Fleet Module question

When using the fleet modules to buy a ship I don't have, does it unlock the ship account wide?

As it stands, the ships in question are usually $20, and the four modules would cost me $20. While the modules can be obtained from the exchange, it still doesn't seem to make much sense that they would charge you the same amount of zen for a single ship, that they would for the same ship as an account unlock. Would it make more sense if they charged the extra fifth fleet module, yet gave us the $20 version as the account unlock?

I don't have the money for a Vesta right now, so i was looking to get a better sci ship. I was thinking of getting the intrepid refit but this kind of caused me to pause. If four fleet modules cost the exact same as some of these ships, then aren't we getting ripped off if they don't unlock the base version? A $5 price tag is a little iffy for a slightly better version of a ship you already have, but paying the full cost of the base ship account unlock for that single, slightly better version seems insane.

No. Fleet ships are CHARACTER unlocks.

    C-Store ships are ACCOUNT unlocks.

If you intend to buy the same fleet ship on multiple characters, buy the C-store version then buy 1 fleet module for each character.

Yep, character unlock only. Also keep in mind that any fleet ships that have C-store versions don't come with any special weapons/consoles. To get those, you have to buy the C-store version. Personally, I'd save up for that Vesta. It's already at fleet level and is account bound.

I bought a fleet ship before, they are not worth it in my opinion. If you only have one character, or only one of each faction, and don't ever plan on starting another of that faction, they might be worth it. However, since the C-Store versions are so good, it is better to just get those.

I suggest that you save up for the C-store versions, and it will let you use them on all of the other characters of that faction. Personally, I am not wasting anymore money on fleet ships, unless they offer something on the Federation, or Klingon side that is comparable to the Scimitar in performance, and there is no C-Store version.

If you want to buy a fleet ship, best to buy the C-store one first and save the 3 FSMs. But like others have said, fleet ships really are not worth the cost of 4 FSMs. 10% hull & shields and 1 more console slot for $20 for ONE ship? No way. Value for it for 1 FSM is arguable. Due to only getting 1 ship.

unless you play KDF side where not all of our fleet ships have c store versions. and in the case of the Tor'kaht not even the mirror version compares. I can't say much about fed side since I don't play in feddy bear land. just that these blanketed comments are wrong because like always there are exceptions.

Wow... that seems like a major rip off then. You're paying the same amount, plus $5 extra, but you're not getting it for any of your other characters... Why don't more people have an issue with this? That really does seem like a shady move if they're going to be asking for $20 worth of an item just for the one ship.

Thank you all for the responses, but wow... Really Cryptic? How is this okay by anyone's standards?

I have 6 SFM and i never bought em. I started collecting em since i started playing just month by month. And the next week i will buy another one. If you save zen every month, in the end, you will have enough to buy enough FSMs and you dont need to pay a cent. And they are cheaper than buying em in the exchange. All depends on how many patience do you have.

If you going to "waste" real money, do it on a c-store ship, and thats it. If you want FSM's, just save a little dilithium every day, trade it for zen, and save that zen. 500 zen for a FSM is not so much, i can gather 500 zen in about 2-3 days with 5-6 alts.

Oh I tried to point it out way back when the fleet ship system first came along. No one else joined in with me and instead they got all hyped up about it. Oh well.
