A while ago, one of the purple names said that "by definition, nothing belongs in general discussion... People should'n post there". (Wording may be wrong, but that was the essence of what was being said).
So.. If nothing is general, then what is? Whats your take on this?
Don't look silly... Don't call it the "Z-Store/Zen Store"...
was wondering that myself... as many topics that were somewhat topic specific but mainly general, so no real feedback but merely a discussion get moved.

Obviously my thread spawns from one of these threads...
But I really wonder... Because if it's true, and not just purple names abusing their power, and nothing should ever be posted in general discussions, then why even have the board?
If there is a forum that exists where what you want to post about would belong, then that is where you need to post it. If, however, there is not a specific forum where it would belong, then it can be posted here in General Discussion...
...Until the moderators decide that it belongs somewhere else and move it...
Nonononono... I am well aware of the other boards... But... why a general discussion board, if nothing is general discussion (already said that, but meh).

HEH there are things that do belong in here and I was going to make a post (and see about it being stickied so no one can pay attention to it) but let me try to elaborate a bit more on things.
General Discussion should be used for threads that have no other place to go. For example anything dealing with Reputation should go in the rep area, fleet holdings into the fleet holding area, technical threads into the support area etc.
Now at times that rule is bent for example when it's an unexpected downtime we leave the thread in general discussion as it's a critical thread that we (CM's and Mods alike) try to keep up to date as much as possible.
Yes the forum titles are about feedback, but 9 times outta 10 the discussions about systems HAVE good solid feedback in them (even if you don't notice it) and it's easier for the dev's in charge of that system to actually be able to see it instead of wading through general discussion (which a LOT do not like to do). They may or may not post on it that's obvious, but they will read it.
So really we're trying to keep things more organized not just because some of us are OCD about it (I'm just picky about stickies :P), but because we want to keep things organized for players to find information properly and for the dev's to have an easier time reading things as well.
Hopefully that explains things a little bit better.

The worst part about multiple moves out of general is all the added clicks of not just going back to the general section where in many cases many of us have started following multiple threads.
Also a lot of times it kills a thread.

Yes yes yes... I am fully aware of the other boards and their purpose...
But, your colleague specifically pointed out that nothing belongs in general discussions... That is what is weird about it...
I suppose I am looking for a solid description of what actually qualifies as a general discussion.
I won't step on another mod's toes (I will step on Morrigan's though...just because I'd then get a chance to be hit by bacon :P) but in general, If there is no other forum it belongs in, and it's about STO it goes in this forum.
If need be we can make a judgement call at that point and move it. Now this doesn't mean just post it in here because you know we'll move it and you're doing it to get the most coverage before we do. :P At that point we might have to have Q smack people around.. or turn them into cute puppies. Both works ^^
Anyways unless one of my bosses wants to comment, which they can even if I do this, I'm going to close this thread down.
The reason being is the original question has been answered, hopefully well enough, and I don't want to leave this thread open to where it's starting to discuss other things about moderation (which even this much is treading on violating rules and yes i know i'm guilty of it too at this point I can already feel a ban coming my way :P)
In conclusion if you ever see your thread moved out of general it's not because we're just being mean, it's because it belongs elsewhere. And I'll try to post a reason from now on on threads I move so there isn't any confusion
