Favourite passive Rep traits for space.

My favourite is the Auxiliary->Defense trait. It is simply amazing if you keep your Aux at maximum. In fact, it does the work of three other Rep space traits. The ones that add 10% hull, 10% shield and 10% damage resistance. Aux-Defense does all that in one trait. I think what I'm really trying to say with this thread is that some Rep space traits are completely worthless when compared to others. Yep, that's it.

While not all Rep Traits are created equal (even insofar as choosing one over the other in a given situation)...er...the above is not quite right.

Auxiliary Power Configuration - Defense provides the following at 125 Aux Power:
    +25 Kinetic Damage Resistance Rating
+25 All Energy Damage Resistance Rating
    +6.2% Maximum Hit Points (Hull)
    +6.2% Maximum Shield Capacity

The +25 DRR is going to be subject to the typical diminishing returns of damage resistance. What you see will vary dependent upon how much DRR you've already got.

Yep, the +6.2% is adding ~6.2% of your base hull and base shield cap...at 125 Aux.

That's in comparison to the Fortified Hull which provides +7.5% base hull regardless of Aux and the Enhanced Shield Systems which provides +10.0% base shield cap regardless of Aux.

Are the benefits of Aux Power Config - Defense perhaps too high in regard to the hull and shield cap boosts? Yeah, but they're not as high as is being suggested which should leave it without question they would be too high.

Also, the +10 All Damage Bonus Resistance Rating from Advanced Hull Reinforcement does not work in the same manner that Damage Resistance Rating does. rbaker82 came along and did some awesome math magics in this thread: http://sto-forum.perfectworld.com/showthread.php?t=1077191

Linked the entire thread instead of just his/her posts to show where we were trying to get to bottom of it...and then bam...deux ex machina and all that.

Course, if you're running the 125 Aux...then the +6.2% Accuracy and +6.2% All Damage tends to call out "take me too!" while you're at it.

It would be nifty if they talked a little more about the balancing process - the train of thought - that went into each of these having their particular numbers, because not all Rep Traits are created equal...perhaps there's something we're overlooking where they are balanced, but we just don't see it? Or...they're just not balanced...

The Aux->___ Traits are nice supplements to high Aux Builds like Sci Vessels and Carriers. But as VD pointed out, they're not as OP as it may seem. Great example as he showed is the diminishing returns of the DRR. So, even at full 125 aux, it comes out to half a Neutronium console in terms of resists, if even that.

Still, the Defense / Offense do bring a myriad of boosts to high Aux ships. They're worth it, but they're not OP.
