Re-naming and re-numbering ships...

I always spend a lot of time trying to come up with a good ship name but never cared about the number so much. I'm nowhere near my pc at the moment and have some time to kill so I was wondering what the rules are for customizing your ship's number, if any. Thanks for any replies in advance.

It is like the Outback steakhouse (where there are) no rules, (you) just write.

Player registry numbers must be between 91002 and 999999.

The rule on customizing your ship's registry number is that it still has to be in that fairly high register (90,000-900,000 I think?)

The number of my ferengi marauder is 528468-M, which means LATINU-M on a phone keyboard. I just never had the feeling somebody would understand this:/

That is the most unique method of numbering your ship, well done.

My Odyssey is called the Challenger, after the space shuttle.
The registry is the date the Challenger exploded.
Its shuttles are named after the Challenger crew.

Another toon flies the Eagle, named after the Apollo11 lander.
The registry is the date Apollo 11 landed on the moon.
It has shuttles named after the Apollo 11 astronauts.

I used to have one named the Aquarius, registry the date Apollo 13 was supposed to land.
Its shuttles were the Lovell, Hayes, Swigert, and Krantz.

    See the pattern? lol

Dates are really handy to use as STO registry numbers, almost all of them will fit within the rules. For instance, my main character's ship has always been called the U.S.S. Trafalgar, with a registry of 211005 (21st of October, 1805). I have an alt who is supposed to be a 29th century Captain trapped in the 24th, his ships were all named after Doctor Who actors, with their registries being the date of their first broadcast episode. His current ship is the Wells class U.S.S. Hartnell, registry 231163 (23rd of November, 1963).

My most recent Fed alt was created to play through the revamped low level content, as I intended for her to end up in a Regent/Sovereign class, her ships have all had the names of British ruling dynasties, with the registry number corresponding to the date that the first member of that family took the throne. So far she has had the U.S.S. Plantagenet, U.S.S. Tudor, and U.S.S. Stuart, though as she's currently flying the Ambassador class from Temporal Ambassador, and it interrupted the rest of her time in the Stuart, she currently commands the U.S.S. Cromwell! XD

This character is why I don't play my Romulan any more. Tovan Khev is NOT my BFF! Get him off my bridge!

I always name my ships after real world Royal Navy ships. My current ships are.

HMS Concorde, originally a member of the French Navy, she was captured by England, and pressed into service in the Royal Navy.

HMS Queen Elizabeth, a dreadnought battleship who served in both world wars.

HMS Victorious, an Illustrious Class aircraft carrier, she only served for 2 years before being decommissioned in favour of phasing out naval aviation. Thankfully, this decision was quickly reascended.

However, if you decide to name your ships after a real ship, then you must be VERY cautions about what name you choose for the ship, because it WILL live up to the namesake. For example. I made the mistake of naming a ship HMS Hood, and she kept blowing up (). After that fiasco, I decided from that day on to make sure I only name my ships after ships who were still alive and active until the day they were paid off and decommissioned.
I completed a 2-man CSE, ISE, and KASE, Optionals included. And I soloed Winter Invasion.
My Ship Builds: USS Conqueror, HMS Victorious, HMS Concord, ISS Queen Elizabeth, Black Widow III

I always try to name my ships by a Doctor Who theme, my main cruiser is the U.S.S. Gallifrey and my new sci toons ships are generally named after famous scientists. My new Vesta is the U.S.S. Marie Curie.
Haven't thought about the numberings much. No one but me can see that anyway unless they really fly close to take a specific look at it on the hull.

You guys have some real clever ideas!

My ships have names each of my kids came up with and the registries are their respective birthdays...
