Why can't Kit visuals be used in the Foundry?

Since Season 9 went live and the kit visuals were (not entirely) moved into the costume system, they still are not available for use in the Foundry.

From my experience, normally things like this automatically become available for use there when they go live elsewhere, unless specifically "turned off" for the Foundry by one or more of the devs, like the Vesta was when it leaked during its development. (Which still doesn't show up visually despite being available.)

Same goes for the Undine ships and Lobi Store armor costume, which I take it aren't available there for the same reason; forcibly turned off in the Foundry to prevent leaks.

These are invaluable assets now that they're available on the live server, and it isn't fair to have them still be locked out for use even after going live. Same goes for the other Reputation and Lobi Store costume pieces.

Move this to the Foundry Discussion & Feedback or Art and Costumes subforum if need be, just so long as this gets seen by a member of the team and passed along to someone who can do something about it.

    ( though i did notice that the gamma armor suit was added i think, not sure 100 percent but i think i saw it in the foundry list when i was looking for new stuff)

    Yeah, we got the bare armor but not much else.

    I'm pretty sure that this stuff can't be accessed right now because someone has to "hard lock" the stuff out of the Foundry when things are first developed in order to prevent leaks. However, these locks tend not to get removed after the items in question are released.

    In the case of the Vesta, it looks like someone dealt with the leak by just deleting the model (which previously showed up as a transparent colorless mesh) and leaving the lights, which hasn't been put back despite the ship being enabled for use in the Foundry costume maker.

    I take it that in the case of things like the kit and armor costume pieces, they were just locked out of the Foundry entirely during development of Season 9.

    Same as the Andorian ships, scimitar line, ALL 25th century refits, about 60% of all available costumes and uniforms.

    Yep.

    It seems like the main reason why it takes a lot of work to do is because they have to forcibly lock the stuff out of the Foundry when it's made, to prevent leaks during development.

    Really a shame, as all of that stuff would be completely invaluable if they unlocked it again after stuff releases. Especially if people want to make missions that involve current starships and characters with current uniforms, such as Starfleet's new standard uniform introduced in Season 9.

    I think it is the other way around. As I understand it, with adding things to the Foundry that are in game already, a lot of it is not that it is purposefully locked out, it is that to become available in the Foundry at all, a completely separate copy has to be made and then hooked into the Foundry, which requires dev time (hours, we've been told) that by and large, someone has chosen not to schedule.

    There are some things in the character creator that translate to the Foundry costume creator automatically, such as the new Season 9 heads and complexions.

    That we've been getting periodic ships copied over is all we get lately, and I think maybe that is still someone (Zeronius Rex, last I heard) doing that in their spare time.

    So, why can't kit visuals be available in the Foundry? Because no one has hooked them up.

    I'd forgotten about that. Thanks.

    No wonder not much has been hooked up or re-enabled, depending on what each item's situation is. I only hope that they have some time available at some point to work at a decent chunk of that. Hope things go well enough for the rest of the development that they can afford that time.

    Well, while that's been implied, we know it isn't that simple because most new stuff has shown up in the Foundry as a leak and quickly got pulled, never to get re-added.

    The default for new costume assets seems to be that they are in the Foundry and Cryptic removes them.

    Maps/props are different. Those have to be manually populated.
