A little bug that led to an idea!

(Not sure if this is the correct place to post this)

I was moving through sector space using quantum slipstream and the new fold space power from the Dyson set. I jumped over the zone line and found myself in true deep space. I have been traveling through this empty space for about 40 minutes and have not hit a wall.

This gave me a great idea. What if Cryptic took this little bug and made it into the new exploration system.

They could make it so random systems and other random space stuff popped up every now and then, for us to encounter.

Even though I'm not supposed to be off the main map, this truly does feel like I'm exploring in STO, for the first time ever.

I had that bug a long time ago as well, it was the most fun I've ever had in STO for exploration since the first time the Genesis Engine was used often.

if they made the exploration matter in some way, say giving boosts, missions, (trade oprotunities for those ferengi chances, and allow us to get income via investments), saving colonies etc.

something would be nice, I went weapon/shield/console free and was able to get non violent missions 7/10 times.

The walls in this game are SO full of holes. There's the several in the ground battlezone, there's the ones on random maps, there's DOZENS that the BOffs fall into for no reason, and the smaller ones we get [/stuck] in (usually the geometry or an invisible wall in reverse deal). Apparently there's a hole in the sky in the park because every time I get the reprogrammed swarmer I lose it randomly while moving from one area to another. Not a despawn--it's a hole. I can find the thing on a map where I lose it but I can't get it back.

Cool story, but it seriously needs to be fixed.

It would be nice for STO to become a truely 'open world' (no puns intended). However, they simply don't see the profit in it. Sure, it would be awesome for exploration to be completely revamped and for STO to go open world, but it just wouldn't make returns on investment for PWE.:(

make long range exploration cost nothing, but make deep space exploration cost 1k dilithium per planet, and you'll see the Zen sales go up.

That's not true at all. Exploration just needs to be rethought.

Yeah, I once found my way over a sector wall. I flew for a while, thinking how cool it was, then bam, my game crashes and everytime I try to log back in with that character my game crashes again. It took 2-3 months to get it put back in the sector block.

It may seem awesome, but don't fly too far outside of sector walls if you know what's good for ya.

Chances are that any exploration system would be confined to the Delta Quadrant. We are supposed to get an expansion by the end of the year or early next year and having an exploration system in it makes sense. The Deep Space Zones are likely just place holders for future zones in the Alpha Quadrant that Cryptic might add. Tearing down the Sector Walls is something that people have been asking for years.

I think that is a way to get interest from cryptic and perfect world. It even feels trek in a way.

Deep space missions should and could cost dilthium. It makes sense you would burn though dilithium to get to long range destinations. This is consistent with how voyager searched for fuel to replenish their supplies from time to time.

what you have proposed here has already been introduced in the form of the explore strange new worlds mission that takes place in one of the star clusters such as the Delta Volanis Cluster.

When I think about everything we've been through together,

maybe it's not the destination that matters, maybe it's the journey,

and if that journey takes a little longer,

so we can do something we all believe in,

I can't think of any place I'd rather be or any people I'd rather be with.

Yes. Yes. To Voporak, you listen. And he was not the only one to lose a character on that fateful day. So turn back, NOW!

indeed, don't ever wander beyond like that, I knew one of those who went too far and also couldn't access character for a long time without a crash.

Right, I'm going to pay to explore strange new worlds in my Star Trek game... :D

Seriously, this game lacks a lot. But I don't think it's a reason to repeatedly "appeal" to PWE shouting "I PAY FOR THIS, I PAY FOR THAT!" in the forums. It's their choice to use this TRIBBLE-backwards one-way business model, don't encourage them to add more pay features.
