In my previous post
http://sto-forum.perfectworld.com/showthread.php?t=1104681, I learned there are no other frigates for the Jem Hadar Dred Carrier besides the Attack Ships. They are now going for 450+ mil each. I mean you have to have an attack ship before you can buy the frigate versions.
I need to find a way to earn some cash. I have no interest in buying from a gold farm. This account is a lifetime sub, plus I just don't like to do that.
I read about one trick where you earn/buy dilithium and then sell the unreplicable materials, but that just takes forever. Any other strategies to earn a lot of credits. oh. I also know about farming the "farm" missions. That will earn me between 300-450k a day.
Other suggestions?

Running the daily Tour the Universe, doing Tau Dewa Patrol, etcetera is just not going to get you anywhere.
You only have one realistic option: keys. Get a pretty big amount of dilithium, convert it to zen, buy keys. Youll need around 200 keys (the rest will come from other loot, earned during the STF farming for dilithium).
Assuming you can grind 2 characters the 9000 refining cap/day you have as a lifetimer with access to a T2 dil mine (hrough fleet map invites or your own mine), that is gonna take you roughly 160 days.
Ofcourse, you can always go for the jackpot lottery and try to get a lockbox ship. Those sell for roughly 90 mill. That makes the journey a lot shorter......... if you are lucky.
All up to you. If I'd ever get a carrier, I'd simply stick with fighters myself. Or probably sell it before unboxing.

I have 9 characters (3 are my mains, 6 are farm characters).
You can run farming missions on each and that can net around 4 million EC a day (with 9 characters) if you are lucky. If you have KDF characters you can get contraband from marauding missions and sell unreplicateable materials using dilithium.
You can also do Tour The Galaxy but that got nerfed a while back so the payout these days isn't anywhere as good.

Those listed above are the typical ways to get a lot of EC. If you have many characters then it will be quicker but you have to invest time to get the EC.
What you could also do is score in the 1st place in Crystalline Catastrophe. You will likely get a purple quality mk 11 or mk 12 item which can sell for a couple million EC. This method will require luck.
Another method is to participate in the livestream (http://twitch.tv/perfectworld_community). The community manager will ask viewers to type a word in chat. They then randomly select a user and that user wins something. So far I have won 5000 zen and a Voth Bulwark Cruiser. With this ship I have earned maybe a couple hundred million EC, but this method also requires a lot of luck.
The quickest method is to spend real money on Lockbox Keys and sell them on the exchange.

Actually you're better off just opening up the dominion lock boxes and hoping you get the attack ship from them. You can do it with dil saved up and converted to zen. Just over 2 days worth of dil, will buy you a key. or you can buy keys with EC off the exchange.

Yes, I'm having a real problem with that thought as well. Thanks for all the suggestions, folks. I'll tuck them away and keep them. ;-)
Alrighty, so you have millions of fleet credits, just floating around...collecting dust with nothing to spend it on...your fleet may or not be tier 5...so you just keep ramping up the credits.
What you do is, get invited or get access to a tier 5 engineering fleet. Go to the fleet doff requistioner and buy as many very doff requisitions as you can.
What happens here is that you open them all and gamble for very rare technicians or warp core engineers.
All other "worthless" Purple doffs get broken down....hopefully into more "lucrative" blue doffs.
Sell for profit and may lady luck smile on you.
Chance of a very rare technician is about 1/5. Packs cost about 37k.
I hope this helps someone...

This is only true to the extent that people have more money than sense; I have NEVER bought a key on the exchange, and NEVER will, simply because they are NOT worth millions of EC. The better choice is DOff trading, because there is actual value in rare DOff's, and lockboxes are a gamble, at best. That said, I have never been able to stockpile more than a few million EC, mostly becuase the reputation system required lots of commodity expenditures. Now that system has been devalued, so commodities are no longer required, and my fortunes may increase somewhat, although fleet provisions still require large EC expenditures.
Otherwise, it may be better to build your stock of Lobi & buy your ship there...

if you don't then just hit the STFe missions for them. get the roll with the 11 BNP and its an easy 4500 dilith, plus the 1000+ dilith from the STFe.
explore strange new worlds is giving up 2160 dilith right now also, to do while STFe's are on cool down.
Dominion lockboxes do not drop JHAS's, they come from Doff packs during timed events only.

I did farming foundry mission on 6-7 chars. You can expect 500k ec each.
Then I exchange dil for zen and bought some keys and opened lockbox.
I sold a galor, a tuffli, and many other stuff and in the end got 300 million for all. the rest was coming from doing pi-canis for kdf and tau dewa daily.
It took me times for sure so don't expect to have it quick, but it's doable with some work.
good luck

All great suggestions here. I can add 100 million every 3 weeks to my bank, using 6 toons with simple actions that don't take away from the gamings aspect:
1.) Work the exchange. Flip low ball items, scrap really low-ball pricing. Average days 400K per toon. Some days 2-5 million depending on the action. I usually do this while waiting between stfs's to form, or while chatting with fleetmates.
2.) Keys. Flip dill to zen, and zen to keys. NOW is a great time for this with a 50% bonus dil.
3.) KDF contraband farming. This is one of the better reasons to have a KDF toon - this weekend alone I will convert 500+ contraband saved up since the last dilithium weekend.
4.) Doffing. This can be hit (30 mill in one transaction) or miss. But generally about 5-8 million a week if you follow a decent doffing plan. Learn HOW TO doff from various online guides. Our fleet (dtfleet.com) has excellent resources.
5.) Foundry loot missions. 5 minutes = 400+ (average 600k) per toon per day.
Because its better to buy just the keys on the c-store, not in the exchange. At least i think.
Gathering 125 zen its ridiculous easy. With 2-3 alts you can do it every day. So you will have a key every day to sell. 2 if you have 5-6 alts. 3 if you have 9 alts.
This is a waste of time most of the times. Its better to just enjoy the game and to a few missions here and there while you farm dilithium or something else. You will be gathering the same ammount of EC.
In almost exactly one month, from brand new newbie to now, I managed to acquire 86 million liquid EC, about another 20-25 million in items I may or may not want to sell plus another I think 16 million worth of items posted on the exchange but not yet sold. This is about 125 million give or take. About 60 million of this came from $20 spent on lockbox keys, the rest from the exchange.
I originally bought keys for like 1.9 - 2.0 million to stay under the 10 million cap limit, but sometime I hit that limit and lost ECs on things listed on the Exchange... but that's a totally different story. Before finally deciding to buy the EC Cap Remover, I managed to collect 14 keys from the Exchange. If key's are really worth 2.7 million ECs now, then I can make a tidy little profit by selling 'em on the Exchange.
But I digress a bit... I don't know if the value of keys are currently over inflated or not, but buying keys through the combination of direct purchase of Zen using real money and also using refined dilithium to convert to Zen should mean that you can eventually make 450 million ECs.
Holding on to the keys or selling them immediately is your choice. If the prices of key on the Exchange continues to increase then you make a "profit" compared to selling it immediately. However, if you decide to hold onto the keys and listed price of the keys on the Exchange decreases then you just lost some value.
Let's just say I bought all my keys at the beginning of March for 2 million ECs each to stay under the EC cap limit of 10 million ECs. Based on the statement that keys are currently selling for 2.7 million ECs. That means I have an unrealized profit of 9.8 million ECs. In about a span of 2 month the value of my keys has increased by 35%...
Now if I can only manage that type of gain in a real stock market...
L2Contraband.
mackermomo, since your toon is a KDF aligned Romulan, then contraband is generally a good way to earn ECs.
The selling price of contraband varies on the Exchange. I have seen them sell for between 40k and 55k each. Contraband come by very easily for the KDF faction. My KDF toon has almost 500 contraband in the bank inventory. That takes into consideration the fact that I also turn in contraband for the dilithium reward.
It still takes time to earn millions of EC with contraband, but since they are fairly easy to get with a KDF faction toon. I recommend you get as many green or blue Doffs as possible of the types listed below. Note that since there are fewer people playing KDF, prices can be high. For example a blue Security Officer or Tractor Beam Officer can cost between 300k and 400k+. However the green versions might only cost 50k to 100k.
Energy Weapon Officer
Projectile Weapon Officer
Security Officer
Assault Squad Officer
Armory Officer
Tractor Beam Officer
Transporter Office
As you know the higher the quality of the Doff the better your chances of getting critical success which means the more likely you can get lots of contraband. A normal success generally gives you just 1 contraband, however not every marauder mission will guarantee you will receive contraband. A critical success can reward you between 2 through 5 contraband. I never received more than 5 in a single mission.
Yes, a summer job. Fantastic. Where do you live? Hawaii? OMW It may snow in MT before the weekend. ;-)
I'm actually a casual player with a family and quite a demanding job. What I'm reading from all these fantastic responses is that I have 3 choices.
1. Forget about it because the investment is just too high, both in time or RL money. Of course, I could always get lucky with a c-store purchase the next time that ship is offered as a drop.
2. Use any or all of the clever ways people farm. Great suggestions, BTW.
3. Bite the bullet, wait for another 15% bonus zen, buy a boatload of Zen, convert to keys, sell them and wait until my wallet hits hundreds of millions.
The other possibility is that Cryptic will introduce another nice carrier while I save.
Special "thank you" to those who revealed their most secret methods of farming. I promise I won't tell.
Excellent idea all around. I'm going to save some money and start buying some of these doff types. Thanks again. This entire thread is a great resource for both beginning and veteran players alike.
You have to love the KDF and their "vices." ;-)
TRIBBLE yes it is! I never thought about the Fleet DOff idea for cash
I play STO pretty casually most of the time and I have built up my Doff roster pretty decently. One way to potentially save EC is to do the various ASYLUM missions that pop up from time to time. The quality of your recruit varies between green and purple. Additionally, the career of the Doff is random but this is an overall good way to build up your Doffs.
I generally spend about 2 or 3 hours playing my KDF toons and I goto the following sector blocks to search for various marauding missions like "Disable Freighter", "Pillage ....", "Attack illegal ...." and a few more. There also the military mission to "Inspect Civilian Freighter" and personal mission to "Search for Contraband" on your ship. After maxing out my Doff missions I simply grind dilithium or play main story missions.
Sector blocks:
Eta Eridani
Regulus
Pi Canis
Beta Ursae
Alpha Trianguli
Sirius (Earth sector) - Your maraudering commendation level must be 3. You need a total of 50k maraudering XP.
If I wake up early enough I log in, collect the rewards from completed missions overnight and set up as many new Doff missions as I can before heading out to work.
You can still make a fair bit off romulan officer candidates that have SRO, though the price on those is all over the place.
You can run crystal to take first place to get purple vendor trash, about 1/4 of which has value in the exchange. Last night I got a purple AP tac console worth almost 3 mil. Most of the drops are worth a few hundred K, some worth nearly nothing (no one wants purple cannon boosting consoles or sensor consoles or engines).
You can farm for it the old fashioned mob killing way, selling the best blue/purple stuff on exchange and vendor the rest.
You can DOFF some of it. Contraband for example... I make about 40 contra per day which is 1.5 mil /day roughly last time I priced it. You can also doff for playing card items (crafting / old rep/ etc items) which vendor nicely if you can't sell them (some are worth selling, some are not).
You can farm dil and sell keys/ship modules / other things in the exchange.
You can buy dill to buy keys to sell.... but thats a lot of real money.
Even if you make 10 mil / day you are in for over a month of burnout level farming.
