Gear That Scales with You

I'm pretty new to STO, and I just can't seem to make total sense of some of the stats on weapons when comparing them. So, here's my question...

Are the ground and ship weapons that scale in strength (they have a small infinity symbol in the lower right corner) when you level up as good, better, or worse than weapons of the same approximate level that you find or are rewards from missions?

They are decent, around the same power as one for your current level, but at end game the MK XII gear you can get outclass them easily.

They dont. They are just different weapons. Infinite class weapons are just rare weapons, thats the only difference. But some of em are more useful than regular mkII weapons. Others arent, but in terms of strentght all the weapons at level 50 are much alike. Rare weapons are more focused to specific circnustances or specific enemies, but they are useful the same way a mkii weapon is. BUT of course not all of em. There are some "inifinite" weapons that are just stupid, but only because cryptic didnt have more imagination on em lol.

These items scale based on your rank, which means they will be roughly equivalent to an odd MK number of the same quality, and at max level they supposedly only scale to MK X vs MK XII being the highest available. Most of the MK ∞ is specialized as a reward for a story arch or a Zen store "gimmick" console/item, but they can be built into some interesting loadouts.

    0-9 - equivalent to mk I.
10 to 19 - equivalent to mk III.
    20 to 29 - equivalent to mk V.
30 to 39 - equivalent to mk VII.
40 to 49 - equivalent to mk IX.
    Lvl 50 - equivalent to mk X.

ETA - Mk XII stuff is usable from lvl 40.
