The idea here is outfit pieces in the tailor can give you all kind of stat boosts and change how the game plays out.
Armor: I had an old version of this idea but it was more of a way to punishment the bridge bunny players, this new version is better.
Each piece of clothing brings a boost to your combat armor stat. So if you want to run around the voth battlezone in next to nothing you would be showing people how good of a player you are. The boost of the pieces of clothing can be played with by the devs. The basic rule I would go with for the stat buffs is what looks like armor would give bigger boost then more "normal" clothes.
Formal/Undercover: In this game called Uncharted Waters Online you can't talk to some NPCs unless you have your Formal stat at some level. And to get into some cities you needed to have your Undercover stat at some level as well, I think this system could be fun in STO. Drake could sneak around First City so why not you? And the formal stat could help bring more of a "Trek" feeling people have been asking for.
So? What do you think? And remember "Clothes make the man/woman"
It also seems to be counter to what they're doing with the tailor, as they just made costume changes free.
With the tailor being free I don't see what would be the big deal with my idea? It would cost nothing to change into a sneak suit and walk around. Also it could be a good way for the company to make money. Put in new outfits that give good boosts to more then one stat.
One thing i like about STO compered to other MMOs is that i can have my Character look how I want, and wear what I want without it affecting my skills.
well ... like someone said ... having you're captain looks separated from the equipment status is a plus.
on top of all, people have been complaining about options that disappear occasionally from the tailor, and those bugs get fixed eventually but takes time.
to top it, linking the stats to the looks of a tailor that bugs out once in a wile, is a awful idea for practical reasons, as one bug would propagate thought the code and game, affecting the gameplay experience and then, people would come complain even harder, every time a tailor bug shows up.
this idea is awful because of implementation and practical reasons.
Just no. Linking stats to cosmetic pieces is a bad, bad thing. Suddenly everyone has to look the same, at least for a given type of mission, as everyone's chasing the FOTM set of stat bonuses.
Leave customization as it should be -- a feature that lets us create the look we like for our characters/ships, without being forced into the latest & greatest stat set.

This.
I want to look how I want, and not to have an incentive to use a costume or another one.
while i will add my voice to the chorus of 'no', i do think it would be kind of nifty if i could associate an outfit with a rep, doff, away team, and respec skills loadout of my own creation.
id love to be able to switch to my omega costume* to face the borg, change into my honour guard costume* to face the voth, and so on.
*costume, not ground set. im talking about the visual outfit here.

You already can. You can access your outfit quick switch by right clicking on your portrait, then load any saved outfit.

Definitelly glad I can have my Captain wear what I want, and make her appearance what I want it to be... instead of what most MMO's have.. an armor, which looks hideous, but has good stats.. so then I'm forced to pick between personal taste and efficiency...
Nah, keep things as they are, really. <.<

This is the only reason I don't play Neverwinter. :V
A few questions. How many people here maxed out their combat armor skill? How many go into battle in showing next to no skin? Anyone read the part of my silly idea where I said the devs would play around with the numbers. Anyone checked out the part where I laid out my simple rule on stat buffing? It is goes a little like this flesh>clothes>armor (ie no forcing players to all lookalike. The highest I would hope to see the boost be is +50 to combat armor)
edit: I forgot a question. Besides the Formal/Undercover system I copied from UWO what other games got a system like this?

I use the Adapted MACO armor the rare times I go into a ground battlezone.

Most of the time I use my uniform. Except for my Klingon, in KHG. Sometimes I use my MACO armor.
But then, I'm the odd guy who doesn't like to see half naked girl in MMOs. And try to make it realistic.
While I think things like swimsuit should be restricted to Risa, there is a limit to restriction. And force players to use an armor in combat is a bad idea.
Also, in ST, they never used an armor.
Sorry OP, I may be wrong here, but all I'm getting from your suggestion is that you want to try to force players to conform to how you think they should look, e.g. in a battlezone - wear visible armour.
But instead of saying that outright, you came up with a convoluted tailor system to try to condition people into wearing visible armour because it boosts their stats.
We don't need transmogrification we have something better: a customisation system that allows us to wear whatever armour sets we want, with the ability to change appearance on the fly.
Which, imo, is a much better system then having to customise armour sets with alternate visuals that we prefer.

Itemizing uniforms isn't an idea I'm a fan of.

Hard to believe I know.
(Helmets are for pussies though)

Encouraging MinMaxing is never a good idea.

I'm sorry diversity is such anathema to you. I'll try to conform more next time /sarcasm
