So, in trying to get my Dyson Surveillance Science Destroyer geared I realized a few things...
1) You can't Unequip it
2) the only other Proton weapon in the game for ships is part of a Rep set, and you can only equip one
Meaning...
You Have to mix energy types on that ship.
Was that something that was overlooked or to the Devs intend to alienate people who don't want to mix Energy types from using one of the newest ships in the game (and a BIG Z-Store item)?
On the contrary, I'm pretty sure that's 'working as designed/intended.' They specifically made it a proton weapon and have stated that they currently have no intent to make any consoles to boost proton weapons. So I expect it's supposed to be a limiting factor that you get one 'bonus' weapon, but you can't buff its output.
While mixing energy types is generally a bad thing, having a single 'odd' weapon is hardly going to break anything. Just match all your 'normal' loadout in whatever flavor you prefer and go from there.
Get the +pol or +weapon Dyson tac consoles, they'll proc proton damage, do Polaron power drain, boost Polaron damage, and boost the proton damage by the EPW and DHC.
I don't really care about the DSD so I may be wrong... but don't most ships not have resistance to Proton? If so, then your lack of proton boosting is balanced by other ships' lack of resistance.
