Disco ball "upgrade"? Revamp? Change? Thread

rosetyler51rosetyler51 Member Posts: 1,631 Arc User
Basic idea is remove the disco balls from the GPL store and replace them with new "Q-Powered Balls!" (name pending). These would cost more and you will be able to buy them from the c-store. These new balls do the same thing normal balls PLUS! they work kind of like a mini-lockbox for everyone but the owner. You get hit by it and you get something. I think it should not be gear. Maybe something like those items in Romulan rep that let you summon a crew of Romulans/Remans around you. Maybe a Tholian, Elachi, Voth, and other races versions of that? (Orions anyone? ;) )

Now what about the price. Two ideas on that. One, a price higher then the old balls in the GPL store. I mean something that will give you a reason to play dabo. Reason why that could be a bad idea, dabo is not the funnest minigame to play for a long time. So maybe if there was some GPL paying out dailies players could do maybe this plan would work. Idea two, a really high price in the GPL store and sell them in the c-store too. Main reason why I thought up this plan. EC sink and I like making sure STO is still around, giving them money is how we do that. I have no idea on how to price them.

Now a few things that I did not know where to put in.

Why the owner gets nothing? They do get something. The warm fuz-wait.....yeah. The new party bombs is not meant to be a "mememememe" item. It's a gift to well, gift to someone.

I will edit in more Q&A as people ask questions

My first edit: I'm in the "Someone spams the ball and you don't like it you can move somewhere else" group so just wanted to let that be known.

How bout you take your hands off my disco balls, and back away slowly......

They can add your idea without taking away my fun :P Without the discoballs, what's the point in playing dabo? With Disco Balls!?!

Don't worry.Your balls are safe. The balls that people have bought are safe. Just they will no longer but in the gpl store.

Disco ball removal sounds like I better idea to me. Did you even stop to think that maybe people don't want their inventory flooded with useless TRIBBLE?

I've played the game he's talking about, not only do you have to physically pick up the items, but you can get rare, endgame level stuff from them. We're talking the equivalent of fleet gear level stuff.

They are a troll item, really. They should add an option that allows people to turn it off, because I do NOT want my characters to randomly start an involuntarily, unstoppable dance emote.

Who thought that would be a good idea?
Let us wear Swimsuits on Foundry maps or bridges please! I would pay zen for that.

Sounds like a virtual pinata... and a lot better than that lame party amp we got now! :D

The trolls would hate it, but who cares?? They're trolls! :P

The OP has a 2012 account with ~120 posts. I'm going to say that its probably an alt account belonging to someone who has made many, many threads like this one before.

    Just a hunch. ;)

OP: I'm sorry you hate music, disco, dancing and fun in general.

    Forced "fun" is not fun.

Also different people enjoy different things so everyone has a different idea of what is fun.

I have friends who do not see the fun in playing PC games or app games let alone MMOs, or the enjoyment I get from growing plants both indoor and on the balcony. Don't even go down the road of my inverts. I don't see the fun in some of the things they enjoy. Yet none of us have felt the need to say sarcastic insults at each other.

To insult people who do not enjoy what you enjoy says more about you than the person you are insulting.

Well from what I read they want a disco pinata, so an improved version of the current ball, as opposed to the usual get rid of them threads. Though I could be missing the hidden get rid of message.

    +1 for the basic idea.

If you want to force players into dance emotes at least give the ones in the affected vicinity prizes. I like it.

I suggest a buff to disco balls that causes them to spawn a new disco ball every 5 seconds. These new disco balls also have the same buff, as do all disco balls spawned by them.

Also they need louder disco and more lasers and glitter.

I have seen some disco ball drops that are absolutely mind boggling. I am sure someone figured out some kind of exploit but holy god Electric Boogaloo whenever they do it, its like 20 of them all stacked together.

    Its glorious...

There certainly needs to be some changes

    1) The party amp needs a increase in AoE at least 3x the current effected area

    2) Players caught in it are stuck disco dancing in trance for a min of 10 sec - which can be reduced with ground traits regarding root resistence.

    3) There should be "Disco Inferno" by the Trammps played every time one is popped.

    4) A space disco ball needs to be added. Effected ships have their lights blink on and off in random fashion - if they are a cruiser with beams - the beam fire at will in all directions.

If there was a way to +1 someone here you would have one from me. Thank you for being the first person not to turn this into an other one of the "rabble rabble someone is ruining MY FUN and they should be banned" thread or worst, being one of the people that give the first group a reason to think that.

Now back to the topic at hand. Prizes for the new balls. There would be two versions of them I think. A c-store one and a GPL store version. The c-store version has better prizes plus some of the items you can get from the GPL store version.

    Now the prizes

    A stack of tonics
The Air Guitar Emote (C-Store version only)
Entourage items (They let you summon a small group of NPC so you can make a party anywhere you go. I want this item to cover most factions ingame. I mostly want to see dancing Fek'ihri.)
BTC versions of past party poppers (C-Store version only)
    1-2 lobi (C-Store version only)
Boxes of GPL (100 to 2k)
Those holo-emitters. Space and ground versions. There would new versions too.
If there is an event going on the balls would have a chance of dropping items for that (favors, "Q-Marks", winter items, etc)
    Q's outfit (C-Store version)

Pretty someone can think of other items they would want to see in it. So type it up. Also about the filling up your bag with "party items" bit. Two ways to handle it. One is you can only get an item once per 15/30/60 mins, not 100% sure on the time yet. The other is the prizes go right into the overflow bag like the small craft pet you get when you buy one from the c-store.

Why don't you field the "U.S.S. Disco Inferno" in PvP

get 8 different beam - all different colors - get the spire beam consoles to make them more effective.

Run 2x aux to bat and Faw - you could have a almost full-time multi-colored light show going in PvP!!

Sure it won't be that effective dmg wise - but just the pure - "WTF" could be worth it!

the only change to diso balls should be that they work in space, and when other ships fly through it their nacells start strobbing out in disco colors.
