Bigger and bigger

We've all heard talk of power creep; and nerf, but what about size creep?
The romulan ships are among the worst examples (scimi?), what do you think?
Do we need a size/scale nerf, to hammer ships into shape?

In canon the rom ships are huge. You can fit a galaxy class inside of the empty space of a warbird; and the scimitar was much bigger then the warbird.

How far must canon be respected? Is the game a simulator of a fantasy concept, or a an interpretation?

It's respected to the point where it needs to make playable sense. Small craft are bigger then they need to be because players need to be able to see them while they are in use, but for most everything else players like to see how close cryptic gets to properly scaling one ship against another.

    In a word, no.

There are many a complaint I could make about STO, but by and large none of them would be directed at the Art Department.

I don't think there is a size creep... not anymore.

All the ships lately have been rather on the small or moddle size side of things.

The Scimitar has been the last really big ship and I think it stops there.

Back in the day, the devs said, that the scimitar for players would be unlikely because of it's size which would cause gameplay issues and that is still true to a degree.

You can't really make them bigger anymore without causing major problems.

Probably the reason why we won't ever see the Enterprise-J as a player ship.

The only bigger ships are and will be NPCs with the Voth cityship taking the cake of course. ;)

If they start coming out with playable ships that are larger than the scim, then yeah. If they stay within the current bounds of what we already have, then no.

Agreed. The scale of Federation ships will change RADICALLY based off the plotline.

We're due for far bigger ships since they have the frigate class covered with ships like the Tact Escort.

If you want your borg cube, and you want it to scale, you are going to be disappointed with "size creep"

    Borg Cube vs. Galaxy Class

And just think about the Tactical Fusion Cube.....I know that's owned by another gaming license so it's not gonna happen, but it was 8 Tactical cubes fused into 1 giant monster.

I thought WoW's forums had angry elitist snobs, but I never could have imagined the level STO forums has.

The ships they released with the Undine lockboxes are:

Mirror Nova (not a big ship), Mirror Somraw (also not that big) and Mirror Mogai (a little bigger).

And then the Undine ships themselves, both of which aren't really that big.

So with season 9 thus far, smaller is how they're going.

The ones that are currently in game are done, so nerfing their size is not needed. However I think that future ships should be more reasonably sized and not follow the sizes of the overgrown ships we've been getting lately.
