1. Full rep cost something between 20 to 40 days of continuous effort. We can call it grind at this point. Leaving aside the dil and marks, you get 2 space + 2 ground + 1 clicky power as a reward for this grind. Fine. After the change you'll get the choice of using say 1 space and 1 ground per rep, essentially decreasing the rep reward by factor of 2. Assuming 4 reps - 4 slots ratio.
2. Omega Rep was introduced in November 2012, I think we can say we get 5 reps by may 2014, and 6 reps by end of 2014. Roughly it makes 1 rep every 5 months. With 6 reps by the end of 2014 you'll only can have 4 passive slots. Naturally what is the point in repping anymore?
3. It is good thing to be able to change rep passives for free, but there's no guarantee that this ability will survive the implementation. For the record we're still loosing powertray setup at random.
4. From usability perspective I'd rarely bother re-slotting rep passives between different content.
So. Now that our rep rewards inflated by a factor of 2 for mysterious "balance" reasons, essentially negating all the effort and time spent grinding it, I can understand the folks frustration. And it's fair to ask what do we get in return?
So my 2 cents:
1. Since rep rewards are cut by 2, it is fair to ask that repping time will be reduced by 2. Simplest way to multiply all projects cost x2. Less rewards - less grind. I think it's fair, do you?
2. Would be nice if we get 1 space + 1 ground passive slot per each rep.
3 + 4. Would be nice if ship loadout will remember the passives, but I settle if rep passive choices will be remembered between logouts, so you don't have re-slot rep passives every time you switch toons.
5. Would be nice if T5 rep sets cost would be normalised to 750marks, since we're loosing the ability to get mk xi borg sets.
PS. 2Mods: This is really an attempt to open a civilised dialog on the issues of "balance", so I would pretty much object if this thread will be joined into 100+ pages rantfest that no dev will ever read.
PSS. 2all: pls let's try to keep it civilised and to the point.
I posted in the thread on the dev blog, that investing time in a fleet seems to be better time spent. I agree with you, it doesn't seem cost effective for the time invested to obtain all rep passives. Seems better to get just what you need and forget the rest.
And you're complaining about reduced grind now that reps are optional rather than mandatory? Now that you can cherrypick the powers you actually want and ignore the rest without your character being underpowered compared to those of others, you're COMPLAINING that the grind is reduced? I don't understand...
I mean, seriously. I have 32 toons, all of which have maxed at least one rep, with an average of 3 or so reps maxed per toon. I'm willing to give this a shot. Calm down. You can bring out the pitchforks and torches later.
Look at this way: When they inevitably nerf your favorite rep power, your character is no longer expensively hosed, you just change out a piece of free bonus "gear" for one that hasn't been nerfed to uselessness yet.
Cost-based balance is no balance at all, since once you pay the price you are no longer balanced with people who didn't. Its a mechanism for something, but its not about balance.
Actually Im avoiding word "balance" on purpose... 'cause from what I see it's being used as the ultimate justification for "lets see what this button does" kinda changes.

Im not whining, im ********. there's a difference.
You're forgetting that borg mk x, xi are being obsoleted and replaced with mk xii version. Perhaps mark cost for mk xii would be reduced from 950 om marks to the more usual 750, but such generousity would really be unheard of.
Anyhoo, my point is that for 20 - 40 days I was engaged in very exciting activity of raising epohs and moving sliders. And as excited as Im about moving sliders and catering for small mammals I would expect some sort of rewards for the time spent. And now that the rewards are essentially being cut by half, then it's only fair to reduce the time spend repping, wouldn't you agree? Just so if god forbid I would eventually create another toon and god forbid again decide to rep him up.

Problem is, it will just be a fleet grind now instead. In the dev blog they mentioned people finishing the Dyson rep faster than intended. Now I fear they will have their work wasted because wouldn't bother to start a new rep, unless they're completionist or something (I'll prob do it on my main alone).

They are not "being" obsoleted. They already have been. They have been for a very long time. In fact, they were obsoleted back in S7, when the standard one we knew was deemed to be merely XI and then jacked up in price by infinity%. These inferior items have ALWAYS been obsolete and they have ALWAYS been merely schmuckbait.

What fleet grind? The fleet grind where you build some provisions and then bum an invite off Public Service channels? That's a grind now? You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.
I guess some don't comprehend the numbers for the new reps, I will explain.
4 space passives
4 ground passives
4 anything actives
The 4 anything actives is where it goes sour, since we currently only have 2 space and 2 ground actives you get no choice here.
It now becomes:
4 space passives
4 ground passives
2 space actives
2 ground actives
See the picture now, unless they create 1-2 new space actives in the next reputation, than you will be forced to have no choice but slot 1-2 ground actives at any given time.

Point taken. Their goals with the rep system are still not served with this though, since people, especially vets, wouldn't bother with it unless it has outstanding awards, which could in turn mean more balance issues and power creep.

Hmmm... im really not sure where to start... as of now we get 5 rep stages:
T1 to T4 give you 4 passive powers = 2 space + 2 ground + 1 T5 clicky
As we currently have 4 reps, grand total becomes = 2 x 4 space + 2 x 4 ground = 8 space + 8 ground passives.
S9 cuts amount of active passives to 4 space + 4 ground, and also introduce another rep with 2 space and 2 ground passives.
So, does it makes sense why I say "amount of active powerbuffs is cut by 2"?
Gear. Costumes. And future rewards that could be better or more interesting than the current rewards.
Say I have a character that likes to use phasers. And two reps from now they introduce a set that boosts phasers. I'm going to want that set for that character.
Say they put in a new trait that looks better than one of the ones I already have. I'm going to want that trait.
They will dangle new carrots.
I can't believe how many people post that same question, suggesting they'll never grind for anything again, when they already demonstrated they'd be willing to grind multiple reps for this long. This game will offer new things that will entice people to do a grind for.
Besides, now that the abilities are traits cryptic can make the rep abilities "very potent" we have no idea what the undine rep abilities will be but I bet they'll be "pretty damn good"

This way you get to choose which ones you want, even 2 from the same rep and same tier which you could not do before.
I for one think i am going to like it
