I know most of you won't care, to you I say, proceed to the next thread. I just dusted off STO a few days ago and really do enjoy it, but a few things are already pushing me away again.
1) Time consumnig Grinds, I know they have been discussed to death, but while not unique to STO, they are VERY blatant...reps...marks...DOffs...marks...etc
2) Punished for playing alts. I always feel like I'm TRIBBLE myself if I play any character other than my main. Since the grinds are all character specific...well you do the math.
3) "Forced to play". I know, no one is holding a gun to my head, but I feel like if I'm not doing all my rep/doff projects daily, I'm TRIBBLE myself over.
I don't expect these to change due to the PW influence in the game, grinds are just the way Asian MMOs are.
The sad thing is, I really do love the story content of the game. And STO does have one thing that moves it miles ahead in my mind, it is one of the most solo friendly MMOs there is. Yes, I'm one of those mutants who prefers to solo in MMOs.
No real point to this post, just venting a bit about a game I want to love.
You are an LTS. You come and go as you please. If you want to take 6 months off, you can; and then come right back and start all over again until you get bored. That is the beauty of FTP games - let alone having an LTS.
And sometimes tastes change. I have left dozens of games over the last 17 years. Some I returned to, some I never went back to because they no longer held my interest. Sometimes things just are not right for your personal needs no matter how much you wish they were. That is just the way things go. The flaw is in assuming that X will always be perfect for you or that you will always be the same and want the same things years down the road.
You make of the game what you will. I have 16 characters, only 1 of them does the Rep. I never repeat anything I do not wish to do. The fact that you feel you need to do all these grinds is entirely on you. The game is not forcing you to do it. Accept that you are the master of your own fate. Life will be better when you do.
There is a new free Expansion Pack coming out at the end of the year. Maybe something there will be more to your liking. Until then happy gaming in whatever games you play.
STO is about my Liberated Borg Federation Captain with his Breen 1st Officer, Jem'Hadar Tactical Officer, Liberated Borg Engineering Officer, Android Ops Officer, Photonic Science Officer, Gorn Science Officer, and Reman Medical Officer jumping into their Jem'Hadar Carrier and flying off to do missions for the new Romulan Empire. But for some players allowing a T5 Connie to be used breaks the canon in the game.
gather marks for 5 rep projects (obviously not all 5 every day)
DOffing
Any Exchange stuff you need to do
STFs for BNPs
Battlezone for those Undine things.
Yeah, I'd like to see your definition of the basics. I'm going to assume it means on days you don't need to do the actual grinds.
Sometimes it's just better to go quietly, and take some time off.
When you broadcast it, you draw the ire of the Cryptic defense force.
A.K.A. The most rabid fanboi's.
I get it, take some time off, play another game for awhile.
I needed to last season.

This is exactly the case. When I get tired of the grind I doff and do nothing else. Or you could just let it go for awhile. Or you could doff and run a mission here and there - just spend a few hours a week. It is impossible for any video game not to become boring after you have done everything 1000 times over. Season 9 is kind of like a big MEH - but as Cosmic said - in another 3-4 months we get another expansion so that might give you another couple hundred hours of play.
Where is this Cryptic Defense Force? All I see is regular forum posters that have some minor problems with the game, but find it overall enjoyable and the completely spiteful forum posters that are never happy with anything that Cryptic does.
As far as the OP goes, everyone needs a break. I know I had to take a serious break from the game after I was done with the Omega Reputation.
I agree with the original poster on it all and am considering cutting back on the amount of time I play sto. I have 7 characters and all of them are played equally (cuz I'm an EEO employer :P). I wish I could transfer all the bound items/non-item stuff/accolades/time I put into them and simplify to just having 3 characters or less. Kind of my own fault for biting off more than I can now chew (but that was before they put in the rep system). I don't really like grinds or mmo's but it's the nature of the business and I use sto to get at the star trek part (see Voyager episode "Scorpion"). I fear that sto cannot change things enough to extend my final chapter of sto as it approaches. So I quote the last line from DS9's last episode "What You Leave Behind" (which in this case is sto) "The more things change, the more they stay the same.".

Because no one gives a damn if 1 person is upset :O
The grind does get tiring, OP. Grind only as much as you want to - don't push yourself.
As for me, I made an automatic way to distract myself from the grind here. I finally got off my lazy rear end and bought Minecraft, so I have that to play with. The point is, play as much or as little as you want so that the game is fun to come to.

p.s. no one can haz my stuff if I ever quit.
I started season 9 with the mass execution of half my Alts. I have 1 main in each faction. All of them are camping on a ton of XI rep gear bound to them.None of my alts can touch that gear, even though I started grinding the reps for them. I have to say, getting rid of 6 alts felt liberating. like a giant weight of neglect guilt was lifted. It was sad to make characters to play, and then just use them as resource farming monkeys for fleet projects. That wasn't my intention when I made them.It is a lot more fun only having a few characters I have a history with, logging in, and actually "playing" them.

I have only 3 characters. One of each faction and each one is a different career. I can't understand why some people have 15 level 50s with 10 of them having tier 5 in everything. Variety is the spice of life and life is too short to run the same content over and over and over and over and over again.
Are they expecting a farewell party?
A romantic begging, something like "stay with me"?
Do they expect the game will quit functioning, or the clock will stop if they leave?
Seeking for some attention?
Inquiring minds would like to know.
Grinding for MkIV epic gear?

Exactly. It's a so common rant thread that I don't care anymore.
I'll make sure to pass along your feedback, but as "I quit" threads are not allowed because they always turn into flame threads where the poster gets trolled, I unfortunately have to close this one down. Remember, now that the game is free-to-play, feel free to stop back anytime. We hope to see you again soon! ~Askray

No.
Because I need it to drop in and do FEs and maybe holiday events.
Yeah, I'd like to know what you call the basics?
5 rep projects to setup
gather marks for 5 rep projects (obviously not all 5 every day)
DOffing

Battlezone for those Undine things.

Hm, I didn't include the marks, sorry
I only included Doffing, exchange, and rep stuffs
