Need Advice on New Ship

Hello!! :D

Few months ago, I started a new character, essentially promoting another character's BOff to full Playable status.

That character reached 50, and has now been sitting idle while I've focused on other characters. I'm wanting to fix that, though, and work with them some more, but I need to make a vital decision - that being what their ship should be.

Backstory-wise, this character recently lost a loved one (sacrificed themselves to save the ship both were serving on), and wants to be able to do their part to ensure that said loved one's sacrifice wasn't in vain. They need a ship that's heavy on the firepower, and their current ship, a Chimera, certainly qualifies, but they also need something small and agile, and the Chimera definitely DOESN'T qualify in that regard.

That said, and given my policy of each of my characters having a different ship, I have two different options to choose from for this character: A Fleet Patrol Escort or an Andorian Escort.

Any advice?

Turn rate is a non-issue. You are talking tiny differences, +- 1 from the chimera is not worth talking about.

Of the two you have I would pick the engineer's andorian (charal). A little more durability at the cost of 1 tac console, IMHO well worth it.

The fleet patrol has 1 less frontal weapon than the andorian and nothing stands out to make me recommend it over the andorian. If you want a gunship, the one with 5 frontals seems better.... if you wanted an all arounder, the chimera is better....

IMHO its hard to beat the fleet chimera. Assuming you got the basic one free, the fleet one costs only 1 module. With the upgrade, you have effectively the movement and guns of a standard escort, flexible officer seating thanks to the uni ltcmdr, the 2 modes, and the consoles are fine for anything except pure science. The andorian will deliver more firepower, if all you really want is raw dps. If the cosmetics matter to you, I can't help there pick the one you love.

    Thanks. :)

I'll definitely need to think about it.

Part of the reason I'm considering moving away from the Chimera is Story-Based Reasons regarding Crew Size - The character in question was originally Tactical Officer on an Aventine (Tac Vesta), and it was rather thoroughly trashed in a massive battle (the same battle where this character's loved one sacrificed themselves - doing so to prevent greater casualties), and there was only a handful of survivors among the ship's 750 Crew (See the Fanfic 'Faces in the Flames' for details - the battle currently starting as of the latest chapter is the battle in question).

The character getting the new ship is taking this into account, and they're wanting to minimize potential casualties among their own crew, and the best way to do that is with a smaller ship with a smaller crew. So, while the Chimera's a pretty good ship, it's got a similar Crew Size to the Aventine/Vesta - and I think that would be too high a chance of potential casualties.

...and I guess the Andorian Escort's the winner in that count, too - only 85 Crew as opposed to the Patrol Escort's 200.

I guess that makes my choice pretty clear, then, especially in combination with what you'd mentioned, so it turns out I don't really need to think about it at all. Thanks!! :D
