Here's an idea, what if there was a holodeck on the Captain's table, where you could go to Vic's lounge?
I'd like to know what Vic is up to lately, and it would be cool to see that his program has relocated to the Captain's table. Once inside his program, there could be a series of small repeatable daily missions that allow the player to interact with Vic and help him with his 1960s Las Vegas problems.
I'm talking small content- just some little things that draw people there for a special perk- the busboy called in sick, so Vic needs you to run around the lounge and clean up dishes- Vic's pianist is late for his set, run through the lounge and find him before they have to take stage- Vic's accounting isn't adding up, go through his books and solve some basic math problems to straighten things out. Stuff like that.
Rewards for completing this can be latinum, vanity items, player titles, and the like- nothing that gives you power in missions, just cosmetic stuff.
As per the novel Vic's program is still active at Quark's.
STO is about my Liberated Borg Federation Captain with his Breen 1st Officer, Jem'Hadar Tactical Officer, Liberated Borg Engineering Officer, Android Ops Officer, Photonic Science Officer, Gorn Science Officer, and Reman Medical Officer jumping into their Jem'Hadar Carrier and flying off to do missions for the new Romulan Empire. But for some players allowing a T5 Connie to be used breaks the canon in the game.
Practically speaking, it would require the art team to develop 1950s-style decor, from floor to ceiling, including furniture, glasses, bottles, and clothing. All for a zone which the majority of players can't access.
And the majority of those who can access it probably won't.
And the assets are highly unlikely to be used in any other map.
So yeah, it's a cool idea (I'm a HUGE DS9 fan), but it's likely not a good use of dev time.
...talking to players is like being a mall Santa. Everyone immediately wants to tell you all of the things they want, and you are absolutely powerless to deliver 99% of them.

It would also require James Darren to give permission for his image to be used in the game - and you are probably going to want him voiced as well, which means even more expense.

The sad thing is, my idea for the Captain's Table is to skew even older, and make it some kind of 19th Century hole in the wall, or some kind of pastiche of many different time periods. This fits with the lore from the novels, but suffers from the same problem I'd mention earlier - development of assets that would almost certainly never be used again.
Unless the devs wanted to do a series of time travel episodes to various eras, which I certainly wouldn't object to. :P

Not sure if they can get james Darren for Voicework, though.
IF they do, it would be great if he'd actually be on stage performing songs. XD
Be great if you could do "requests" for latinum. :P
