the updater changed some settings, and some folks seem to have been set to "max everything" by it. See if you can adjust your settings down a bit.

There may also be a need for a patch. Lots of folks having trouble getting it to look right and perform well. No word yet on that.

Pretty sure their goal is to have reasonable graphics on "typical" systems and "acceptable performance" on low end systems. That is, whatever happened here was probably not a philosophy change but a developmental blunder of some sort.

What problems are you having? Is it just simple performance issues or visual issues?

I would say that generally over time you will likely see increasing demand on graphics in MMOs because the performance of integrated graphics improves year over year. That especially so for Intel graphics. AMD integrated graphics are still better (depending on the model #), but Intel has come a very long way in a short period of time.

Although I am between video cards in my comp at the moment, I did notice a drop in frame rate in ESD, even though my settings are scaled back a bit to allow smoother GUI response in the Dill mining mini-game. It probably didn't help that I also switched from VGA to DVI; although I get better detail, hard edges are a bit pixellated, and motion is a bit jumpy. I plan to fix some of that with a new gfx card soon, but it's evident that at least ESD is a more texture- and detail-rich environment than before.
