Every once in awhile I will see someone flash DPS metrics after an STF. I have heard and/or read a few things about this. On thing I saw said that DPS meters are not allowed in game. Another thing said they are not very accurate, like it adds damage of other units it shouldn't and/or omits damage that should be included. Is any of this true or does anyone have any good information about this topic?

Thats too bad I would like to see how I'm doing. When I played WoW DPS meters were a great tool at improving rotations and builds. I wish cryptic would build one into the game.

WoW has had great Mods since shortly after day 1, and they are prohibited on this game.
Different parsers can be set up differently, so actually comparing what your parser tells you with what someone else's does isn't very useful and can yield greatly different values. At the same time, the combatlog has a problem of logging correctly whatever happens further out from you. In case of KASE, for instance, the DPS of those players battling on the opposite side of you will be greatly reduced as a result.
However, keeping parses can at least inform yourself on your own performance (at least partially, if you keep hammering a gate while transformers are still up, your DPS may result high, but you were entirely useless in the run --> DPS isn't all in itself). And if flying close to others, more or less reliably on their performance as well.
When it comes to a large difference in DPS between different queues, different missions, keep in mind most parsers are set up so that they show the averaged out damage over the whole lenght of fighting from the first shot parsed to the last one fired. If periods of non activity are in between, that average value will tank quickly. Great differences can also arise from the use of single target or AoE abilities, depending on the number of targets.
Don't also forget that several players together targeting a single target can, by use of damage resistance debuffs, greatly increase every single one's damage. That results in you getting better DPS values while teamed (as in, fighting in a group) then while fighting alone.
So, you probably shouldn't get fixated on your numbers alone, if you look at them. But it can be a valuable aid to testing new builds, more objectively judge your performance in a given encounter.
TOIVA, Toi Vaxx, Toia Vix, Toveg, T'vritha, To Vrax: Bring in the Allegiance class. Toi'Va, Ti'vath, Toivia, Ty'Vris, Tia Vex, Toi'Virth: Add Tier 6 KDF Carrier and Raider. Tae'Va, T'Vaya, To'Var, Tevra, T'Vira, To'Vrak: Give us Asylums for Romulans.
So from the sounds of it parsers are ok but DPS meters are not. Which parsers would people suggest?
Very surprisingly, the link in this post still works: http://sto-forum.perfectworld.com/showpost.php?p=4192086&postcount=2
That one I use the most as I can compare up to dozens of different combatlog files at once. It's very basic, but serves its purpose.
You'll find a 0.2 version on the net, but I¨ve never been able to make it work, so I stayed with 0.1.
Then there's the ACT that I've never used and probably some more.

I've tried both Advanced Combat Tracker and Combat Log Reader. I've had better results with CLR since it is specifically coded for STO. CLR was a breeze to set up, has standardized settings for DPS forum uploads, and doesn't seem to have as many damage assignment errors as ACT.
Combat log parsers (ACT, others) provide a snapshot reference to the dps you generate.
They are 'accurate' only in the sense of how you test. Outcomes are varied based upon:
1.) your build.
2.) your team mates.
3.) your skill level.
4.) whether or not you shoot at things that get damaged, but never destroyed. Shooting a gate for example counts as 'damage' even though it doesn't drop until all the gens are destroyed.
This (#4) is why you can get the mega-dps values you sometimes see. Anything over 15K is all show.

Using a parser is ok because it simply reads the combat log and compiles it.
They are great for measuring the average dps over a run therefore great for parsing beams but **** when measuring cannons and torpedoes.
Also, it is a lot of work to set up for logging a boss fight.

I thought WoW's forums had angry elitist snobs, but I never could have imagined the level STO forums has.
I tested a build in ISE and got 8k DPS however same build in sb24 and I had 3k DPS and I got first place.
I'm trying a new build that is more utility than pure DPS and I feel like I'm performing better. Its just a shame that sto is all about damage.
Parsers do the entire run...this includes when your not hitting anything

This is a second one i sometimes look at: http://sto-forum.perfectworld.com/showpost.php?p=14042121&postcount=1
It's a more complex one with plenty settings, the advantage is it seems alive and still being updated.
