So I was in CSE just a few minutes ago and my ship got injured. And I had no minor components to fix the problem. What confuses me is why we can't use major or critical to fix the lower tier problems. Personally I think we should just have "components" to deal with injuries instead of having to keep 3 different kinds in stock for our injuries. Maybe I'm in the minority here. But what does everyone else think?
The variety, and the inability to buy them directly other than the exchange makes for interesting times while you're leveling. If you're smart, you would have saved them while you leveled so that once you're doing elite (where you need them) you have the resources necessary to survive.
I like the complexity. They've dumbed down the game enough as it is.

Erm.....AFAIK, only the Critical Components are drop-exclusive. Minor and Major components are available at the shipyard EC store.

You know correctly. And Critical Damage only comes from not fixing the minor and major damage. At least, I have never seen it hit with first having the other two.
And a fact that quite a few seem to forget: both Components and Regenerators can be stored in Your bank so they do not neccessarily have to clutter up Your inventory - and You can still use them to heal injuries or repair damage during STFs. Drawback of this is that You do not see the current status unless You access Your bank and many seem to forget to regularly resupply before doing Elite STFs.
And yes, Critical Damage results can only happen if You have prior damage. It is random if You get Minor or Major damage, though.
Meh. I just ignore them and tough it out to the end of the mission and then use the shipyard dude I generally camp out next to while doing Elites anyway. I am not a bank and cannot afford to keep buying and stocking this junk. I need my bank space to store all the mark boxes I can't open yet.

As someone who has 50 boxes this made me laugh LOL
