Can you stop the stealth updates?!

vocmcpvocmcp Member Posts: 1,134 Arc User
Guys we've told you over and over again: WE DO NOT LIKE STEALTH UPDATES.

Reading the latest threads and playing the game a bit you've snuck in some of them again. Be it positive stuff like foundry rewards or the fact that some of the elite content (voth & undine) has become quite a bit harder.

Please notify us of such changes. Thank you! :)

    Some updates are idiotic to publicize like exploits. Most stealth updates are due to a dev forgetting to put it into their changes made folder. Also, there is always unintentional changes that the devs have no idea about. A dev changes this part of the game and it changes something else. If a dev accidentally makes Elite content more challenging, then it is not necessarily a bug since bugs are always undesirable.

    Forgetting = unprofessional work
    Accidentally = unprofessional work
    Unintentional = unprofessional work

    I know that sounds a bit harsh now and I know things are a bit more complicated but given the amount of times this is happening it's not acceptable. Period.

    It's almost as if Cryptic is made up of human beings who are known to make mistakes, even in a professional business setting.

    And you have a point this happens quite often, but at this point... meh. We should be used to it. I tell my friends to avoid a brand new Season for a good solid month until most of the bugs are worked out.

    Seems to work, for the most part.

    For the last several months the forums were full of threads about content being faceroll easy - now are we swinging to "it's too hard"?

    Strange.

    I'm not accepting "being used to it" as an excuse for a half done job. If I worked the same in a professional business setting I'd have been fired a long time ago. In a country with much stricter labour laws than the United States.

    I'm not complaining about what they've done, although they overdid it, I'm complaining about HOW they did it AGAIN.

    Who's "we"?

    I personally love stealth updates. We get to discover new surprises, and that can be fun at times.

    Who is we?

    Sometimes, I like some surprises ... so ... yeah ... Fine ... I'm being awkward ... but there have been some nice surprises in these "surprise" updates.
    Hopefully I'll come back from my break; this break is fun; I play intellectual games.

    I hope STO get's better ...

    Not quite ... Some of us actually like most of the changes, however, as with all things Cryptic, they totally balls it up sometimes (all the time?)

    The increased difficulty in the STF's is great, and my hat's off to Cryptic.

    But it would have been nice to know they were doing 'something' even if it's only so that players joining PuG's understand that there are now differences, so that they can prepare better, or not bother doing Elites until they are ready.

    Some of it though is just plain pathetic, and quite obviously Cryptic did exactly 0 testing before hand ... 2 That spring to mind are Breach Elite and Tholian RA's ... These are essentially unplayable now.

    Some stealth updates are understandable. Fixing exploits etc. But other than that, it's rather annoying. If they're just going to do stuff without putting it in the patch notes, then why bother with the notes at all?

    If the devs stopped making stealth updates I'd lose the entertainment these threads provide. That would make me sad. :(

    Good point!

    I'm more happy there are stealth updates than there are a lack of updates & fixes. I like S9, but there's some serious bugs going on. The more fixes coming in sooner, the better I say.

    I hate stealth updates myself.
    Why? Purely that I don't know they are coming and I'm left wondering if something that happened in a game is a stealth update or an just an odd run.
    I'd be cool and 100% gravy with the lil buffs and nerfs (as they are usually only small but they do catch us by surprise sometimes leading to nightmare runs) if we were told about them in patch notes.
    In other games I've played even the tiniest of game changes have been posted for all to see.
    Just tell us chaps :)

    I don't think the difficulty increase to the elite content was intentional, and it happened before s9.

    Edge, why are still playing this game if all you do on the forum is complain about how bad it is?
    Based on everything I've seen you post, you seem to get virtually no enjoyment out of this game.:confused:

    We get it. You are dissatisfied. You can stop now.:P

    Actually, it appears that he doesn't play anymore or maybe he never played at all. After all, it makes no sense for a person that complains about everything to still be playing this game or they enjoy being miserable. His version of PvP is using the forums to irritate people that actually like playing this game.

    Stealth updates are not good, no matter what they're about. If something gets forgotten every now and then, it's no big deal, but when changes are intentionally concealed, it damages the reputation of the devs.
    Most of the time, it's likely just the exploit fixes and slight adjustments that get concealed, but if anything at all is concealed, then they're not being honest with us, and that creates a rift between us and them, and makes us suspicious of their actions.

    Not the first thread about stealth updates. Last year they went above and beyond applying those to the game. Not sure why they hide those even after the patch is done and everyone knows that it has changed.

    I don't even know how to say this nicely, so i will just say it, because it needs to be said.

    LEARN TO READ!!!.

    How about you READ the thread before jumping in pretending you are super cool.

    That way you will see WHO 'WE' is, and you won't have to make complete fools of yourselves asking stupid questions that have already been answered.

    I read the thread...

    just to clear cryptic this person doesn't speak for me... in fact s/he may only speak for his/her/their self.

    personally I don't care.

    if I stop posting it doesn't make you right it. just means I don't have enough rum to continue interacting with you.

    I thought it was only me that noticed it and was annoyed by it. I'd have said something before, but, to be completely honest, I am a coward on the internet. :o
    I'd put why are you still coming to the forums now. I doubt they still play.

    I'm going to regret putting that, aren't I? :(

    Oh yeah, on topic. I love stealth updates, most of the time. I loved the small surprise of the officer reports being back for example. Hmm, but is the dilithium reward on foundry missions still there? I also love this thought that the content has been made harder, it needs more challenge. (*Points to signature.*)

    On the other hand, if there were a stealth nerf, I would rather know about that.

    Oh, I've seen it against other Fomumers too. But you are right, it is mainly against Cryptic. If any of the dev are paying attention to this, pay no attention to the complaints. You do make a good game. Even though, to most people you can not do anything right.

    If a game company with the name Cryptic didn't keep things Cryptic, then I would be surprised and disappointed. Even then, Cryptic is less cryptic than some MMO companies.
