I got a music of star trek cd for my birthday back in the early 2000's, i listened to it a couple of times, enjoyed it, and then put it away in a drawerand then forgot about it
flash forward to 2014.
I recently found the CD while rummaging through said drawer.
I have seen the option in STO for using you own music in the audio options tab, but have balked at using it because the only options are for winamp and itunes
I stopped using winamp after AOL ruined ICQ, Netscape and (imo) winamp.
And I also refuse to sell me soul to the evil Apple empire and install itunes.
so i was wondering if there was a way to add another mediaplayer, in my case Windows Media Player, to the player list in STO. I would prefer just to use the CD than haviing to burn MP3's of the CD. if there is a way to get the music player to play the CD instead of MP3, WMA or whatever that would be great.
Anyone have any ideas or suggestions?

I don't really use it much, as i like STO's music, but from what I've used of it's works decently enough, although i would rebind the keys as the default combinations are a little complicated if you are in the middle of battle!
Personally, i have them set to my numberpad but i guess you can set them to whatever you like!

it has been a realy long time since i have played any music on my pc, but i don't think you can create a playlist for CD tracks. i will have to double check. but if the builtin custom music thing no longer work, the whole thing might be mute.

it happened quite a while ago. i forget exactly what the deal was either AOL bought NullSoft, or bought rights to the software, either way, yeah AOL owns the winamp.
after what did to turned netscape, (the one of the first web browsers for consumer use, b4 IE even OS it was first on was windows 3.1) after AOL bought netscape, they maintained it for a while but then started pulling all sorts of shenanigans. at the end, right before they stopped making netscape they scrapped all the innards and started using what was (then) s buggy version of what would eventually turn into firefox. after two bad versions and a version withdrawl, they killed netscape navigator. after AOL, they also started doing "value-added bundling" -- read useess software you did not want or ask for.
AOL pulled similiar TRIBBLE with ICQ which back in the day (starting with win95) was a really great instant messenger. first they broke up ICQ into components. and then they invalidated the old versions of ICQ, and started charging people for various compnents of the software, which used to be included with ICQ and free. then they added the give us mone and we will remove ads from your icq client. gimmick, previously there were no ads in ICQ. it had been 100% free. also the last time i used ICQ it tried to install what was then a blleding edge emerging threat, SPYWARE!! I don't know if ICQ is still around or not, but i bet it isn't any better than it was before AOL got it's hands on it.
then theres winamp. I havent even looked at winamp since aol bought it, but i bet there is now a "premium" version of winamp. i bet it also has ads now too. Winamp used to be for the most GPL. and it was 100% free and just about every plugin was free too.
I used winamp back when the mp3 format was the newest thing on the block. everyone that had a 56k modem was downloading mp3s "it's like a wav file but better. you can listen to the music while it is downloading" -- qoute from friend long ago.
streaming mp3 had yet to hit the scene, so this was big news at the time among those my age.
anyway i am willing to bet that the winamp i know was better than todays winamp by aol

You might be able to use foobar2000 with the foo_winamp_spam component (or similar) to allow control from within the game. I haven't tested this, so I can't say if it will work or not but it's worth a try.

I use Winamp and it still works with STO. I don't know what's wrong with Winamp - I didn't even know that they were affiliated with AOL.
