or mines against borg or undine) 3 split beam rifles (use one yourself if you like) and hit the "concentrate fire" command button and you can usually take down a boss or high damage potential opponent rather quickly and mop-up the rest fairly fast too.

If you really want to go "special forces" with a ROM away team, get 3 "combat engineers" with all "plasma weapon specialist" trait and give them all plasma split beam rifles, and it's: Goodbye "Mr. Boss" and your filthy animal minions; And don't attack any Romulan or Romulan settlement again, or we'll be back.
    ANOTHER NERF !?!
