Flight safety at ESD

vocmcpvocmcp Member Posts: 1,134 Arc User
So...... as it turns out space traffic control is not doing a very good job at ESD. Not to speak of all the player ships flying around in chaos, even the NPC's just give a damn about basic flight safety rules. If this continues we'll soon need another ESD...................

As you can clearly see, the incoming shuttle completely ignores that there is a big ship just passing by......

I Like To Think That SpacedocK Orbital Control Has Everything So Precisely Contriolled, That They Know Where Every Ship Is At Every Moment, Down To The Very Last Millimeter, And If There WereAny Danger Of Collision, They Would Slow One Of The Offending Vehicles Down Or Speed Them Up To Avoid It.

Pish. They haven't even figured out that the docking doors are smaller than some of the ships.

lol, nice. Now, on a more serious note, consider the 'real word' size comparisons between an Ody and a Type 8. Official game data lists the Odyssey Class as having a total length of a little over a kilometer (Approx. 1100 meters if I remember right) while a Type 8 Starfleet Shuttle is around the same size roughly as an F-18 I would say based only on observation. Now, I doubt I need to mention this but space is BIG, it's dammed huge to the point where I doubt ship to ship 'accidental' collisions would be a problem usually, EVER. So figure in the sheer size difference and such and you could reasonably argue that both that Odyssey Class and that shuttle are nowhere near one another.

I enjoy this kind of thread. It's like farting in the air to fight the wind. It's poetic, childish and completely useless.

I'd assume this shuttle to be warp capable so in essence it's a flying warp core. Wouldn't want to crash that thing right next to a space station would you?

It's true that space is big. Space IS big. Really big. You just won't believe how vastly, hugely, mind-bogglingly big it is. I mean, you may think it's a long way down the road to the chemist's, but that's just peanuts compared to space... and so on.

The space right around ESD?... Not so much :P
*STO* It’s mission: To destroy strange new worlds, to seek out new life and new civilizations... and then kill them, to boldly annihilate what no one has annihilated before!

I think his/her point, is that that image is forcing perspective to make the ships appear as though they are next to each other, when in fact, the shuttle is significantly closer to the camera than the Odyssey, and therefor, not a collision risk.

That said. . . these things are just flying in circles, each at a different rate. And while I did stagger the orbits of concentric flyers, so that the Odyssey won't crash through the D'Kyr or Sovereign, and the Workbees won't fly through the Yellowstones in the Docking Bay, the shuttle bay small craft cross those other orbits, and will, eventually, at some point, fly through another ship. No question.

    Well phasecloaking technology exists. :D

Cut his phone some slack. Maybe it got it's degree from the University of Phoenix.

Well, as you can see the shuttle, it would not be a phase cloak. A matter phase modulator maybe?

You are just a damn agent of chaos, aren't you?

    Space magic! :D

That is about the dumbest idea I have ever heard. The only thing dumber than that statement is the idea of microscopic parasites in your blood stream that give you telekinetic powers.

Good lord, how stupid would something like that be?

I know right? Good thing one of the biggest names in the film industry didn't introduce that to one his biggest franchise. That would have been a disaster! :D

I know! It's on par with betting your entire galactic empire on two doomsday battle stations with a design flaw that any damn teenager in a fighter ship could destroy with a single torpedo barrage!

    That would be STUPID!
