Think about it from their perspective. "How dare those primates call us space lizards?"

Well, we actually are primates, along with our fellow apes, monkeys, and lemurs, among others

However, being descended from dinosaurs, Voth are not lizards.

descended directly from lizards in a short space of time and evolved, however they are still lizards, just a bit more evolved (thankfully not trandoshan like). alligators and crocs have been on earth far far longer then a lot of other animals have evolved into other species, yet they are still lizards after billions of years.

we are still primates, still driven by our urges still, picking our nose, catching the scent of another compatible female, competing with each other for resources, fisticuffs between men and the like. just barely evolved monkeys as we are.

No, dinosaurs did not evolve from lizards. The two groups shared a common ancestor, but that was well before dinosaurs evolved. Dinosaurs are more closely related to crocodiles and birds.

See the phylogeny near the bottom of the page here.

Humans are primates, but are not monkeys. We're apes.

That's it, going to report the Voth for racism! Yeah they won't be so insultive any more once the cops come knocking on their sector space!

Racism. smacism. The only thing *truly* offensive about the "Kill all the primates!" line is the VO. Worst. Voice Actor. Ever.

Y he sai "You haven't seen the last of me, primates"? I no iz primate! I iz b kitteh! Stoopid dino. No wunder he iz extinct.

(The Lieutenant General is, as I've observed before, unusually articulate for a Ferasan.)

To be fair, the Voth don't really distinguish between which variety of space monkey they're stomping on. Though really, only the Humans are technically descended from primates. Saurians have more in common with skinks or gekkos, while Gorn are more crocodilian in many respects, and Rigellians/Chelon (not to be confused with the more humanoid Rigelians. Rigel's a crowded system) are shell-less sabertooth turtles.

Voth have about as much in common with lizards genetically as Humans do. If you want to get technical about it, Voth have more in common biologically and genetically with birds than they do lizards. Remember, they're dinosaurs. Cut a Voth open and their internal anatomy is pretty similar to our own, with the heart in the same place, two lungs, red blood, tendency to be right handed, so on, like all Terran vertebrates. They probably have a roughly 60% genetic commonality with Humans, which is about the same as most birds.

From a biological perspective, Humans and Voth have more in common than Humans and Vulcans.

You are not a canine. You are a furry. Furry is the word you are looking for.

The word he was really looking for is feline. (Unless he's a mog: a cross between a man and a dog, and his own best friend).

At least you primates don't have to deal with the Voth on a familial level.

Every family reunion it's like "ugh, here comes the Voth. I hope they didn't bring that terrible egg salad."

It would work better if your character was a Gorn. That's not even a mammal, and that damn ifyoudbeensuccesfulyoudbeenabird should at least know that difference.

I know, right? This primate is definitely offended at being properly called a primate. Oh...wait...no I'm not, being as it's an accurate description and all. I came closer to being offended (in a good, laughing my hind end off way) in Oblivion when Mraaj'Dar of the Dark Brotherhood called me "Foul-smelling ape." :D

Incorrect, Lizards are in a separate order within Reptilia from the branch which Voth are from.

I wish sci-fi writers would not use such generalizations to express disrespect of one character towards others. It really sounds awkward and stupid. And by the way, why primates? Doesn't anybody think about Targs? :P (Would that still be porcine? Sus Scrofa Kronossicus? :D)
