Ok so.... since in EVERY trek series (DS9, TNG, VOY, TOS, there were warp core breaches in like EVERY fight... why can't there be some new boff power for beams to target warp core? And to fix it the person would have to sacrifice an ACTIVE engineer boff to fix it. And as this is a huge sacrifice I think beam target warp core should have a long cd, like 3 minutes, or even make it a multi - faction console/device?
The boss being a gigantic Winter Epohh Researcher. As you lay waste to the Epohh Horde, she can occasionally cry out things like, "Didn't you want an Epohh friend?"

Worst idea ever.
My Engineer is a rare Gorn Diplomacy Boff. It's a one-time only deal. But obviously we should implement a system whereby rare, unique or premium (such as the Liberated Borg) Boffs can be lost. Not to mention that some ships don't even have to use an Engineer Boff in their build.
Same goes for changing it to Doffs.
You're just a machine. And machines can be broken.

The idea might work if it was not a permanent loss. Like, if the BOff was considered Injured and you had to run a DOff Medical Mission to get him back up again.
You could even expand it. Perhaps it would come as a Death Penalty in Elite Difficultly missions. It could have a random chance to hit any BOff.

Second worst.
The worst was "a power to target the warp core deep inside the ship."
