1. how are you suppose to tell front from back of ship?
2. ships are too big (about the size of 2-3 Scimitar's)
3. move too slow at impulse.
can't think of other reason's but plz list.
only borg ship that might be possible is probe, only one that has a front and back lol.
Some issues.
If you've played Star Trek Armada or Star Trek Legacy, the Cubes fly in a bizarre but very cool manner: they don't have a front or back, but simply travel in the direction they want to. There is no turning required to fly in a desired direction, it just "happens". Meanwhile, the Cube (appearance) rotates CW or CCW to add some eery element to its motion. If a game from 2001 can do it, so can STO.
STO has few issues with large ships already - especially if it sells. I suppose Cubes would have to either be scaled down (No....) or placed in a different instance, to avoid getting stuck in other ships.
Slow means little when you are a moving weapons platform.

Hey, people already have trouble knowing front from back with Undine ships...
Size is the real problem because the camera just doesn't play nice with size, and you will probably run in serious issues on some maps - getting stuck on geography alwas sucks. (JUst ask the Borg Cubes in Ker'rat).
Star Trek Online Advancement: You start with lowbie gear, you end with Lobi gear.

1. You dont. Fortunately its the game who handles where the ships is looking at. And you can know that just looking at your ship ui. And that will be another handicap of the borg cube.
But this will happen not only in the cube, but in the sphere, pyramid or watever form they want to introduce as playable ship.
2. Yes, they are big. But that is not a problem. Right now, bigger ships overlap with the skill try, and that is not a problem (it is for me, but i asked time ago and people seem to be ok with that). A cube will be just bigger, thats all. Cryptic will just increase the camera zoom ant thats it.
And if you get stucked cuz your ship is too big, bad luck. Happened to me piloting the haakona, scimiar or any other big ship. The problem is not really the ship..
3. Same as any other ship, i dont see the issue about the impulse thing. Borg cubes could include a impulse bonus. But i dont see the reason for that. Other species are as fast as the borg and they dont have extra impulse boosts.
I WILL HATE to have a borg lockbox, but im afraid it will come, because the undine one is already here. If we have undine ships, the borg will be perfectly possible. In fact, piloting an undine ship should be harder than a borg cube. Mostly because the circuitery of the borg cube is more easy to learn than the undine organic erm, circuitery or watever is called lol.
So, yes borg ships are perfectly possible, and since they will sell A LOT (unfortunately) i am pretty sure they will come sooner rather than later.
Also, in STO Borg Cubes can't move up and down, simply because there is no direct movement in the vertical axis possible... :P
I remember in bridge commander there was a z axis. In multiplier matches it always looked weird seeing ships upside down and sideways. We tend not to think about how in space there is no up and down. XD
that's the reason STO limits freedom of movement, so you don't get all turned around.
Everywhere I look, people are screaming about how bad Cryptic is.
What's my position?
That people should know what they're screaming about!
(paraphrased from "The Newsroom)

Hence the reason for such commands like, enemy ship bearing 090 mark 24.
Bring us about ensign heading 270 mark 336, and prepare to fire aft torpedoes.

It does not.. you can be fighting a ship in the forward and be looking at your back all the time.. of course that is the free camera. If you use other camera type, its different.
I would so toss money at this game for the opportunity to fly a borg ship... I would love to get my hands on a diamond... or even a sphere...
Eventually I hope to see a Borg Faction as playable and being the new progenitors of war... Since we are now under a cease fire truce with the Klingons.. the only "war" we have now is with the undine and the voth... but those are not playable...
I imagine at least half the game would buy into a Borg faction and it would attract more players to the game who love playing the bad guy...

Okay, then welcome to no sidequests, no exploration, no customization, no sandbox. You are drone Four of Six Adjunct to Unimatrix Who-Gives-A-TRIBBLE, one of a couple hundred thousand just like you.
You have no free will. You have no individuality. You serve the Collective. Your only combat tactic is to walk slowly towards the enemy like a TRIBBLE zombie, ignoring armed away teams beaming onto your ship and dying in droves as soon as the away team remodulates.
Does this sound like fun to you?

Ummm, Borg do explore, Drones are customized to serve their purpose efficiently, they do prioritize objectives.
And there is always the possibility of a playable liberated Borg faction, which was actually mentioned at some point.
And really, how much free will do our characters have right now ? Mission progression is rather linear.
I'm not saying we absolutely have to have a Borg faction or that I want one, but lack of imagination is not a productive counter-argument.
Ummm, Borg do explore, Drones are customized to serve their purpose efficiently, they do prioritize objectives.
But they don't do it on their own. The hive mind controls their every move. The individual drone has no control over the customization, exploration, or prioritization of objectives.
And really, how much free will do our characters have right now ? Mission progression is rather linear.
And we're free to ignore it entirely and level with sidequests and Foundry missions. You thought STO was linear before? You'll hate playing as a Borg.

First:
Ship control.
Right now we control our ships despite 99% of the work is done by crewman and officers.
So controling borg ships only remove the:
You are in charge part.
Second:
Being part of the collective is merely a small change in story telling.
So instead of:
Capitan these orion raiders have attacked an trader vessle.
We shoud render assistance.
This ship will be assimilated.
Cube(insert ship name here)
Engage target and assimilate the crew.
It is really a mather of just threating you like a drone rather then being in charge.
The gameplay and story dont need to mix.
Ground combat:
Drones 1 of 9 to 9 of 9 beam down to grid 486 and assimilate spieces 5244
This member of spieces 5389 seem to be in charge of grid 486.
Assimilate her.
As for clothing.
While a few changes in implants here and there.
Nothing unborg like.
I remember in bridge commander there was a z axis. In multiplier matches it always looked weird seeing ships upside down and sideways. We tend not to think about how in space there is no up and down. XD
A pity i have to say. Free movement is one of the things i'd really love to have in the game (and that we are never going to have)
BTW, something i'd also really love to see would be Federation/Klingon/Romulan Assimilated ships that have somehow been freed from the collective and that have made their way into a lockbox.
Hence the reason for such commands like, enemy ship bearing 090 mark 24.

A borg cube is by far way too huge, it would get stuck everywhere.
For a player ship it would need to be shrunk down considerably, then it would have to be balanced to be fairly competitive with other ships in the game, so would be limited in armor, weapons mounts, consoles slots, etc. In other words it would be nerfed to hell.
An actual Borg faction, unlike what some would claim, would not be easy to implement, the Borg have no alliances and no economy and are hostile with every other faction in the game, even neutral ports would be hostile to them, so there is no way to fit them into STOs current mission structure. An entire story line, Borg safe zones and Borg ports of call would have to be created to carry Borg players all the way from level 1 to level 50, pretty much an entire game, just so players can be slaves of the collective.
A Liberated Borg Faction has a much higher probability because such a faction can work with the games existing alliances and economy and use the existing mission structure once players have leveled sufficiently.
If something is not broken, don't fix it, if it is broken, don't leave it broken.
We already have the assimilated ships, what more do you want?
Personally I think flying borg ships would be incredibly boring.
I dont think starfleet have heard of the protocol.. erm, i dont think cryptic have heard about doing funny things.
STO is 75% more boring now that it was 6 months ago, and "growing"..
Anyways, people dont realize that you CANT ask for a Borg faction and then, say that you DONT WANT playable cubes... ¿?. If the main ship is not a cube.. wtf?? lol.

That's far from the most troubling thing about them.
Cool and amazing, my foot.
