I have been on the game for over two years now and have recently decided to get extra characters and level them to catch me up with the story and understand it more from all three factions points of view to get a clear overall picture of what is happening. Is it just me or are there alot of things that don't make sense in the story line?
One of the funniest issues I saw was when my Romulan Fed character became level 50 and I went to Rom to "move in" and D'tan told me about how I was to help my own people and that I never knew what it was called or why. LMAO don't you think it would make more sense to have us help carry on the storyline? Also, my Reman got NO inclination of a place to see for their "place" they got from D'tans story. Seriously, we are two seasons later and I can't even walk in the enterance? I mean I am annoyed enough that we are nearly a year since the Legacy launch and that same shuttle keeps breaking after I fix it.
The other content I would like to have them continue is the story of the KDF and how their side entered the war. We have Michael Dorn, I would LOVE to see his side of the story evolved to see how he left the Federation and have him Narrate like Leonard Nimoy did for the intro of how Romulus and Remus died. I think if they introduced each side with its own perspective and update from each side as to where it stands and the introduction of what they are doing now, new characters would get a "day in the life of" style glimpse into the background of the faction and the driving force behind it. What do you think, would this add or subtract to the game at large?
State your issues with the storyline and where it makes little sense or the funniest game storyline miss you have seen. I wanna see who actually reads the missions instead of running through and skipping it to shoot things. The best thing I can see them do with this game is easter egg many things back into the game from prior missions.
What would you like to see them explore more for future episodes beyond features? I am not happy with the last two Seasons being more about a zone, then killing my new "frenemy" before I even got to get to the controlled zone. How am I supposed to be still fighting the Voth if they have no structured area? Don't you think they would strategically fall back to another area and fight the Undine for it back? I don't get this ... do you?
What do you want to see them bring in the game for future story and content?
I personally would LOVE to see them expand on the Q and the Marquis. Did the Continuum collapse, and the Marquis become obsolete in the face of all the contention? I wanna know.... do you?

The Maquis were wiped out by the Dominion during the war.
...talking to players is like being a mall Santa. Everyone immediately wants to tell you all of the things they want, and you are absolutely powerless to deliver 99% of them.
All MMOs must provide new content in order to continue to generate revenue (a stagnant game will eventually whither away and die). So yes, Cryptic must keep coming up with new and exciting things for STO.
That said, I agree with the OP's spirit of his thread that there are many (too many) 'loose threads' in STO's overall storyline currently. If new content is going to be introduced, then old content should be resolved in some manner. It's like a house in the middle of winter in Alaska. Every open storyline thread is like a door or window left open. Eventually you will loose all the heat in the house (player interest) if too many are left open. People will move to a house that keeps them warm.
So I completely agree that we need to close some of the windows and doors that are currently flung wide open in STO. And remember, a closed door (resolved storyline) doesn't mean it can't be opened again later if they Cryptic wishes to do so, however it does keep in the heat (interest) while Cryptic opens another door (or two).
Take for example one of the biggest loose threads - the Klingon-Federation War. With the way new content (New Romulus, Sphere, etc.) is being introduced, this 'war' is pretty non-existent . It should be officially resolved in some way to make this new content make sense. It's been suggested that on reaching Level 50 (the threshold to gain access to this new 'cooperative' content) that the war officially goes from a 'hot' state to a 'cold' state for characters. This would allow for cooperation, but still leave room for hostilities toward one another. This is an open door that Cryptic could easily close with just a paragraph of dialog in the right place (which, if they really want to, can open again at a later date to support a new story arc if they want to go in that direction again).
Nearly all the open threads (storylines) in STO could be resolved this way, though some might actually take a new mission to close them out (not a bad thing! ). A few open doors allows fresh air in (which is good), too many lets all the heat out (bad). I definitely think it's time to start closing many of the too many open doors in STO for the sake of the health of the game.
Reveal that the Tholians are not Iconian pawns, but enemies of the Iconians. May tie in the Vanguard series of novels. The Tholians are ancient, a former servant species of the incorporeal Shedai. They could know something about the Iconians the other Alpha/Beta Quadrant races do not know.
Tholians are isolactonists. Their aggressive moves in the Tau Dewa Sector block are most surprising.
What do they want with the Mol'Rihan artifacts? What exactly are they doing in the Azure Nebula (a transdimensional nexus)?
I conclude that they are driven by fear of the Iconians.
They are potential allies - but they distrust carbon based lifeforms. Maybe they do even know that the Federation is largely infiltrated by Undine (unwitting Iconian pawns).
The Tholians could be allies in the greater scheme of things.
2. Breen
What are the Breen doing? Were the Breen hunting for Preserver technology only a splinter/rogue faction or did they represent the Confederacy proper?
Why did the Breen want Preserver tech? Only for power?
Or are they preparing for the Iconians, too?
Where do the Breen stand in all of this?
3. Preservers
What the hell did happen to the Preserver archives and the entire mess on Defera?!
A good point to re-introduce them would have been the Voth.
The Voyager version of the Voth's background doesn't make a lot of sense. If the dinosaur ecosystem of Earth would have been transplanted by the Preservers and the Voth developed out of this transplanted ecosystem (guided by the Preservers), it would make a bit more sense.
4. The Dominion
They got 2800 new (old) ships. After a bit of refitting, a formidable force. Also, they got the female founder back - an "intergalactic warlord" (quoting Kira).
Maybe the Dominion gets more aggressive again.
Maybe they know more about the Iconians, too. It's hinted in the "2800" FE series.
5. The Borg
The Borg became more aggressive. They tried to assimilate Omega particles, were in conflict with the Iconians themselves (Legacy of Romulus) and are right now engaged in a war with the Voth.
What's going on there exactly?
6. Romulan Star Empire
Sela. Nuff said.
Also, I want to see a Romulan Unification in my lifetime.
Extend the Romulan storyline. Make us go against the holdings of the Star Empire. The navy and the rest of the military should join the Republic, thous overthrowing the Tal Shiar.
I can see it before me. A Republic fleet in orbit of Rator III, the Tal Shiar/Imperial Navy fleet defending the planet... and then, the navy joins the attackers. Kind of a "Battle for Cardassia Prime" moment.
Romulan space should be united under one government.
Ideal point to turn the fraction into a true faction, too.
But hey... we are going to the Delta Quadrant instead. To open up new storylines which will never see completion.

Good ideas! But I particularly like the one above. It would be an awesome way to introduce the Iconians in the flesh (to support the Tal Shiar) and as you say create a true third faction out of the Romulans. The Battle for Rator III could be epic both for the combat and the direction the story takes (Iconians finally in game and birth of a full Romulan faction)
We really do need to see some closure on storylines as we level up.
I was flying through sector space the other day and a got up from an officer telling me that I need to kill the Romulans in the sector. I was thinking "~I'm~ a Romulan, you racist #^@%." Its like he was intending to talk TRIBBLE about me behind my back and misdialed his view screen.
They either need to fix that or put his character at ESD with an option to kick him in the thin mints.

I am of the opposite point of view. I want to overthrow the Republic and return the Romulans to their former glory.

The Tal Shiar is lost. Cryptic made them Iconian slaves, and the Romulans deserve better.
If the Romulan military would take over the thing, and we would get back the Star Empire that way... that's fine with me.
I think Cryptic will make the Republic win, though.

Maybe not.
D'Tan is certainly not power hungry and wants the best for the Romulan people as a whole. Reunification under a solidified, healed Star Empire banner again would accomplish this goal.

I would support the Star Empire. Like it better then the Republic.
But I stay pessimistic that this is a possibility. I think Cryptic likes its Republic.
I learned to live with it. Just give me ONE united Romulan government not under Iconian control and I am happy.
It might be along the lines of what you were looking for.
I played the revamped episodes on Tribble ages ago.
They are nice. But they don't address very much of the open ended story content. Next to nothing, actually. I am not saying that they are not good. Those revamped missions are just not what this thread is about... I think.

Until the Romulans learn to turn the Iconian technology against them. Use an Undine world killer beam through the gateways.
On an unrelated note, I played too many Tales Of games when I was younger. Now everytime that I see 'Undine' I read it as 'ooon-dee-nee'.
