It should be Season 9, but from everything I know, it feels like it's just going to be another Season 8.
Season 9 is going to bring us:
* A new Reputation System
* A new social zone
* A reworked Reputation System
* A new Lock Box
* Dyson Sphere themed plot development
* New Reputation Gear/Equipment
* A new Earth Space Dock
Season 8 brought us:
* A new Reputation System
* A new social zone
* A reworked Reputation System
* A new Lock Box
* Dyson Sphere themed plot development
* New Reputation Gear/Equipment
* A new Federation Tutorial
Season 8 (as far as I'm concerned) didn't perform, and this isn't just my opinion. I know a number of people who think the same (though likewise, I am sure there are many people who love it) - I would think though, it has to be said that Season 8's release wasn't as busy as it could/should have been.
And now, it looks like we're seeing it all over again, just with a new touch of paint. Granted we still don't know everything about the latest season just yet, but if what we do know is any indication of what to expect, then I'm fairly disappointed.
LOL
Improvements? Yes, sure.. they add new rep items that are going to broke even more the already broken balance on space PVP and now also on ground PVP.
So dont call Season 9 an improvement on PVP just because they change the queues. This is going to be another fiasco as the Shuttle PVP. You can fix what ever you want the queues, but if you keep adding broken stuff and unblance chesee, is still going to be bad.
You can add a drop of water in to a wild fire, but if you also add more wood, belive me, that is not an improvement.
Now, the fact that the Season 9 is 99% similar as Season 8, should tell us that the Season 8 was not as bad (for them, for their pockets) as we believe it was.
I think we need to save all judgement of season 9 til it goes live and people engage in it. Tribble is testing it out, and that's one thing, but it's totally different when it goes live.
Season 9 also brings a new FE completing the trilogy as well as a reworked Terradome STF.
STO is about my Liberated Borg Federation Captain with his Breen 1st Officer, Jem'Hadar Tactical Officer, Liberated Borg Engineering Officer, Android Ops Officer, Photonic Science Officer, Gorn Science Officer, and Reman Medical Officer jumping into their Jem'Hadar Carrier and flying off to do missions for the new Romulan Empire. But for some players allowing a T5 Connie to be used breaks the canon in the game.
And lets not forget about the new bridge (the best one so far for the feds).
And the most important thing was that, for good or for bad, Season 8 added a new adventure zone, with space and ground maps. Season 9 just completed the missing battlezone.
There is also the fleet holding, that like it or not, was content.
So, in quantity of material, Season 8 is far superior than the 9.
With the kit "revamp", I just want to know if my existing one that I burned hard-earned fleet credits on will still work. If not, will I get a refund of the purchase price?

This is subjective. For all we know, they've just tweaked a couple of missions. At least, as far as I know. You speak of a complete rework, but is it exactly that?

It it's profit related, then no. They've probably made a good amount with lock boxes and ship sales (no doubt a lot of people went for that Galaxy bundle). If they're getting by though, and they can continue to do so with minimal effort, that's a professional achievement, not a very good community one though.

"Refund", that's adorable. I think there is some sort of trade in deal, but I am not up to date. If so, is it worth buying now and trading later?

I believe I remember reading that existing kits can still be used, you just can't buy them anymore. Likewise, I do believe (again, from reading) that current ones can be traded in for the newer.
With the kit "revamp", I just want to know if my existing one that I burned hard-earned fleet credits on will still work. If not, will I get a refund of the purchase price?
All current kits will still work. The non-Fleet Kits would have no way to convert them to the new system. However, the Fleet Kits have the option of being traded in for the new version. So you will get the Fleet Kit, the level 4 Kit Module, and maybe Kit Modules for the other powers.
On Tribble, the Fleet Kits (with no Fleet Kit Module) costs 70% of the value of the current Fleet Kits and the Fleet Kit Modules cost 30% of the value of the current Fleet Kits.
This is subjective. For all we know, they've just tweaked a couple of missions. At least, as far as I know. You speak of a complete rework, but is it exactly that?
People say hollywood has run out of ideas and just rehashes the old stuff over and over again.
But people still go to theaters and watch the stuff and it still makes money.
So Hollywood continues to rehash the same stuff over again over again.
Same thing with Cryptic. If people stop buying lockboxes. They won't make them. They will find another way to fund the game.
All of the kit/armor parts are now in the tailor. And all classes can access them. And they're colourable.
Well I look forward to trying them out. Shame though that they couldn't work the tailor into .. say .. allowing us to customize our Embassy Romulans etc. :rolleyes:
If you've been prepatching, theres an entire season on your hard drive.
I don't need to prepatch. I don't need to play Season 9 the second it comes out. It isn't going anywhere. I can quite happily wait a couple of days. Besides, by the time I get around to it, the bugs (at least, the big ones that cause initial problems) would have been solved.
Same thing with Cryptic. If people stop buying lockboxes. They won't make them. They will find another way to fund the game.
Lock Boxes aren't a problem, not for me. I don't like them, I have no use for them, so I don't buy the keys to unlock them. Not anymore at least. Simple. What does bother me is an apparent copy & paste of Season 8 to create Season 9.
I hope I'm wrong, I really do, but I predicted I wouldn't think much of Season 8, and when it was released, my prediction was right. I'm in the same state of mind here with Season 9.
It should be Season 9, but from everything I know, it feels like it's just going to be another Season 8.

Well, lets be fair, your generic description fits season 6, and Season 7 as well. It's Cryptic's outline for whAt a season should be. The difference IS what's IN the zone and what the new story missions, etc offer in terms of story, new or reworked gameplay mechanics, etc.
IMO - though Season 9 overall jdoes indeed come across as an almost carbon copy of Season 8 as the new zone is still in the Dyson Sphere; and is still involving the same protagonists (Voth, Undine) - and for me, that disappointing. If we now have access to the Delta Quadrant, I'd like to SEE the actual Delta Quadrant; not just another location in a Dyson Sphere that sits in gthe Delta Quadrant yet again <--- Been there, done that with Season 8.
For me, it would have been nice if they somehow used the Sphere as a jumping off point INTO the actual Delta Quadrant and moved the story in that direction.

Yeah, like some sort of expansion, and all these updates were leading up to an expansion. Oh well to bad
I think Season 9 is little better than Season 8 going by the list. You get a new story arc, Undine has new looks ground and space. New kits you can customize to your own specs. ESD gets a new look. Some new action zones to play in.
If you break down each Season or Expansion is all the same. It depends on what they do new.
I'm looking forward to the new Season to see all the new goodies.

We didn't get a new fe for years. Now cryptic is popping them out every quarter.- good
Cryptic is making them superb quality - meh. Ok
Cryptic is making huge battle zones that you can solo content - good
Cryptic is making group stfs so that half of the people can afk and not listen to instructions because they are designed for sociopaths- bad. Very very hilariously bad
And some quality of life improvements - very good
Remastering of old episodes - IMHO I really don't like this because it ruins the story in my head. But that is just me
Earth space dock- dunno. Never really saw the last new earth space dock since I play kdf
And this is just this month. In June will be the summer event.
Sept May be a small 9.5 content thing.
Garret wang is going to be doing voice overs for the game this summer.
Then in late nov season 10. I have no idea how they are going to fund it.
Then the Xmas event.
This is one busy year for sto. They are doing more this year for sto than they did while creating the original game

Correction: There is no season 10 coming this year. The update coming later this year is going to be about the size that Legacy of Romulus was. They're simply building up to it by teasing us with the Dyson Sphere stuff. Everything that they've been working to fix up might finally be brought out with the Expansion.

Season 10 would be an end of year release just like Season 8. Two seasons with a major expansion in the middle.

Where do you guys read/hear this stuff? You're the second person who has said the next update is an expansion (though it might have been you've said the same thing, in two different posts?).
If the next update is LoR size, that would insinuate another (mini) faction (possibly)? If we were going to get another faction, I would think said faction would be Cardassian, but everything we're getting at the moment shouts Delta Quadrant, and I can't think there is any species out that way that anyone (in the masses) would like to see as playable; even a liberated borg faction ~ sure it's been mentioned a handful of times, but I don't think there are that many people who are asking for that when compared to a Cardassian, Dominion, or even Mercenary Faction.
That is, of course, assuming the next expansion provides a faction. Might not.

They've said in a number of interviews that the next expansion is being worked on right now (Season 9 has been done for a couple of weeks), that there is no new faction and that it's a bigger expansion than LoR.
So yes, MASSIVE Delta Quadrant expansion coming up.
Meh, after a while it all plays the same anyway. My pessimistic, cynical side expects the same thing from every update, expansion and addition. More of the same with a fresh lick of paint, and just enough genuinely new things to call it an update.
It will still involve teams of 5 shooting everything, spamming the F button, flying the same content over and over for yet more pretty things no-one needs by now, lock boxes dropping constantly and players complaining about whatever inevitable broken/OP/UP thing is introduced.
This is the nature of the beast, why do we expect any different?

The idea of customizable Kits is a great one, not sure if the other changes will be received with open arms.
Everybody knows that. You must be the only one surprised for that.. lol.
And given what we know from the game files, we'll be seeing the end of the F/K war.
LOL

That doesn't really mean much unless there is content behind it.
