Now that we have the Tempest, 1 question...

The new Tempest escort has 8 weapon slots. My question is: So when are cruisers get 10 weapon slots? I mean really. The Tempest stat-wise is just about a cruiser but with awesome turning. So what are real cruisers going to get now?

And the poor old sci-ships are even more pathetic now. Might as well just make an escort w/ Commander Sci station and get rid of Sci-ships at this point. (Secondary Deflector is a joke, and not even out yet!)

There is more to being a Cruiser than just the number of weapons. Bridge Officer Slots, hull, and shield modifier play a part in this.

The fourth rear slot doesn't make it a cruiser at all.

The slot can only hold the 90 degree rear tail gun. The only way to use all 8 slots at once (like broadsiding cruisers) would be to have all turrets in the front slots and only face away from the enemy.
Take a look at my Foundry missions!

Pretty much this. It is a vanity weapon slot - and virtually useless in PvE where Rep-geared Fleet Escorts tend to blow things up on their first pass. :)
STO is about my Liberated Borg Federation Captain with his Breen 1st Officer, Jem'Hadar Tactical Officer, Liberated Borg Engineering Officer, Android Ops Officer, Photonic Science Officer, Gorn Science Officer, and Reman Medical Officer jumping into their Jem'Hadar Carrier and flying off to do missions for the new Romulan Empire. But for some players allowing a T5 Connie to be used breaks the canon in the game.

If they ever do add a 10-weapon slot Cruiser, it likely be a Battleship (Typhoon, Jupiter, upgraded Bortas'?) That or more hardlocked slots like the Dyson and the Tempest where there is a hard locked special weapon slot.

Starboard and Port Broadside ports... 2 of each, dropping Fore and Aft to 3 each.

...they should get it done for International Talk Like A Pirate Day in September!

Well, isn't the Gal-X kinda a 9 weapon slot Cruiser if we're going by integrated weapons? :P

Cruisers are fine as is. As it stands now, they need no further "buffing"

Science vessels, on the other hand, are next on the list.

    The Tempest class changes nothing.

    Indeed, it does.

    Indeed, it does.

But really only "kinda". The Phaser Lance is on a long cooldown, this new aft weapon for the Patrol Escort Refit presumable fires like any regular weapon.

I think it would be a neat tweak to the Galaxy Dreadnought if they actually had the Phaser Lance acting like a Dual Heavy Cannon* in beam form , with the occassional "overload lance" shot.

*) or dual beam bank in single beam form. Point is - small firing arc, more damage than a beam array.

    It really doesn't.

^Personally I think all tier 4 and 5 ships should have a dedicated torpedo or mine slot, it makes no sense to have ships flying with no torpedoes and call them fleet ships.
You do understand that personal customization has nothing to do with canon, right? Games are not like movies or TV shows. The players need a level of customization to be happy - as most people do not want to be another egg in the carton. Being like everyone else is boring to most gamers because they all want to believe they are unique. Thus they all want to use different weapons, different ship skins, use different equipment, etc.

This is not an attack on canon. This is just human gamers exercising their need to be unique and outside of the mold.

Especially since Warships also have a 4th aft weapon slot.
