PvP revamp suggestion with Reputation system context

Since PvP is going back to the drawing board in the future I was discussing the topic with a friend.
Why not have PvP exist within the in-game story as historical battle simulations?

Here is my idea:

A new PvP Reputation built around historical space and ground battles in Star Trek. This would provide a context for Player versus Player combat for both factions and let players that wouldn’t normally be interested in PvP have something exciting to experience.

In order to level the playing field these scenarios would utilize pre-built ship or ground equipment setups similar to how A Step Between Stars or Temporal Ambassador gives the player control of a ship with locked equipment. These ships would have pre-built Bridge Officer layouts and equipment but would allow the player to use their own Duty Officers. Depending on the size or setting of the battle, players may have the option of selecting a pre-built ship that has a certain slant towards healing, tanking, debuffing, damage, etc. and would allow them to better take advantage of their equipped Duty Officers.

Scenarios would include battles from Deep Space Nine during the Dominion War, or one versus one battles like The Wrath of Khan (USS Enterprise versus USS Reliant) or even a Mirror Invasion scenario where one side is given mirror skinned ships. These scenarios would be available to both KDF and Federation players and would include variations of Capture and Hold, King of the Hill or resource stealing similar to the Storming the Spire STF. Many of the battles in Star Trek can be put into game terms in this manner. Several PvP scenarios would also consist of Team Deathmatch in the case of several large battles from the Dominion War. These PvP scenarios could also utilise existing large battles from Star Trek Online featured episodes or story missions.

As you progress in tier you would gain access to new scenarios with increasing amounts of players and PvP focused buffs, skills and gear.

Possible tier outline:
Tier 1 – 1v1 – 2v2 (up to 4 player scenarios)
Tier 3- 5v5 (up to 10 player scenarios)
Tier 5 - 10v10 (up to 20 player scenarios)
- 2v1, 3v1, etc. (for battles like the one in Star Trek: Nemesis with the USS Enterprise and two Romulan ships versus the Scimitar)

For those players still wanting to PvP without pre-built ships, an Elite PvP option could be created to allow some of these scenarios to be done with player’s own ships and equipment and could provide unique accolades and titles or even ship or player visual customization options.

Some possibilities for PvP scenario options:
- Having the ability to toggle player Away Teams for missions.
- Scaling difficulty of NPC’s that would be participating in the scenarios.
- Allowing the PVP reputation to be available at lower player ranks instead of endgame (max rank).

Please let me know your thoughts on this idea.
Thanks

    Hrm interesting.

I like the idea of using locked gear for "scenarios" you could play out that'd be kinda fun.

However, what kind of rewards would you put into the pvp rep system? What kind of perks etc?
Yes, I'm that Askray@Batbayer in game. Yes, I still play. No, I don't care.

I'd imagine the types of perks for a PvP reputation would include ways to buff friendly NPC's during missions, increase point value for player kills, resource gathering bonuses or reducing the amount of time it take to capture a point in King of the Hill or Capture and Hold scenarios. Perks that relate to PvP specifically would be the best way to go for this I think. :)

I agree with it needing to be more focused perk wise to pvp than anything else. Maybe the ability to earn specific pvp gear? I know that part would probably need some serious coding but it'd be nice to have some :)

PvP gear could consist of hybrid weapons that combine kinetic damage with shield drain or damage resistance debuff and hull damage of time (similar to a plasma weapon). PvP ship or ground gear could also focus on hold resistance and subsystem recovery/protection. Something like this would make the rewards worthwhile but still different than other reputation rewards.
