Has anything ever been done with those beatle aliens that took control of Starfleet Command in TNG season 1? If not, would that be a good story for a few missions?

Well, after what happened to John Lennon and George Harrison, I don't see much happening with the beatles.

Apparently, those were originally supposed to be the first appearance of what would be the Borg. Insectoid cyborgs were deemed too high budget to pull off, so that concept was scrapped, the bugs were forgotten, and the Borg became the techno zombies you know and love to hate.

I don't recall where I read that bit of trivia, but I found it quite interesting.

Yeah and this is why the one ep had that weird thing with the Borg doing something they'd never done' before or since... namely assimilating colonies by physically removing the entire colony from the planet. It was originally meant to be the work of the parasites, but plans changed.

actually, i think it might have been a tv interview:confused: i remember the same thing, but pretty sure it was on tv rather than page.

either way. would be cool to see them back. like a cross between the furies and the bugs from starship troopers.

bugs? don't we have enough bugs in the game already? :P

i wouldn't mind seeing them as a one off FE...after all, Star Trek has had more one off episodes than actual arcs. TOS and Voyager were lousy with em, TNG and DS9 as well, though DS9 did have a couple of long arcs (like the dominion war)

ent had it's share of one off episodes, though they were bound into the xindi and suliban/temporal cold war arcs quite a bit

they were not beatle aliens because they werent TRIBBLE singers with bowl cuts, if your refering to beetle aliens? then they were a cross between a parasite and an arthropod.

since that is non canon, then no.

As said, they were meant to be the Borg, but they were too expensive to make. So we got the actual Borg (but they kept the Hive Mind). And the Borg were scooping up colonies at the end of season 1 through to Best of Both Worlds (The Neutral Zone makes reference to colonies on both Romulan and Fed side going missing. This is what that was all about). Shame the Borg changed their mentality after that though and never did that again. That was one scary thing, having them able to randomly able to do that.

As for the bugs, they never appeared or were referenced on screen again, but in the books, they were revealled to be Trill symbiotes from a colony that was affected with the Klingon Augment Virus that mutated them into those bugs.

A Romulan Strike Team, Missing Farmers and an ancient base on a Klingon Border world. But what connects them? Find out in my First Foundary mission: 'The Jeroan Farmer Escapade'

There might be the potential for a good story in there, sure.

...of course Cryptic would turn it into one cliffhanger Featured Episode, a new Reputation Grind, and a Battlezone while throwing "story" out the window. :(
