Omega Reputation

Hi All

I've recently started a Romulan character who has turned lvl 44 (now 49). I received the message about the omega reputation and to go to ds9 for the contacts. However I do not seem to be able to acess any of the reputation on my character screen, I can do the fleet actions and earn the marks.

Do I have to be a certain distance through the story before this unlocks as I have only finished up to colleseium?

Cheers in advance.

You should just level 1 more level and all will be fine.

The only requirement to start playing with the reputation system is a level 50 character.

How far you advanced in the story does not matter. My Fed toon has been level 50 for several weeks by now. I have still not completed the 1st story arc which is the Klingon War. I am able to start the rep system.

The problem with alot of things in this game are that they are not spelled out well.

Reputation as I just recently found, is started under the "U" key and going to the reputation tab. Going to the guy out at DS9, didn't start a quest or a tutorial or nothing and honestly I am not sure it is even required because once I hit 50, I just started getting Omega Marks for Borg Dailies well before I went and visited him at DS9.

Also still don't quite understand reputation. Apparently you start missions which require you to supply all kinds of crazy materials like refrigerators which when you get enough contributions, triggers a mission that rewards reputation which then unlock traits and a store where you can buy stuff. I think that is it in a nut shell but you have to do alot of inferring and guesswork to figure that out.

Yeah, the Omega rep has some leftovers since the Borg STFs were in the game long before the Rep system came along.

Originally, it was a series of non-queue missions that you had to gather up a group for, took several hours to complete, and were quite difficult. That got revamped into the queue mission we have now, but instead of a Rep system we got technology drops that could be traded in for end game gear. The stores for that used to be on DS9. Then the Rep system came along and the STFs got re-revamped into what we have now.

Also the level caps were different back then. Max used to be 40 which is when we started running the original STFs. Then got bumped up to 45 (which is why the revamped STFs open at 44), and then again to 50. So after 2 revamps and 2 level cap increases, there's still some leftovers in game. The whole thing with D'vak is unnecessary, so just ignore that since it's a leftover.

The STFs (Borg missions you can queue for in the PVE mission queue) are listed under the rewards tab as Omega Marks. Those marks are what are needed to run the Special Task Force rep system.

They do need to do a better job of explaining this in the game, because you can start doing the STFs on the normal difficulty level at about level 45, or 46. However, the rep system will not unlock till you reach level 50.

The rep system can give you access to some useful gear that at MK XII is the next step below some of the fleet gear. This is good because you can get this gear without needing to be in a fleet, and you don't need fleet provisions, or to donate resources to a fleet just to get the fleet credits to buy something with. Makes it a lot simpler to get good gear.

In the rep system, you will have projects you can run that will give exp to the rep system. The rep systems will be redone in season 9 which launches next Tuesday on the 22nd. I suggest waiting till then to run the exp projects. They will be cheaper in resources ands easier. You will only need the Omega Marks, EC, and Experience to fill the projects. As it is now, you need to go around collecting or buying items to fill the projects. They are fixing that.

As you level up the Tiers in the rep systems, you will get special projects that will upgrade the rep system to that Tier. (Not sure why they don't just unlock that Tier once you reach it, but it doesn't till you do the upgrade). When the upgrade is done, it will make every project in that Tier available to you, as well as one passive ability you can have available to you for picking as one of your 4 you can have.

It seems like a lot of work, and requires a lot of replaying the same missions over and over till you get the rep system done. However, the gear you can get from it once you have it unlocked is worth it. The system we now have only took about one month to get to Tier 5 running each project once per day. I am not sure how long it will take to run the missions with the new system.

However, stick with the grind, and it will pay off with some good gear that you can get for both space and ground. And don't forget that there are now three other rep systems, and another on the way for season 9.

The elite versions of the Borg STFs will give you Borg Neural Processors (BNP). I have done a lot of them, but I have not actually started the rep system yet...

From what I gather some of the Omega equipment will require you to redeem some BNPs. Currently, BNP rewards for completing an elite Borg STF will either be 1, 6 or 11. It is random chance with the highest probability of get only 1 BNP per eSTF (elite Borg STF).

From a couple of posts I've read, starting in season 9 the BNP reward will be cut down to just 1 per eSTF. In reviewing the current Omega rep system as of season 8.5, I think you need about 119 BNPs if you want all the equipment that has BNPs as one of the redemption requirements.

Infected Conduit and Khitomer Vortex are the easiest of the space elite Borg STFs. I think Conduit is the easier of the two. Hive Onslaught is pretty difficult (at least to me), it requires a decent amount of coordination. Probably best to be in a fleet to do this (I am not part of a fleet) since you can plan out what to do before hand. The Cure Found is not too difficult but again, you need coordination since the I.K.S. Kang needs to be healed from time to time otherwise it can be destroyed which means mission failed. Again being in a fleet helps since you can plan things out before starting the mission. I would say half the time I play this elite STF (by simply queuing it up) the mission fails because no one stays behind to watch over the Kang.

To be honest, the Cure is the easiest STF to do. What always causes it to fail is that everyone expects the other players to protect the Kang. Whereas, if the ones that are at the cube(s) will kill the ships that the cubes spawn it will help. Also, paying attention to the Kang, and going to protect it, instead of calling out in chat for others to, it will help.

I have only been in one that failed out of almost 100 total runs. The only reason it failed was because I was curious who will go to protect the Kang. There were a lot of players that were pointing out that it was being attacked, but none of them would help it. All they wanted to do was DPS the cubes. Also, 3 different times ones on the team died they respawned in front of the Kang while it was getting killed, and didn't lift a finger to save it.

Things like this happen all the time though in all the STFs. For example, in the Conduit, a lot of players will drop the nanite generators too soon, causing the optional, and even will attack the nanite generators while the cubes are still up. Or someone will go to the other side of the gate, and will start killing things and a sphere will go over there while everyone else is on the other side.

In the Vortex, there are times when you are in there with ones that think that the probes are too menial work for them to do, so they will ignore them and expect everyone else to do it. Then, at the end some will spam Donatra, causing her to cloak so much that at times it can cause the fight with her to take longer than the entire first part of the mission.

So, there are problems with all of them if you go in expecting everyone else to do the stuff no one likes to do. When I go in PUGing, I expect to need to babysit. As long as you are willing to watch everyone else and cover their butts, then you will have no problems, and will be able to win all of them. You might loose the optionals, but will win the mission. The optionals will only give a little more marks, but even without them you get more than the normal runs.
