Make shields/deflectors/engines give ship costume parts

Basically, make it work like the thing with ground costumes that was just added-- so that if you have all the pieces of a space set, you can unlock extra parts to use in the ship customizer to make your ship look however you want.

Certain consoles, and said defelctor/shield/engine parts can still be right clicked on in the ship screen and have the enable/disable option. Totally not needed any other way.

Those are mostly color changes. I would also like to see the option to switch out visually the parts we change on the paper doll. They show us square deflectors, circular ones, oval ones. Lets see those on the actual ships. There are a lot of different warp nacelle shapes on the shows. Lets add different grills and collectors to our ships' engines. It'd be fun.

Yes, but Cryptic has been moving everything else like this over to the costume system. Reputation and Lobi Store armors for Ground, Kits and regular armors, etc. Pretty-much the only thing left at this point that hasn't been moved over to the costume system are starship gear visuals.

It would be odd to leave this the one remaining thing in the game not migrated over.

Besides, moving this over would allow for even more diverse options to be created later on down the line, like they can now do with Reputation gear and kits for ground characters.

The answer I got when I pitched the idea was that it can't be done

Maybe someday, but seems unlikely in the near future. I would rather have deflectors separated from ship skins first.

Can't confirm, so there's a really good chance I'm remembering wrong, but I thought I heard that they could do this with the shield visuals that affect the hull (basically, it would be like changing the ship material - Material 1, Material 2, Assimilated, Nukara, etc.), but they can't do it with engine, deflector, or console visuals, so they're either not doing it, or putting it off until they can get those figured out.

Well, at least they have it working for starship separation. The visual bits all display on other sections when a ship is separated, even the ones that don't modify the hull. I take it that they set up some kind of "global application" for section "pets", based on the "parent ship".

With the work they've done with ground gear visuals, even kits, surely it would be possible. I just hope that it's something they can deem feasible enough to implement, as there's a LOT of potential with it if they did.

They could actually sell starship customization bits in the Z-Store and Lobi Store, just like they do currently with ground costume pieces. They could even have some received from Reputations, like how it works currently for ground gear sets.

I asked in the tribble section of the forums when the current tailor changes were being tested. Dev response was something about it requiring a complete update of the ship tailor and being extremely unlikely within the foreseeable future. Too lazy to link it.

TLDR: Buried Dev response: "Don't hold your breath"

That's a shame, then, as there's a lot of potential if they did do it.

Yeah, When the Elite fleet shield is as good as it is. Why use anything else?
So they need to come up with a way, that alone woulkd make people grind for a shield they only want for the skin options.

Just got a Dyson shield last night. Love the way it looks on the Fleet DD. Gonna run it for awhile, But sad that I had to remove a better shield to enjoy the looks of this one. lol
